Installing games to the HDD is a nice feature of the NXE. As inky said, all new 360s come with a HDMI port anyway, so really the extra $100 buys you 60GB and an HDMI cable. A 60GB drive gives enough space to install 6-7 games, and if that's enough, then I'd pass on the Elite. With the money I saved I bought an MS battery pack and a spare controller.

NBA Hangtime is a Midway game which is known to struggle, along with the likes of Mortal Kombat. The only solution at the minute is to disable sound. Does the 2-player version perform any better? Check out the spreadsheet here for information/issues with games.

I read on X-S that this was possible too. They are very limited anyway. The NXE was all about being able to install the games to HDD for me. It is a better dash overall I guess. Still can't even queue up video files though? Wtf?

The full NXE has been uploaded to various places but it won't have the divx codecs, that is gone forever for you it seems. If you know someone with the NXE installed then you can just remove their HDD and attach it to your 360, then it will prompt you to update. You can set up the avatar too if you want on your friend's 360 then transfer the HDD over. What's the point in the avatars if you can't go on Live anyway? Or more to the point, what's the point of the avatars altogether?

You need the parent roms no matter what or the clones won't run. I haven't really had a proper go at this, will try it out tomorrow.

No such thing as a CD+R. It's likely that the drive doesn't like the media and can't use it properly. Does it do this will all DVDs? Try updating your firmware as these usually include additional media types to improve the scope of your burner. Also, try to stick to DVD-R instead of +R whenever possible.

You can use the same roms indeed. Just to check any roms that you are adding in future, you can use the added dat files to scan them for missing roms, bad names etc, if you know how.

It's just the positives so heavily outweigh the negatives I'm past all the little annoyances now and just enjoying this but... the one thing that does stick with me is that when you beat the game it ends for good. So now I'm sitting at level 17, 16,000 caps, free to roam and do what I want. There's still loads of unique weapons to get, 100+ skill books, 2 or 3 bobbleheads and side quests too. This final mission hangs over me though, like I can do anything at all, except if I do this one last mission then everything I have earned or saved or hoarded is gone, and I can't go back to it

You still have the main attributes like Luck, Strength etc which affect everything, then a load of skills like Barter, Small Guns, Repair. Levelling these skills involves gathering XP from completing main quests or side quests. Once a new level is achieved then skill points may be added to whatever you like with an additional 'Perk' which you can choose from a master list. Which perks you can choose is determined by certain criteria like how high your Intelligence is, or which level you are currently at.

You can download plenty of Mame sets from a variety of places anyway, then just run them through ClrMame with the included CoinOPs dat.

I'm 90% sure that won't work as the DLC is paired with the console that you downloaded it with, so once you swap back to yours and try to play a game with DLC it will try to verify it via Live, which of course won't be possible from your own console. Only my Oblivion DLC would be affected as I originally bought it on my first 360, so it needs a Live link to activate it each time, having said that, Oblivion is 99% of my DLC anyway. Ah well, we both know the risks. I'm tempted to just try mine now to put me out of my misery.

I was going to check with NXE installed but I thought that even attempting to connect before the 19th was an automatic red flag anyway. I'll just wait until after that. I'm not worried anyway as I haven't played online since GTA4 release night, and before that I can't even remember. I will lose access to my old Oblivion DLC which will be a pain

It was rolled back to the beta core because the beta itself was leaked into the wild when it shouldn't have been. The 120MB release is everything, except the roms ie, screenshots at proper aspect ratio, all DATS, etc etc. I upped a 8.32MB version without the screenshots. The full 4GB release was made by whoever, though I don't know where the roms that were included with it came from, or if they need run through ClrMame/Romcenter to be 100% compatible. All the releases comprise the exact same beta CoinOPS core. Changes are constantly being made anyway so even if a 'Final' version were to be released it would probably be outdated by another build in a day or two. Not to mention this new XBMC/CoinOPS integrated project that is going on which may introduce more fixes. Also with BP looking into adding never before seen drivers eg SF1, then it is constantly evolving. IMO BP should be releasing numbered builds so that everyone knows exactly which version they have and which version they need to be able to keep up to date. It's entirely up to him though I say just be grateful for the current build and just wait for another update. It's not like he has buried the project, if anything, with new drivers etc it will be much better than it already is.
