  1. Is it really that important to play snes games portable. I bet at least 60% of the time u feel like playing a snes game, you are already in front of your PC. and that's only if you actually own the flash cart thingy. Seems like a bit of a waste of time to me...
  2. I keep getting a Lost Connection message whilst in the middle of a game. This happens on Kawaks 1.49 and MAME 0.64 I've tried turning off my firewall (cos that's a pain) just in case, but it wasn't that. It p*sses me off when I'm rocking all arse and then it quits on me. Or, when I'm losing and it quits making the other player think i have no manners and can't "Face It's Strength!!".... When I get back to the server, I can't post messages to let the other guy know what heppened or do anything else. I need to exit and then rejoin kaillera. Anyone know why this keeps happening to me? I LOVE online fighting, so someone please help!
  3. Everything I play on Kaillera (Capcom and SNK games mostly) - 'Firecracker' Everything other than that (Quake III, Unreal 2K3/4 etcetera) - 'Whacks' or 'Fraggle Rock'
  4. Thanks K-Man. I'm a little worried about uninstalling display drivers, I don't understand how it will display anything when I restart if I uninstalled all video drivers (i'm new to computers). Thanks for that reply, it may be for a short while until I can try it out, but it sounds like you know what you're talking about and I'll post back as soon as i've tried it.
  5. There has been a strange twist in this tale. Everything I view on screen that scrolls causes this problem (emulator or window moving around desktop) all but one thing that is; Magic Engine. It doesn't happen at all whilst using that. Why should this be the case? What's different about the way Magic Engine works? Help would be appreciated. Thanks
  6. (I posted something similar a while ago but now I’m pretty sure this isn’t a problem specific to emulators and I have more information so I’m posting this in PC technical help. I’m sure it’ll be okay but feel free to move it if you must!) My graphics card is an nVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200 with 128mb ram and my screen resolution has always been set to 1600x1200 – 32bit (if that makes any odds). What is displayed on the screen is cutting up temporarily (see Image) whenever anything scrolls (vertically and horizontally). The best description I could give is that it looks as though the scrolling images are ‘shimmering’. This was initially noticeable whilst using emulators (as they are primarily 2D and scroll almost constantly). But the problem occurs whether moving a Window around or scrolling up and down on an Internet page. I believe this problem was always noticeable but I’m pretty sure it’s much worse, horrendously so in fact. I installed an official upgrade for nvidia display drivers from Microsoft ‘s site a while ago, I don’t know if this caused the problem to worsen or whether it just took me a while to notice it. Does anyone know whether installing new video card drivers would be the thing to do or is there something else that may help, such as changing my monitors refresh rate or fiddling with the display adaptors settings? I am a novice with most aspects of PC’s, so help and advice from people who know what they are talking about would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. That's because arcade goers can be such heathens. SF3 is the greatest SF by a million miles and summed up the entire series in one game. It is the pinnacle of Street Fighter and anyone who has stuck through the series as avidly as me (and not just dipped in and out amidst all the other fighting games) should realise this. Sure I play other fighters and other games, but still nowhere near as much as I play the SF series. To this day, when I'm not playing on my DC SFIII series, and I'm deciding which emulator and game to play I can't help starting up MAME with any of the original SFII's. Capcom nailed the fighting genre in one fell swoop and I see small, subtle evidences of genius everytime I play the old SF's that convince me the whole fighting thing would not have taken off, if Capcom hadn't had the foresight to include them. SFIII takes everthing full circle and the newest games in the series have taken on board what worked from all Capcom's other fighters, discarded all the fatty pap that was surplus to requirements and once again hit the nail on the head and included all of the SFII subtleties that pass most people by. The pace, the damage levels, the priorities of certain attack hits. It was all perfect before Alpha came along and messed it up (somewhat). It p*sses me off when people slate SFIII. Capcom knew what they were doing, they created the whole genre for God's sake. It's the player's that weren't clever enough to appreciate just how well Capcom know the genre their game created. The player's had cottoned on to the crass Alpha series and weren't ready for Capcom's attempt at re-schooling them. People who dislike SFIII are probably the same people who agree with the common knowledge that Dan Hibiki is a useless character. No, Dan is invincible. When me and my brother play we have to ask permission before we are allowed to choose him.
