  1. i just bought an original copy of Tomb Raider: Chronicles (i dont care what you think of it, so dont bother reviewing it to me). its odd that it didnt have a decent cover but still has a manual. then when i got home, popped CD 1 and browsed its contents, i notice that one small file in the root folder has a copy of itself in the same place (named "Copy of ENGLISH.DAT"), a somewhat incomplete readme.txt file and, a version.txt file which contains: now, you may be wondering what this has to do with the Topic Description, and here it is, an excerpt from Gamespot's Tomb Raider: Chronicles PC version review now im not saying that you cant trust game reviewers but remember, reviewers tend to b!tch and whine about the glaring bugs they can find in a game but forgets that theyre reviewing a pre-release version and as always, is subject to be changed. you may be better off with actual user comments but thats your choice. this may be old but at least you got one more proof of it now. as for the CD i bought, im just gonna have to replace it with another game
  2. the idea just doesnt seem flexibly marketable in my opinion. i think that if it opens for a sequel then they may have a go at it, whatever keeps the $$$ rolling. but seeing all the good stuff at once in a single title may leave them empty-handed with ideas afterwards. but then again, this is their last 2D fighting game? was that announced? can i have a link to it?

  4. every group in humanity has its own code of honor: lawyers, enforcers, soldiers, marketing people, corporates and hell, even thieves has them. as for the reason of not open-sourcing, there are a lot of factors that gets to it, shallow to deep. one would be because the programming style just plain obfuscated but is actually good after compiling (lack of comments, etc). maybe it contains copyrighted material that the programmer dont want to show to everybody. there are others but well never know, really. Dooz, try to at least view things from another perspective and you may just understand what the earlier replies are saying all along.
  5. i didnt think it was horrible altogether, just awfully lackluster as for game competitiveness, i dont think i can do a good judgement with that one cause i havent played anything competitively (im a single player person). i would of preferred to see the "Grooves" return though, makes things equal for everybody. also, after winning each battle (not round mind you - before the score shows), it just seem to take a long pause for some reason. nothing fatal with that one, but i ended up trying to fast forward the game after each battle (because evey fighting game before this one has it) if you like the game engine, you may just end up getting back to CVS2 afterwards. ill still play this if i get to see this in the arcade again, just to pass time. and btw Boomba_Goose, the endings in CFJ, you see your sig? the caliber looks like those, just looks a lot more japanese.
  6. i went to the local arcade earlier and i was surprised that they have CFJ. but fairly disappointed in the end. i only played it once but is still sort of worth it on my end since i got to finish it in that one sitting anyway the gameplay physics is exactly like CVS2, but the mechanics are vastly stripped down. SF2 characters only have one super bar, and only SF3 characters can parry, etc. its not a true 2-on-2 fighting as some may think, you just have the option to change to your partner after each round. the visuals (i mean the art sections) made by former SNK artist never failed to impress me. however, the sprites will depress you, its exactly the same sprites from the games the characters represented (i dont think their animation has been buffed either). the last boss, Pyron, again using the old sprite he used in VS2, didnt feel like a boss to me at all, maybe the game was just set to a lower difficulty level the endings only show row-by-row images (which will resemble a comic book page afterwards), one for each character you selected. dont think of this as a spoiler as YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS. it rocks, probably my favorite section of the game since i only played it in one sitting, i dont have a clue if there are other end bosses or hidden characters. if you think Ingrid is a Kula ripoff, youre wrong, shes an Athena clone, even the background music when you fight her will prove that overall rating...no comment. damn Capcom, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?!??
  7. i always thought its a lot more fun to watch CPU battles than doing it myself in any Mugen mod ive encountered
  8. Neil Manke - not really a dev but who the hell doesnt know "They Hunger" series. nearly all his older maps from Q1 are also worthwhile mentions. Steven Polge - you know? those awesome Unreal/UT Bots, hes the criminal i could say that i admire all AI developers, emulating human thoughts for MP gaming is just never an easy task to begin with.
  9. well, yeah, but theres still a good number of carts that havent been dumped, like the SF1 (or looks like it) cart and Arumana no Kiseki bootleg cart (i used to play this when i was a kid). the carts im thinking seems to be HK-pirate circles based though. Best of luck to the new dump group
  10. im not talking to you to begin with, im referring to Dooz's comments and thats not the point im trying to put across either. if hes really into stopping rom-kiddiez then he couldve completely changed the driver system to begin with (and making it like Kawaks where you cant really do anything by default). the thing is that its his personal decision to make Nebula non open-source to begin with, nobody can totally assume why or what really gives (remember that people that actually bought the games have their own rights to it as well) but besides that, its just that he can pretty much take care of the program by himself anyway. the proposal youve made is, quite frankly, too feeble of a novelty when compared to...say, the X-Men mod. you just want plain neatness, the X-Men mod changes the way you play COTA dramatically. when you just look at it carefully, its not even that important to when compared to...say fixing raster bugs that the emulation may have. you never know, maybe hes not replying to your mails because he probably knew this already, or maybe it just happens on YOUR end. and like what James said, graphic filters and patches are NOT true emulation. in my eyes, its just more beautiful, but it doesnt change my opinion on which is the better emulator. i hope i didnt made that reply bloated, im sleepy...
  11. I say, who cares? The guy didn't make the emulator well enough, now someone is gonna fix it for him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> not true. ElSemi did NOT made Nebula open-source for a reason. maybe you just dont like Nebula but that doesnt mean its bullpoo.
  12. why not try it yourself? video output and other specialties has always been a matter of preference between emus.

