  1. Win98 almost never uses more than 256 Megs. Had some guy who got a new comp with 2x256 MB sticks. Installing WinXP failed, while installing Win98 worked and he never experienced problems while using Win98. Later we found out the 2nd stick was bogus, now hes on XP too, but it was interesting to see Win98 doesnt address anything above 256 MB obvisiously. So 256MB for Win95/98 is enuff
  2. Looks like the console business is putting itself to dead. If developing games on PS3 is that expensive, the games will be much more expensive too. As this is a heavy argument when considering to buy a console, i dont think Sony did the right thing here. We had it once, that a console was ahead of its time, and it didnt reach much popularity. And even more realistic graphics in the nextgen shooters is not something worth working on. The console business must find its roots again and develop fun and innovative game concepts rather than new game clones. EDIT: UF says it nice: http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20051016
  3. But emulation of the Saturn isnt advanced much is it ? I dont believe there are a lot of games playable, if any. Plus you need a quite powerfull PC, so before you consider upgrading, consider the real thing again. Its cheaper
  4. I have a Asus 6600 GT PCI-e in my Athlon64 3200+ and it runs everything just fine, from FarCry over Doom3 to HL2. From his question about the fx5200 i guess hes a little short on money (like all of us). I can rec the 6600GT it gives you the most fps for your buck (or Euro)
  5. My point. It should be fun for the "advanced" emugamer to come here, and for the team to add content. Building a community is the key. And additional value. While the community will grow due to the people the additional content will draw here. Emulation as a site topic has the downside, that the only news are about emulator updates. No more games coming up you could cover, no more rumors. The key question is, what makes emulation our hobby ? Is it the emulators themselves or is it the games ? If its the emulators, cover them in endless news on the mainpage, if its the games, push the news into some sidemodule, and focus on the games. Im sure it will be more fun to add long-lasting content to the site than news that are due in a week or two. 1emu has a lot more potential than my former site, due to the team working on it. I was on my own, while here a team has formed that is interested in emulation in the long term, not just a few people who try it out some months and then move on. Im justing making suggestions, its your site and you people should decide which direction to take now as you found the site being "unpleasant". But you should do your best to make working on the site fun for you and not depressing. People will note the difference soon.
  6. Yeah Agozer, this is an Emu site, but people dont only talk about emulation. See, its not people waste their entire day with solving emulator problems. If so, this forum would be much more active. But usually, after having stuff set up, people actually play and dont ask about emu stuff any longer. Even the forum topics suggest its only about emulation. Why name it "DreamCast Emulation Section" ? Name it "DreamCast Section". And then we can talk about homebrewing software, coding, MOD Chip insertion and other stuff in there. So if i have finally set up my emus and all works fine, what can this site do for me ? There is not much actually. I think that was the main prob of my own site too. (Besides a misleading name...) We claim people come and go and there is no community here. Thats why. People come here, learn how to get started, and then leave for different reasons. One may be that there is not much on the general emu site that keeps people coming back once they learned the basics. Its for me this way, and i guess a lot of the oldbies agree with me here. Once you know about it, you dont want to see the 500th "Where do i get game xyz?" Question on the forums. And thats what most emusites are about. How can a forum be of help, if the oldbies leave for boredom ? Maybe changing from an EMUgaming site to an emuGAMING site will help. I saw "guess the game by screenshot", "guess the game music", highscore and timechasing contests on other sites. Set up a game help forum like gamefaqs. Provide savegames. Provide cheats. Add some additional value to 1emu besides 30 minute news. Invest your precious time into additional value, and leave the news stuff to those sites known for it. (I'd bet most of you go to ngemu to grab news). Doesnt make much sense either IMHO to post news about every 0.02 version of some unknown emu out there. I believe then this site will prosper. Speaking of the site, also consider wether the IRC stuff will draw people off the site, and quickly ask on IRC rather then posting ? Maybe easier for them, but it doesnt add to the boards activity. Even oldbie members here said they go straight to the forums, see there is nothing new, and then leave. Merge some forums to have a better overview on the site, dont slash the noob with dozend forums. See, the news are not what we emu-oldbies are interested in. We know how stuff works, where to get the games and play em. The n00bs coming here got no clue, what the heck Gens, Mame or VBA mean. (VBA is a coding language too) If you want an active community, you must serve the emu-oldbies needs. Otherwise this site will (stay?) and newbie-rush-through site. Dont get me wrong, i biatch and moan cause i think you people here are emu addicted, and that this site maybe one of the few, that have potential, as long as you dont go the way of the common emusites. This is the only emusite i visit regulary, though i didnt post much last year, but i would hate to see this site suffer. (Check my member no.) Consider what GameCop said (slightly altered to make my point): Why ? I think hes frustrated about all his work not growing fruits. Just like i was before giving up maybe one of the best emu related domain names ever. Try something new. Make a difference. Be different. Stand out of the crowd. K, edited this post a dozend times now, i think im done
  7. oh cool, i was looking for such thing a while
  8. http://www.drool.de/ru.jpg You should remember it I used IPB there too plus some custom coding on the frontpage, since i let the domain expire, the design is vacant and you can use it if you like. I should have the files on my LinuxBox, if you are interested i will check the stuff The images in the tables rotate randomly upon reload. that's exactly what I do <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The forum is a bit too focused on emulation, not much else too discuss here. Maybe add some more chitchat forums and sort other inactive forums into one bigger, i.e. merge the inactive forums into a bigger, then more active one.