  8. You wouldn't need to set it up so that a key was down-towards. I used to use a keyboard for all fighting games for quite a while and the only move that gave me any trouble was a reverse dragon punch (I was so p*ssed that I couldn't play as Fei-Long). I used the cursor keys and was initially very surprised to find that I only needed to press down then forward to do fireballs (quarter-circles) or back, down, forward for yoga flames (half-circles). It was pretty easy to do even the most complex supers (are you listening Geese?!) That was in MAME though I don't know if it's set up differently.
  9. you do know that SDM's have become LDM's (so can only be done by your team's leader character) )in 2003 right? Okay, just checking!! To set up multiple keys (in mame) just press enter on the buttons you want to setup (in this case a and c) and add another key or joypad button in with that. so for a+c to work you'd need to change button 1 [A] to say, numpad 8 and then change button 3 [C] to numpad 8 also. mame's menu should then show that you have button 1 set to numpad 1 and numpad 8. Then in game, if you pressed numpad 8 at the end of your motion you'd get a perfect press of A+C. You can have any combinations of buttons (and any amount in my experience) as long as you know what you've set each thing to. I have a+b+c, b+c+d, b+c, and c+d set to the shoulder butttons on a PS pad. you can surmise for yourself the amount of effort required to set thet lot up....
  10. I know you're only trying to help, and I appreciate it but it's nothing to do with that. What happens is that when an emulated game scrolls - the bottom third of the screen, the middle portion and the top third are all ever so slightly mis-aligned and are constantly flickering between this state and normality until the scrolling stops (not too often in most games). This problem only happens when games scroll (but especially if they scroll rapidly as is the case in Terry's Garou stage. What with it being set on a train and all...) I do play Garou in MAME but this isn't a problem specific to any game, any technology or any particular emulator. It happens in all emulators. From MAME to Kawaks to RockNES to MEKA and everything in between (and On all PC's, as far as I've seen). And no it doesn't happen in regular PC games. It's a subtle flaw, that isn't too noticeable if you aren't looking for it, and if the game sports a complex BG arrangement that will hide it. But it is clearly visible in the games I listed (that's why I only mentioned those particular games). I don't expect there's a simple solution (or one at all) but some recognition would be nice. Surely other emulation fans must have seen this at least? The only thing I can guess is that it's something to do with refresh rates of PC monitors.
  11. MAME is THE best emulator to use if you have the resources to run everything properly. It is rock solid. I'm a retro games freak and have a full romset but I find I use it primarily for the Neo-Geo and CPS1 + 2 games. For me, no other Emulator has come close since I downloaded it. If someone could create a MAME for all formats instead of just coin-ops, so I could wave goodbye to all the waste-of-space MD, SNES, GB, NES, Master System, N64 and PC ENGINE emus that are always missing crucial features and options thus forcing me to compromise, I'd be bloody stoked. I run all my games on full resolution and with RGB sharp and the games look phenomenal. Displayed as they were intended. This isn't possible in any other emulator I have, no matter what combination of options I select. The GUI is perfect allowing easy access to all features and games and displaying multiple screens and images relating to each game something no other emulator ever bothers with (even though I admit it is something trivial to many). Plus configuring and re-configuring the controllers exactly how I want them is a snap. Bottom line is, if your machine is powerful MAME absolutely nukes the competition. The biggest praise I could heap upon it is - It is the closest an emulator can get to feeling like a professional shop bought product. As opposed to an amateurish "at least it does the job" program like most emulators are. How happy was I when I discovered that SVC, Samurai Shodown V, Metal Slug 5 and KOF 2003 were downloadable bundled with a MAME that could run them?!
  12. Street Fighter Alpha 3 was the worst Alpha game. It did have more characters (I only enjoyed playing as Cody from the new guys), but the whole feeling of the game was altered. The juggles were good fun but made the fights rather clumsy. In my opinion the Alpha games got worse. SFA1 had the right damage levels and difficulty level (on level . SFA2 was good but the fights went on a bit too long and SFA3 was just way too easy (on top difficulty) and added too many daft features (safe fall and juggling) and the characters were way too weak (except obviously Blanka and E.Honda - the cheesiest SF characters ever).
