Well if you admin'd a Solaris Server, it probably wasn't run on x86 hardware........though it could have been, it's just most common to see Solaris run on SPARC hardware. If you really want to get your hands dirty....... http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ In general, all of the major Linux distros are "user friendly" now, some are just less so than others. If you're looking for one of the lesser go with Debian or Gentoo, but I would suggest checking through the Distro listing on http://www.linux.org/ to find what you would like based on just how much bullshit you want to have to handle.

1: Theres x86 builds out there, but if you're planning on running Linux......stay away from OSX, think of OSX as the Windows ME of the UNIX world. 2: You will require seperate partitions, I'm not even going to bother getting into running 2 different versions of Windows on 1 partition......it's a stupid idea in the first place. Don't use different physical hard drives, it's not necessary. If you can, keep your OS' on one drive and everything else on another (Depending on the size of disk in question of course) and try to put the swapfile/swapdrive on another disk as it's a faster method than on the drive the OS is on. 3: You should Google this before you even bother getting started, or you're going to get annoyed when multi-booting and something doesn't go exactly as it should. 4: None really, the UNIX environment Linux is derived from IS a developers environment. Just choose suitable packages for what you need that are included with your distro and go from there. There is no "Programmers Choice" Linux distro really unless you're the crazy coder who drinks 10 pots of coffee while staying up till 4am banging your head off your keyboard..........in which case, you wouldn't be asking this question. (And Python isn't a Linux distro Wierdy, it's a programming language........and it's simplistic) Oh and I suggest you don't waste your time with multiple versions of Windows, it's just not worth the bother anymore. If you're keeping that PC you have now, turn it into your classic gaming PC with an older version of Windows on it for stuff that doesn't agree with XP.

Wow, I never knew they had no documentation to go on regarding the FPU. I'm usually pretty good at digging up random docs on wierd hardware, I can tell you now theres NOTHING on the internet regarding the TGP MB86234.

What games do each Bleemcast play?
ken_cinder replied to noey01's topic in DreamCast & Saturn Emulators [/pc/dc+saturn]
You speak of the Bleemcast beta that was ripped. There were something like 4 different discs, and they are only different by the color of the disc. ALL of the discs are identical, period. They were just industry review discs given to the media, and the labels were all sorts of different colors. No one disc plays any games another doesn't, they're 100% identical. -
Urgent Problem, Help Needed
ken_cinder replied to VirtuaKnight's topic in DreamCast & Saturn Emulators [/pc/dc+saturn]
Yes, it functions the same as the hardware in that regard. Self boot images are comprised of two sessions (Not tracks). Either DD or AD sessions. Converting the images you download is pointless, you'll only run into problems. -
Media size is irellevant with regards to the chip you choose, it depends on your wants. Mini media is nothing but aesthetics, normal size media is cheaper and far more plentiful. You should choose a chip based on your needs for making backups, and software useage. Do you want to be able to make your own backups and you have a BBA? All chips are a viable solution here, but the XenoGC isn't your best choice in this case just for ease of use. If no BBA, the Viper Extreme is your only option. If you don't want to be able to make backups, go with anything BUT the Viper. Theres no sense spending the extra money. Homebrew and emulators etc are your thing? The Qoob Pro or Viper Extreme have 16mbit flash where you can store these rather than burning a DVD for everything all the time. If you don't care about anything but playing backups and none of the rest apply, get a XenoGC or Qoob SX. The XenoGC is probably cheaper than the SX (I'm not sure of pricing at this point, I bought my Qoob Pro quite awhile ago), but the XenoGC isn't simple to load homebrew and not all works with it.........so unless you ONLY want to play backups go with an SX.

Here here, I have a 400w PSU......on my like 6 year old P4. 350w isn't enough for all those drives and a video card that consumes extra power of it's own. Your CPU on an average load NOT overclocked eats 85+ watts of it's own. I'd advise you to upgrade to a 500w PSU.

While your drag costumes are cute, you obviously didn't read the title of the thread. "The HOT Chicks Thread!

Well, this was no surprise. The long since dead (to end users) Phantom console has now been officially declared dead on the hardware front, instead it's going to be a PC software app....... Read more on this elusive flop here

good point, race doesn't matter to me and asian girls are quite nice, I see quite a bit of them round Birmingham as Cinder said before... Less talking and More Pics. I believe that was Less talk, more T&A!!. And there's nothing wrong with Asian chicks, I just don't like ugly ones, pre-teen looking ones or starving looking ones.

Personally I'd stay away from the earlier FX cards, for several reasons (See TES IV Oblivion, pixel shader implementation is lacking on those cards in hardware). And I'd definitely go with an AGP card if you can, not a PCI card. If you're looking for a card around $80, I'd suggest for an ATi card this one or for an NvIdia card this one. Personally I'd go with the ATi card, as from a non-loyalty (I'm very partial to ATi) standpoint, that x1300 is considerably more powerful than the 6600.
-
They're all correct, and those cards will NOT run FEAR for you. I can barely get away with it on my Radeon 8500, so you'd better get something like a 9550 at the least.

Well I'm married, so I'll sum it up like this: Love is 90% of the time looking over at the person and thinking "I want to spend the rest of my life with him/her" and 10% spent thinking "How can I fake my own death?"

and i thought my WRT54GS was cool...
ken_cinder replied to Shibathedog's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
You could build a PC and run a Linux fileserver/router for much cheaper. Neat toy, but a huge waste of money if you're capable of doing what I just said (Anyone is, provided you aren't too stubborn to learn) -
Keep posting pics like that, and the thread will commit suicide of it's own volition. You can do better than that! Those girls are all wierd looking with no bodies to em.

Why is the music of today so horrible?
ken_cinder replied to Alpha's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
Just in answering the question of your topic...... Because record labels will give anyone a contract regardless of talent. If they think the person/group can pull off at least a 1-hit-wonder and give off an attracting image, they'll grab it and run. Why do you think we see many bands with a great song, and then you hear the rest of their album and it REALLY REALLY sucks? -
JNES For PSP emulator Problem!
ken_cinder replied to topramon's topic in NES & SNES Emulators [/pc/nes+snes]
Stop posting in threads that are long dead. -
Got a Gamebit? Open it up and get a look at things functioning from the inside. I bet you can fix it yourself if you've got a clean look at it and some imagination. What have you got to lose? It's not working as-is and you didn't pay for it right?

I don't want to see pictures of you with sheep. So no......

I'd pretty much suggest getting rid of that motherboard if you're gonna upgrade. Socket 754 is long gone, and you'll be stuck with probably not much higher than you already have. AGP has gone the way of the dinosaur, and AGP variants of video cards actually cost MORE than PCI-Express cards (Which btw are better for obvious reasons of bandwidth.....etc) Forget "upgrading", it would be a serious waste of your money to upgrade with what you're sitting with. It'd be like me putting a 2Ghz Socket 423 CPU in this motherboard, and buying the best AGP version card out there. I could do better......for less money.

multi-track first session burns?!
ken_cinder replied to nerdocalypse's topic in DreamCast & Saturn Emulators [/pc/dc+saturn]
You're doing something wrong then, because those are simply selfbooting images with CDDA audio. Try mounting the image with Daemon Tools, and doing a "Disc Copy" from the virtual drive the image is in. That's how I burn all my stuff, Dreamcast or not. -
