Captain FuKu Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Guilty Gear XX/#Reload Superb in every category.GGXX#Reload -Correction: Its an update to a game I dispise dearly. The only thing that was fixed was the balanced issues from GGXX. I used to be a GGXX fanboy, now I just hope something will come along to rekindle the lost soul of mine to play the it ever again. Superb in most catacgories. Backgrounds are medicoreAlthough most of the character designs are excellent, Justice, Ky, Kliff seem like "I've Been Done" before.Half of the music is repeative and annoying. I'm all up for guitar solos, but christ, IN MOST OF THE SONGS.Not a big graphical and system update from GGX/X+. No, you misunderstand. When I wrote "Guilty Gear XX/#Reload" notice the slash ( /) ? Well, this means either Guilty Gear XX or Guilty Gear #Reload -- take your pick; I happen to like both. I agree with your comments about the background. Some could be improved upon -- especially the ones with people in them. Music is repetitive, but what isn't if you listen to something repeatedly? IMO, the music is the best in any of the fighting games thus far, considering such failures like MvC2. Who the hell puts Jazz in a fighting game, and much less, with vocals? Graphics: I don't think I need to say anything much here. But most importantly, what gives me the most enjoyment about this game is its gameplay and the experiences I get from facing human competition; people who are equally into learning the ins and outs of the game engine and playing in competitions/tournaments. After all, this is a *fighting game*. Fighting games are for competition, and the ultimate category it will be judged upon is the game engine and competition. I don't know if I'd consider myself a fanboy -- though, I'm not saying you accused me of being one, but just in case I come off as such. "Fanboys" tend to be fixated on graphics and storyline...that's pretty much it. When it comes to the meat of fighting games: actually playing the game against human competition, they pretty much steer away.
kaioshade Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 I like Virtua Fighter 4 as well as 3d games. My only problem with the majority of 3d games is for some reason i cant see myself getting better with them. I play guilty gear and practice. i see myself getting better through play against the computer and other human players. Something like vf or sc and i practice the same amount of tie and i see no improvement. every 3d game to me has severe balance issues. aside from capcom vs snk 2 (which i despise greatly) most 2d games i play ahve fairly good balance. And third strike is Perfection.
Wizard Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 My comment applies to both games. Anyways, as both Chipp and Milla minorly tweaked in #Reload, I can still rip open some new hate with them.
Captain FuKu Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 My comment applies to both games. Anyways, as both Chipp and Milla minorly tweaked in #Reload, I can still rip open some new hate with them.Yeah they've got some minor tweaks, but Millia was still top tier even in XX. Chipp is fun, but I'd stick to Millia. The payoff would probably be better with her than Chipp. On a different note, I'm waiting for the PS2 release of SF3:TS since I don't have a DC. Also, my arcade got rid of it, and some of the players are trying to have them get it back. Yeah, Third Strike: another favorite of mine.
Wizard Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 My dream is for CAPCOM to friking bring back Ibuki to Top tier status. I like ninja girls. Although she isn't top tier anymore, I can still do an avarage amount of damage with her by being quick about it.
ForceX Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 GGXX is the worst fighting game IMHO...I hate it...now to the issue at hand...VF4 has got the best fighting mechanics of any fighting game and has set a new benchmark for future fighting games... Sega had outdone themselves by creating VF4, VF4 Evo & the upcoming VF4 Final Tuned...
Wizard Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 (edited) Sega is pulling a Capcom with VF4. Although it is highly sold in the markets. It's SF3 all over again. Edited April 19, 2004 by K`dash
Fatal Rose Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 Sega is pulling a Capcom with VF4. Although it is highly sold in the markets. It's SF2 all over again. But the upgrades are more significant than SF2 upgrades. If you played vf4 than play vf 4 evo you would understand.
ForceX Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Well the improvements in SF3 were minor ones...however, Sega is adding alot to VF4, which makes the purchase worth it, especially since they are releasing the new reversions of it at a much cheaper price in the US....
Riot.EXE Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Well...I picked up VF4: Evolution as soon as I saw it...the best thing I can say about it, is playing alone doesn't get dull like in pretty much ALL fighters (that don't have survival mode)...Quest mode alone practically trains you for arcade playing...no other fighter I know of does that...you fight all kinds of different styles in there...it just truly prepares you for humans...and it was consistent in updating graphics...very nice...and The music isn't all that bad, I perfer the Event Square tracks myself... ...on the flipside...In terms of stages...its a step backwards from VF3 (the only other VF, aside from VF Kids, I never played)...I recall the stages in 3 to have more life to them, and weren't just caged in squares...also...VF never really had that much of a story to follow (all I know is Lau is Pai's dad, and Sarah is Jacky's sister)...and no story = dull...and I don't know about you all...but Kage has got to be the most boring ninja ever...I didn't think that was even possible...and there's that one other problem...despite the depth it actually has, VF was always a bit too button masher friendly...only 3d game that wasn't really BMF was Tekken...but thats a whole 'nother story... ...well...there's my contribution to this post...
Cominus Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Quest mode alone practically trains you for arcade playing...no other fighter I know of does that...you fight all kinds of different styles in there...What does that mean? WT Flock was that thing in SC then? Doesnt that train you for something? Is fighting with a staff and fighting with a sword the same style? At least in SC2 you weren't air juggled, well not forever anyways(ring outs).
ForceX Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 (edited) Cominus if your uncle can kick your ass at VF4 then that means you have not practised enough.... Please don't critize a masterpiece just because you will not take the time to play it correctly... Also, SC = Fantasy, whereas VF4 is based on real life martial arts, which require practise and skills and precise timing...just like in VF4 Edited April 19, 2004 by ForceX

I remember just pressing punch in Tekken all the time and pulling off like a 10 hit combo...now if you don't call that a button masher then there is something wrong with you....I tried that exact same stunt with VF4 and could only pull off a 2 hit combo.... Please guys actually play VF4 using some of the harder characters such as Akira and then post back here about wether you still think its a button masher Edited April 19, 2004 by ForceX

Let's see; (Note, each game is from the "Arcade" or "Single Player" side from the console version) SF3; New Generations - Great gameplay mechanics. Certain Unblance issues. Frist release. Double Impact - Gouki, Hugo and Urien added, Yun and Yang are now seperate characters. Character balance issues from New Generations fixed. New levels and music. Gill A.I. increased. Gouki/Shin Gouki hidden boss added. Second release. Thrid Strike - Chun-Li, Remy, Makato, Q, and Twleve added. New levels. Several (yes, several) characters minorly/severaly toned down or changed completely. New stages and music. Gill and enemy A.I. increased. Q hidden mid-boss added. Replay ablitity added to change options. New endings for some. Now, VF4; Virtual Fighter 4 - Version 1.0, 2 new characters added to the series, gameplay and engine is superb from a technical view, minor balance issues. VF4: Evolution - Brad and Gou added, more replayablity added. Minor fixes, added stages. Minor imbalance issues. Added/removed moves for some characters. VF4: Final Tuned - Fixed imbalanced issues from both V1 and V2(Evo). More stages, more replay ablity. Added/Removed moves for some characters.
