  1. Yeah Agozer, I do take games too seriously, but that's because I am a game designer. I am halfway though my game design course and have been designing them for nearly 8 years. So I haven't played them just for fun since I was 14. And also, I'm not saying the game is crap because it was hyped up, I'm saying game journalists can't see any flaws because they wish it was as good as the trailers they saw before the release. Did the review sound as if I was just grasping at straws to slate it or did it sound like I actually thought it was a mediocre product?
  2. Hey darkmage479, Putting aside the fact that it is a silly and random accusation - I'm not some Internet gimp who 'griped' about Snake's mullet (Snake and the rest of the characters are one of the only good elements) and my review is not some sort of backlash. Did the review sound like it was written by an immature Internet obsessed freak who’s kidding themselves that they’re going to get into game journalism if they continue to spew out trash disguised as reviews? This was a serious paper written by a game design student for a college thesis. It should have been more in-depth and scathing than it was so think yourself lucky. ‘Excellent Graphics’? (Which I pointed out in the review) ‘Play control’? If these are your rationalizations for why a poor game was lauded with endless praise then you ought to apply for a hack’s job at some kiddie magazine such as EGM. As for not "understanding" it, there is nothing to understand, other than the fact that the script and plot is penned by someone who obviously thinks they're some kind of genius but in actual fact have nothing to say whatsoever. The plot changes direction like some puerile junior high short story. I'm surprised the characters don't wake up at the end and discover that "it was all just a dream".... Am I trying understand something that hasn't even got a hidden meaning? Kojima says it is about passing on material things to future generations, not just what you pass on through your genes. What's not to understand, when all it does is shove it in your face word-for-word about five times at the end of the game. When all previous events had NOTHING to do with this at all. Especially when it was an exact remake of Metal Gear Solid 1. No film would ever have a supposed message put in as blatantly as that. Kojima just wanted a message in it because "movies have them", but has no idea how to incorporate it whatsoever, so he just makes the lead character pound a pretend message into your head in the closing 5 minutes. I don't care if there is a market for Scary Movie 1-3, Kojima would be laughed out of Hollywood with this script, guaranteed. And as a game it's just as dismal. This game should be the poster boy for poor design and implementation and could be single-handedly used to display every video game design error that has ever been committed. The only justification for how atrociously done it all is, would be if it was purposely made to make a complete mockery of design principles. I guess that’s the real hidden meaning. I personally find it ridiculously easy to find fault with all of Kojima-san’s products. He has pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes with his high-production values, and masses of hype. He has been masquerading as someone who understands the first thing about games, hiding that deficiency behind his silly comments about being “70 percent movies” and yet showing himself to be completely fraudulent in that area too. Oh, and needless repetition is not humorous. How the heck do you work that one out?
  3. Thanks for the compliments dude It would be intersting to see what Metal Gear Solid fans think to my review. Please post your opinions and views. EDIT: Just wondered, Gryphon, did you read the original review (on my website) or read it straight from the forum post. Thanks
  4. MGS2 is a despicable game. Controls: 6 Gameplay: 3 Graphics: 8 Sound: 9 Overall Score: 6 Grade: D Overall I give this game a
  5. Jump Kick, Crouch Kick. It's not cheesey! Not only is it very easy to guard, it doesnt do much damage. If you land a deep enough jump kick, do a crouching medium kick, 2in1 special, super cancel. That's damaging!
  6. Something I loved about Tekken 4 is how they almost completely removed the "clone" characters. Only one Jack character (Kuma), only one Kazuya etc. Tekken 3 started this but it wasn't done as well as in this iteration. The only bad choice was Lee he only serves story purposes and is too similar to Law. Tekken 5 has gone back to more is better and is using the tacky choice of having about 500 characters and re-using move sets. This is garbage. I mean, who the hell would choose Wang over Michelle or Ganryu over Jack-2.
  7. Haha, the screenshots look pretty good. no enemies in there yet, and it probably can't handle about 20 imps at once. But imagine the whole Doom done like this...wow
  8. I didnt like Doom 3 at all. A big let down. I would prefered the game to have worse graphics to allow for multiple enemies on screen at once like the original Doom. Multiple enemies was the whole point of Doom, and id just turned it into a generic FPS but with a scary atmosphere. Far too repetitive and un-fun for me. EDIT: I decided to have a quick go when my brother went out one day, and all I managed to do was listen to 5000 audio logs to try and get into an armoury or something. Why can't they just list all the key codes once you have listened to the complete drivel the pretend employees have spouted? Complete waste of time. Sorry about that, just frustrated by them...
  9. nah, he used to use steroids when he was ripped. Now he's eating too much. He is mega fat.
  10. Anyone else think that Triple H is a fatty? He's done a Vic Viper and ate too many cupcakes.
  11. Crisis Zone [PS2] Out Run 2 [Xbox] Dead or Alive Ultimate [Xbox] or Tekken 5 [PS2]
  12. I prefer PC, but only because I can get every arcade game in mame and every console game thru other emulators. If you are talking PC games versus console, then consoles. Because Japanese developers are much better. Theres no Sega, Nintendo, Capcom, Tecmo, Namco etc etc on PCs.
  13. How old was the game? All I can think of is Arch Rivals by Midway. Other basketball arcades are Hard Dunk, Punk Shot, Double Dribble and Street Slam/Hoop.
