  1. None of the games you mentioned are playable. I couldn't even get Raiden Fighters 2 to work at all. Afaik the xbox mame emus still use the old core and as such rom compatibility is still as was at the beginning. FBAxxx does run EspRaDe and Guwange which mame(d)ox does not, at least in my experience. If you want to take advantage of recent fixes, eg working sound in Batsugun, then you will have to stick to Mame on your PC.
  2. Wow, I don't feel so ugly when I look in the mirror now
  3. I lost interest a few years back when the Dreamcast was still alive. I used to love deep games which I could get lost in eg Settlers, FFxx and basically any Zelda-esque RPG. Past few years I have just been playing in fits and starts, probably why I now almost exclusively play shooters/shmups. A quick burst, a rush, but no long term commitment to levelling-up or dungeon crawling. Perfect!
  4. Call me a fool, but I believe a lot of the reason for the higher post rates a few years back was due to the whole DC (Direct Connect) thing. A lot of people migrated from the 1emu hubs to the forums to post queries, as I did, and some stuck around, even after the plug was pulled on the whole thing. Maybe I'm over-estimating it, but the DC link did provide a pretty big source of new members, and when changes were made it pissed a lot of people off who then left, and also cut off that source of newbies. Sorry, that wasn't particularly helpful but I thought I'd share it all the same. I have noticed a few forums recently lose a lot of posts/members. One thing they all changed which had a positive effect, was to condense sub-forums which has been suggested. Trying to cover too many bases was forcing people to search out more specific sites such as xbox-scene etc
  5. jv16 power tools is v good for file cleanup and registry maintenance, amongst other tools. not fancy, but potent. tune-up utilities is a broader app and easier/safer to use and has a whole multitude of features.
  6. Well, I for one remember the SF2 'wars' when the game eventually got ported to MD. I took great pleasure in poking fun at my friend having to wait about a year and a half for the MD 'Special' Champ Edition
  7. Well I'm in, if only to keep the small number of shmup releases alive. I probably played Radirgy more last year than anything else. The GC/PS2 ports were unremarkable to say the least (esp PS2), while the Dreamcast version was spot on (obviously owing to the whole NAOMI/DC relationship). Not to mention Milestone would probably be dead and buried now if it wasn't for the DC, if they would have even come about at all. I guess it's worth a few clicks.
  8. You can FTP the roms striaght onto the Xbox HDD, but for me it's a hassle. I simply put the roms into a folder on my PC, make an xiso with Quix, and then burn the folder to CD with Alcohol 120 (RAW DAO). Then simply put the CD into the Xbox and copy the roms into the Snes roms folder. Et voila!
  9. 'My crappy little site' ? Up yours, that's very well put together. Good stuff
  10. I've encoded close to 1000 films/tv episodes and tried more or less every app going. By far the best for amatuers and pros alike is TMPEGEnc 2.5 or TMPEGEnc 3.0 Express. Much more powerful and just as easy to use as these newer crappy encoders. Reason it says 17 hours is either the quality settings are too high ie the video bitrate is set to max out the DVD space or ur comp is slow. btw, once you have encoded to mpeg you will need to author it to make it dvd compliant. I only ever use 'TMPEGEnc DVD Author' as it's quick and simple but use whatever suits.
  11. Tested Cassini (giri-giri hack) with numerous games compared to latest versions of satourne/ssf, and cassini came out tops in almost every instance. That was bout a year ago now so satourne/ssf may have advanced somewhat. As for official compatibility I had a list which came distributed with Cassini but... no more
  12. Radiant Silvergun ain't all it's cracked up to be btw tho it is still pretty good imo. I don't remember if giri giri or cassini ran this too well either. I ended up just buying another Saturn off ebay to play this last year and was slightly disappointed. Tbh there's a few better Saturn shmups than this out there eg. Soukyugurentai, Battle Garrega and DoDonPachi.
  13. em.. spectrum - dizzy (any), head over heels, and target : renegade. sms - psycho fox, golden axe warrior snes - super mario world, sf2, and shadowrun. saturn - tomb raider, and nights ( into dreams )
  14. He's right ^^^ It's a waste of money chipping ur xbox. I used hot-swap method ( altho this is somewhat risky ), and I have emus/homebrew etc etc on my 'box.. all for free. It's not soft-modding in the sense that most people think of it, ie mem card exploits etc, it's simply formatting ur xbox to allow emus/homebrew etc. I don't know of the installer disc mentioned but it's all a piece of cake. No modded xbox is necessary, just a PC. Up to you.
  15. Nero 7 is 'out' now! Besides that.. for video encoding/authoring I have always relied on 'TMPGenc Plus' or 'TMPGenc Xpress', both much the same. These will provide u with the DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file. Then u need to author it with 'TMPGEnc DVD Author' in order to have the.vob files to burn to DVD with Nero. Try here, here, or here for help/guides.
  16. Just use DiscJuggler. Virtually fool-proof. Approx 130 burns with only couple failures. Those were likely down to corrupted images anyway. For any non self-boot images u will need a boot disc. Utopia v1.3 I found to be the 'best'. Tho as Agozer said most images have since been made self-booting. Heres all u need to know to burn.cdi images with DJ Settings (Under the Advanced Tab): Mode: Mode 1/DVD Offset: 0 Block: 2048 TOC: CD-DA Check "Add post-gap to 3rd party images" CHANGE NOTHING ELSE Speed: Lowest possible (between 1X and 4X) Any probs. Just ask. Good day.
  17. update - yes it has, been away gettin divorce n stuff due mainly to internet addiction. forced to sell my 3 pcs However i hav now new pc n dsl so i am 'back'. god help us all
  18. not strictly applicable, but my best memories of 1emulation were of the old dc hubs. when they were at ther peak they were hilarious n boring in equal measure. still fun tho.. maggy, jiggs etc etc
  19. Whoa, where've you been man?! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Lol. Getting a divorce sir. Any offers welcome
  20. Try linux then sir. Start here and try a couple out.
  21. Well I got it but haven't played it yet, but IGN gave it an 8.5 and I almost always go with them so. Isn't the upcoming Republic Commando an almost identical style to this? Strange if it is cause this hasn't been out very long.