  13. I've been looking around there for before and I can't see any good ones. I thought that someone on thesde forums might already know the best one. I've seen one that you have to pay for (just like the goddamn Magic Engine) which is ridiculous.
  14. MICROSOFT MSX?! It was a japanese computer made by different Japanese manufacturers (sony, mitsubishi, JVC etc) in an attempt to create an industry standard. I also need help with any good MSX emulators. I've posted a topic for MSX help.
  15. I have lots of good MSX and MSX2 roms, but have no idea where to get a good emulator for them. The ones I have are either too confusing or just plain crap. Please Help Thanks
  16. I'm betting that that all emulation fans have encounted the scrolling problem within emulators. It's when the image gets cut up (about 2 thirds up from the bottom of the monitor ). If you don't know what I'm talking about get to round 3 on Terry's stage in Garou Mark of the Wolves or play Shinobi or Shadow Dancer in Mame (the problem is particularly visible on these games). It is a problem that happens all the time on every single emulator. I'm just wondering if any of you technical wizards can help solve the problem, or just tell me why it happens. Thanks
  17. It's in the PS emulation section because VF4 is a PS game and it would bestupid to have one half of the poll in the ps emu section and 1 in saturn/dreamcast emu.
  18. Oh, I've done that... I found a way of fixing it without downloading a new mame. It's really simple when you think about it. Only problem is, as of right now, I can't remember what I did! If I think of it I'll post it.
  19. I spent all yesterday working out what the problem was. It turns out I had a ton of spyware/adware and gawd knows what else, running in the background which started itself up by default everytime Windows started. So, the problem is fixed now, thanks. MAME is back!! Being a beginner with PC's I didn't think I'd be able to eliminate the problem without any outside suggestions. Proves what I know! Just thought I'd write up what the problem was in case anyone else discovers MAME running much slower than normal.
  20. I'm having trouble setting up the controls for Track And Field so they work as they do in the arcade version. (two buttons needing to be rapidly alternated in order to run). In my MAME however I set the controls, the result is the same. The game ends up working more like Sega's Decathlete where just the single button receiving constant punishment is enough to perform well. In MAME Track And Field, if I rapidly push one button the game works. If I try alternating the character just stands there or moves very slowly. Any ideas?
  21. -Edited out- Thanks for the link. It's a great site.
  22. I have a P4 2.53ghz processor, 1024mb ddr ram and an nvidia geforce4 ti4200. I listed those in the order that is most important for mame emulation. Anyway, I had all games running perfectly using a configuration that suited me for the first year and a half of owning the PC. Lately when running games such as the KOF series, SF Alpha and even Super SF2 and Art of Fighting 1 the sound is cracklng and frames are being dropped. My mame configuration is using RGB sharp effects (which I need ) but this still ran every game (3D games aside, obviously) perfectly. My question is how the heck can the performance suddenly change overnight? I've tried restarting and playing mame before doing anything else but it is still the same. Can someone please explain this problem and hopefully suggest a solution. Help would be much appreciated. Thank You.
  23. The Guilty Gear series is by Sammy, so it wouldn't be included.
  24. Certain new games are not supported yet. They are work in progress. If when you audit a game and the icon is RED. This means that it won't work until the mame developers have got it working. Then it will work in the next update, mame 0.79 or whatever it may be. Ehrgeiz does work in 0.78 onwards, but will probably be unplayable on any one's machine due to speed requirements.
  25. The mame roms don't work because; if they were games you had working before (in an older mame version), the rom that mame is looking for has changed - download the new version from a site that has 0.78 roms listed. You'll have to check which has become the new 'original' romset as the version will mostlikely have changed. Some Atari games have upgraded their 'Original' rom set (set 4 instead of set 3 for Gauntlet for example). If the roms just don't work but are passed when audited, then the rom is actually from the mame work in progress (which has been integrated into regular mame versions). These are roms that will hopefully be fully supported in the future, but at the moment are non working.