  14. Do you mean Save State? Anyway, it's just a problem with mame, I advise creating a mame you want everything in, and just use a different mame for newer games. I currently use 0.78 for every game and later versions for new games. I have about 4 versions altogether.
  15. Thanks. I found the little bug*er. It's called "Start Navigation". I could have sworn I'd been through them all before to see if that was in there about four times. oh well, thanks again.
  16. Thanks but I always use that. (My 'critical stop' sound is "f you f ball" as said by Harvey Keitel at the end of Get Shorty) Anyway, that particular sound isn't in there that's why I need another way to get rid of just that one son of a gun. Any other ideas?
  17. Can somebody please tell me how to get rid of the sound that keeps coming on every time you open a folder or click something on the Internet? I'm SICK of it scatting and be-bopping all over my tunes forcing me to turn the volume down... Please tell me which file is responsible for this frustrating annoyance so I can delete/rename the swine. Or is it not that easy? I'm on Windows XP Home. Thank You.
  18. Thanks a lot Agozer! It works. Now I'll just get Gradius V and I'll have the full collection!
  19. Can anyone offer any help to get a CD image working on ePSXe please? The game is 'Gradius Gaiden'. It's a very rare game and as a big Gradius fan I am quite desperate to play it. I have it in ".mdf" file format but when I open it with the "runISO" option I just get a black screen. I can run all my own PS games from my PC's CD tray but I've never ripped any of them to make an ISO myself. I have also run WEleague.bin (downloaded for play on Kaillera) before without any problems. "Gradius HomeWorld" (a fan site) says this game tested perfectly on ePSXe. Could I have the wrong driver settings or something? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  20. Bloodblaze sounds like the saddest man in history. What a joke He has the most worthless opinions I've ever had the misfortune to read, what terrible arguments. Tekken 4 is a better overall game than Tekken 3 for reasons tournament obsessed freaks would never understand. The fact that you play it in tournaments means jack sh!t. In the grand scheme of things Tekken 4 was an improvement and I sincerely believe Tekken 5 will be a downgrade. Going back to an outmoded style in an attempt to pander to the morons like 'bloodblaze' can only be a bad thing. Get playing the tripe Tekken Tag and Shut It.
  21. I completely disgree with your review of Tekken 4. I am a hardcore Tekken fan and I see Tekken 4 as a mega improvement over the others. I absolutely love it and can now compare it against the best 3D fighting game series - Virtua Fighter. Seems a bit daft giving the game a thumbs down when you gave it a better than average score of 7/10. Stupid magazine reviewers seem to think that 70% means it's average, you seem to think it means it's bad and people who know better think 7/10 means it's better than average. If you dislike it as much as you say, you should give it about 4/10 (less than average) - Anyway I love this sequel and class it as my 2nd favourite 3d fighter ever, just behind the wonderful VF3. Changing the subject from your review now: At least you weren't daft enough to hate the removal of Jin's moveset. The way I see it, if you loved Jin's moves - choose Kazuya (he was originally the main character). and if you love Jin's personality or look - choose Jin. Also, some people say Christie is a waste of a new character and should have a new moveslist. I say that Namco are the exact opposite of lazy by completely redesigning the character instead of just shoving Eddy back in. If you all remember, Namco originally wanted a female Capoeira fighter for Tekken 3, but hardware limitations wouldn't allow for it. Anyway, Just wanted to say that you were criticising the game just because you prefer how Tekken used to be, some people do love part 4 even more than the other 3.
  22. I absolutely loved part 4 and I now include a Tekken game in my top 20 games of all time! It was quite a large alteration to the Tekken series (the biggest so far) and I loved every part of it more than any previous Tekken. I've heard that Tekken 5 is going back to flat floors but with walls (just like VF4 did) and find this terrible news. The developers of both games say that it helps players concentrate only on the fight, I completely disagree and think the hills and stairs add to make it more like a real life fight. You must have a cr@p brain if you can't keep your concentration on the fight whilst simultaneously traversing a flight of stairs or a hill. Anyway, I loved Tekken 4 so much that I am now struggling to decide whether Tekken has overtaken VF (4 and evo lost it somewhat) as the best 3D fighting series. Well, I still like VF3 more than any other fighter but Tekken 4 brought it closer than it has ever been.
  23. 3rd Strike is the most prefered Street Fighter 3 (and maybe most prefered SF altogether ), but I've never been a fan of turbo in fighting games. I find Dead or Alive too fast, 3rd Strike too fast and certainly SF Alpha 3 on default turbo 2 i waaaaaaay too fast (a shame aswell as that is the way it is played on kaillera). So that's why I prefer 2nd Impact, just my opinion that speed sucks. I have great reasons why turbo is worse, but can't be bothered to explain. sorry And about the Virtua Fighter 3 instead of VF4, well reason number 1 - VF4 is faster - obviously, 2. The boring flat backgrounds instead of the great hills, stairs, slopes etc etc 3. Taka-Arashi rules 4. Great music tunes similar to VF 1 and 2 instead of non-discript guitars 5. I just prefered the subtle differences in the physics, feeling of hitting them and others Obviously I still love VF 4, but I will always prefer VF3. - hope that answered your questions.