  9. Well i dont like em either, but its no more or less than the same repetive monster slashing than in most RPGs.
  10. I know, but that's still not 1.43 to my knowledge. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah not officially, its the WIP to 1.43 or later to be precise, at least some sites refer it so. But i say we cut this topic now, as its OT in this thread kthx So back on topic: GameCop, if you like and dont have started (or plans) otherwise, you can make use of my old sitedesign on 1emu if you like, i still have the files around and no use for them. Just an offer. Or did i get something wrong about next version ? *hides*
  11. I personally dont see much advantages in daily news. It doesnt matter much wether i use ZSNES 1.41 or 1.43, most games work anyway. If you want a growing site, you should try to automate the news stuff. Talk to the emu authors wether they can provide the scene with some RSS feed you can grab and parse serverwise. Or parse their websites and grab the latest news posted there. Instead of hunting news, use the safed time and keep the forum active and work on the community and increase useabilty.
  12. Well, this is an rather old topic, but i think it might be of interest, that i got a file called "Bad-to-Good_N64_ROMs_Patches.exe" of a common p2p programm, that holds 668 IPS patches to make BAD n64 roms GOOD ones. Maybe not PJ64 patches, but ROM patches that may make some work malfunctioning before
  13. Well i have an Athlon64 3200+ Venice core here. 1 Gig of Samsung UCC RAM, both run fine at 2200 (CPU) resp. 220 (RAM) MHz. Sitting on an Abit Fatal1ty AN8 (Nforce 4 Ultra) and running off an WD740 GD with 10.000 rpm, fastest SATA2 drive known today. I view things via my Asus N6600GT with 128 MB. I got it like 3 months ago, all components handpicked, and im pretty pleased with it. But if thats the stuff needed to run Vista, there will be not much ressources left for games and/or apps. XP runs stable finally, compared to 98 and the like, and thats all i ever wanted. I see no step ahead in Vista, besides i have a new search function, which a) is for free on XP now with google desktop and isnt needed really if you keep your stuff somewhat sorted. Furthermore i expect a lot of issues with the games i play on Vista, just like some games that worked fine on 98 dont run with XP anymore. If you like an optical appealing system, you should take a look at Vista, i rather have a system reacting promtply without optical ressourcewasting crap. Call me a performance whore, but i cant stand it to have useless icons showing next to my clock either.
  14. Make sure both are in the same workgroup. Both should run same Windows version. 98 has probs with XP, but XP can 'do' 98. Both on XP Pro would be best. In system settings point to Network, choose properties, then TCP/IP-Properties. Make one 192.168.0.1 and one 192.168.0.2. Reboot. Browse network neighbourhood by right clicking it, choosing explorer, then search for the other comp. If it shows up, you did it. Maybe make sure some drives are accessible networkwise.
  15. hmm has been a while since i fooled around with ipb portal. For the iframe part you need to edit the sourcecode, same goes for addons and stuff, you will get step by step instructions on how to alter the sourcecode and in which file.
  16. Yeah it looks like some people have way too much money. I think thats beyond the line of rational thinking. I collect a little bit myself, but i only buy the games i like and (at least, plan to) play one day. Never would pay for a japanese game just to get my collection filled or invest in these NHL NFL and other crappy sportsgames for console. Then again there was no rational reason for me to buy that SNES on fleamarket today, as i have all the ROMs, but its not quite the same. btw N64 next
  17. Even my massage seating in my game room cant beat this... http://schwillz.com/ccdebt/index.html *cries*
  18. If you read the hardware requirements of that Vista thingy, my new comp (8 weeks old) is just enough to run that Windows. I doubt it will be a success shortly. Everyone on XP turned that colorstuff off quickly when they used earlier versions before, so besides more colors and some new search functions, i doubt it will have anything really new. I for my part will stay with XP as long as its possible. It works and runs fine on my machine now.
  19. k, got me there. wipe this topic
  20. If your ISP says they dont use a proxy, try to set the autodetection setting to off.
  21. pwnz also note the NeoDouble
  22. Burn at slower speed. May solve unreadable discs probs in your PSX. Something generel fyi: an.ISO is like a picture taken from the entire disk in file-format. When you burn it and open it in explorer, you should see some stuff on the disk. If you burned a DATA CD and dragged and dropped the image on it, and you see filename.iso on your disc in windows xplorer, it wont work in your PSX. I know some people have probs getting the difference.
