  1. so... can any video player for DC handle subtitles?
  2. yep, there's an ip.bin, and a bunch of folders named after planets - i'm guessing those are the names of the levels? - and there are even some music tracks, but the sound in them is really weird. the same files and folders appear from several different image sources. aye, 80 games and still without the one I want the most... [spiralling camera shot from above:] REEEZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!
  3. yeah it took me a while to figure out those split files, too... why do so many games still come in that format? its been years since people traded DC games through newsgroups, hasn't it?
  4. burning mounted images with a120 does not work, i dont know why. but i am also curious as to why copying a mounted image should work better than straight-up burning? the problem isnt about selfbooting; i tried using first a dc-x, to see if it was a region issue, then a utopia cd, and neither would load the game("the game" being about 10 different coaster-copies of Rez, burned with different programs-a120, cdrecord, nero-, on different burners, from different images- mdf nrg or cdi- with different methods- speeds, RAW DAO/TAO, using sim burns...). the files do appear in explorer, so i know the burn was successful. i dont mean to shoot down your solutions, but ... any other possible ways to fix this?
  5. I've had no luck burning most images that have more than one track in the first session - just like the description you gave us. (the exception is if those tracks were unpacked and injected cdda audio files). mds/mdf usually will burn a selfbooting game in A120%, there's no need to convert it to nonbooting bin+cue. but what you will probably need to do is find a different image of the game that has the usual 2-track, 2-session, first session as 600~kb audio, 2nd session 600~mb data, format. thats just my experience, tho - I'd be glad to hear from someone else if there is a ***reliable*** way to burn that sort of multitracked image. sorry that i couldnt offer a better solution. good luck
  6. they are mostly .cdi, some mdf/mds, a couple are .ccd, and the odd .nrg i should update this by saying that one game, unreal tournament, which had 19 "injected" (via an unpack.exe + inject.exe) tracks in session 1 burned fine. and also under defeat, which i think had 2 1st session tracks, also burned. but the rule still generally applies.
  7. okay this is really weird... i guess i should have listened more closely to you guys! my first dreamcast (the one i said would not play any burned games) --- well, now it plays ALL the games that i burned for my 'replacement' DC... wtf? I don't get it, but for anyone's future reference, it seems that any ISO can be played on the model 2 dreamcasts if burned with a120% at up to 24X using RAW DAO. So don't make the mistake I made and waste money on a 2nd dreamcast (although having a DC in two rooms IS pretty cool...\) and just burn games properly! I apologize if I misled anyone before, I swear that not a single game worked... still a mystery to me...
  8. some ISOs have more than one track per session, and these will not burn regularly. is there something special i have to do before burning them or what? an example is the guilty gear ISO, which has about 12 audio tracks on its first session, then the data is one track in session 2. another is REZ, with just 2 audio tracks in session 1 -- no dice. any game with only one track per session burns fine (A120% @ up to 24X, RAW DAO), but without REZ, my life just is not complete. help me guys. ------------------ screw online petitions, send real mail directly to Sega and others!
  9. but its true, the dcs from october 2000 onwards will not even play music cdrs. testing a music cdr with no success was the last straw for me. maybe some of those exceptionally complicated techniqques like the one i posted above (where you have to screw around with the image files through 5 different programs!) would work, but i can honestly say that i dont recommend even trying it, as i spent and wasted a lot of time. it would have been less costly had i decided right after seeing that circled 2 on the system to just buy an earlier console. now that i have, i can finally enjoy the vcd playing, emulating, backuping goodness of a DC.
  10. thanks for your advice, all since i tried everything, i decided to just get a version 1 dreamcast (no. 1 n the circle on the bottom label). i know some people think that all dcs will work with backups, but i dont think so. the version 2's, like the one i was using, will not work. i'm sure the above techniques will work without a hitch on the ver1 DC.
  11. hey everyone, thank you for your help, i've gotten more help here than any other forum. and i'm sorry to seem like a never ending stream of questions, but... i'm trying to use alcohol 120. when i turn it on i get an error message, but the program still opens. so i go to image burning wizard and select one of my cdi's. but then the info that appears says that it will be only one track, and also that cdi is not a compatible format or something.. but i thought alcohol could do cdi's fine? this is version 1.9.5, fyi. as for discjuggler, i was only able to get a really old version, like 2.0, and it doesnt seem to have the features to burn an image. it just didnt work. i tried mounting the image to a virtual drive with daemon tools, then tried both nero 6 and bootdreams' cdrecord to burn. these are some of the attempts i've made:: Rez: 1.bootdreams >> nero > DAO mode....burn successful... will not play. 2.bin+cue files >>mounted using daemon >> used nero 6 > copy cd...burned fine... does not work. dOA 2 LE: 1.used nero...burned... will not play. 2.mounted with daemon tools >> used bootdreams>> data/data. scrambled the 1st_read when prompted to. created an ip when prompted to...burned it... doesnt work. mr driller : 1. bootdreams > cdi record. no altered settings. burned just the cdi file(chose the cdi of mr driller when asked what would be the "main binary")...burned... will not play. (i also tried using a real disc of DC-X before the copy for each) in every case, if i put the burned cd into my pc, the proper files do appear. i wish i could test them out with chankast but my pc is nowhere near good enough. as you can see, i've tried a variety of programs and methods, nothing has worked. what else could i try? what in the above methods is flawed? I'm going to keep trying so any recommendations will be welcome.
  12. bump/ i would just like to know if this person ever solved their problem, as I am now trying to work through it.
  13. thats pretty informative in fact, thanks noooow i see what daemon tools / mounting could be for. and knowing that backups are multiregion compatible will probably save me some worries.. once i get started, that is! and now i see that 2 sessions = self-boot, which explains why ppl say that those bin images are not selfboot. thanks for the info, i'll try again to tackle this
  14. hmmm i dunno... i've tried seemingly everything now, nero with TAO, nero with DAO, bootdreams cdi record, bootdreams discjuggler image record... nothing works. not DOA, power stone 2, rez(and that kills me cuz i cant wait to play it), utopia, mr driller, daytona... nothing. the only prog i havent tried yet is alcohol, and as i said, i am unable to use it since the setup requires windows installer, which isnt working for me at all. in any case, i dont see how alcohol could be so different that it would work where so many similar progs have failed.. but i do hope that i can somehow install it and that it''ll work. any other help/advice at this stage would be highly appreciated, since I'm on the verge of giving up, believing in the rumour of some non-bootable DCs, and buying another, earlier one. oh, I noticed 2 things that may be important: some burns only resulted in a single-track cd; one had as many as 6! isnt the correct number supposed to be 2? and: when using bootdreams to burn, at one point a popup asked me which file is the main binary. i didnt know what to choose here. what is it, the image or a 1st_read or something?
  15. well it sounds pretty clear that alcohol or discjuggler are really mandatory! could someone send /post the actual program file for either of those? the reason being that my 80-dollar used computer wont let me install anything using Windows Installer, and both of those use it when i download the setup.exe from their websites. andrewto@uvic.ca thank you