  14. yes, the slower the PC the worse the speed of rendering can get (as it depends on many layers and sprites are being rendered as it seems), and the D3D and OGL options dont help as much either. the only solution is a fast PC (which most people already have) im on a slug PC but i havent seen the tetris flash game so i cant really tell how bad things can get.
  15. not every PC user that can surf the net has technical know-hows (and i know a good number of people that are exactly like this). for them, if everything works then theyre content with it. basically, this means people still living with IE5 isnt an impossible factoid. also, not everyone has the resources and the mad skillz to get around the "real browser" (though i believe most people should have the resources already). all-in-all the fix is totally selfless and a nice thing to be done and i thank GC for it yes, and very easily.
  16. sorry for reviving this thread, but it got to my attention, arent the games in Flash format? could it be possible that a slow PC can help tremendously? and what does this "snapback" tag do?

  18. i guess i dont suck at shooters as much as i thought, i got to level 13 yesterday, though for some reason im having a lot harder time to reach there than it was yesterday, must be luck also, Shooters Solitude was really cool (from the same site as WF), though much tougher
  19. ive been hearing rumors of PC KOF versions for years now. not saying that it isnt possible but i wouldnt keep my hopes up if i were you.
  20. this may be warezy if you can find it, get Baroque Shooting. as good as it looks, it was reported to even run as fast 60 fps on a 486 machine. goddamn awesome programming if you ask me.
  21. You mean no emus will play with with propper sound. exactly, until the decrypted m1 (m1d) gets released. even the encrypted V ROMs for ROTD, MSLUG4 and PNYAA (and possibly others yet to be known) can only use their decrypted m1s for now.
  22. all encrypted m1s since KOF2000 (yes, kof2000) hasnt worked on all emus (yes again, all emus including MAME and FBA). so in reality, no emus will play SSVS until either the encryption is figured out for MAME and FBA or the m1d gets released.

  24. i would at least prefer to see Eiji or some random AOF2/3 guy (Karman Cole? no i dont like him, i just thought randomness that gives players a good "wtf?" expression would be nice ). Robert being on the entire KOF games doesnt sound underrated to me.
  25. i dont know how effective that spy doctor program is but quite frankly, when the free alternatives (Adaware and Spybot S&D) are as efficient as it gets, theres just no reason to use anything else at all. you can get Spybot S&D here: http://security.kolla.de/ check Adawares page btw, as far as i know, it was recently updated. make sure you update their definitions as well (or whatever they call it)
