Alpha Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 CHICAGO (Reuters) - McDonald's plans to remove oft-criticised Super Size french fries and soft drinks by the end of the year, part of broader plans to simplify its menu and offer choices that appeal to consumers' heightened concerns about health. McDonald's, the world's largest fast-food company, said on Wednesday it is making the changes to "support a balanced lifestyle" strategy. They come as the company and many of its rivals move to offer foods that diverge from traditional fatty fast-food fare, including more entree-sized salads, chicken sandwiches, fruit and milk for children. The Super Size option, a seven-ounce fries carton and 42-ounce drink, has been targeted by critics as part of the cause of a growing obesity crisis in the United States. McDonald's said in a prepared statement that drinks will still be available as a promotional option. The Super Size fries contain 610 calories, 29 grams of fat, 390 milligrams of sodium and 77 grams of carbohydrates, according to analysts. By the way, a super super size fries is a big super size cup of french fries for $5 or $3 I think.
Diso Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Who actually cares? The large size fries is almost the same thing as the super size fries with the exception of 30 french fries missing. Your point? The only reasonable thing with the Super sized is those monopoly pieces
ForceX Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 IIRC we don't have any Super Size french fries and soft drinks over here in Australia....we only have Small, Medium and Large...so it really doesn't affect me Oh well....
-VIOLENCE- Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 oh well i just get ceasar salad anyways when i go to mc donalds
2eyez Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 people are such idiots...lack of exercise = over weight...why can't they figure it out...but dang though, no more super size...it's only 49 cents more...plus, i get to keep the plastic cup...
Shibathedog Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Whats the point in paying 3 times as much for a bigger cup of soda compared to the price of a small? There is none, why? FREE REFILLS!!!! Why would you pay more? Just too lazy to go get your free refill and want more time in between shifting your fat ass off of the greasy mcdonalds seat? McDonalds is crappy, it makes you fat, and it tastes like all the food is 90% grease, not to mention the burgers taste like sponges and the Chicken nuggets have strange lumps in them, i swear to god i once found a testicle.
solidius23 Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 i dont eat mcdonlads anyway but their fires rocked it will be the same if u get a large
Rag Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 o no, what horrible news! People might actually start to... *gasp* become skinny!!! I don't like Mcdonald's that much, nor have I tryed the super size I think. I have it about 5 times a year at most I think. Maybe less
Shibathedog Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 people are stupid too DURR IF I STARVE MYSELF ILL LOSE WEIGHT!! no, actually you just eat healthly, AND exercise Starving yourself wont helpONLY eating healthing wont help, Subway seems to disagree with me and so does idiot JaredONLY exercising MIGHT help, but its better to eat healthy AND exercise Im going to see the same fatass in my mcdonalds though, instead of a large fries, he will have 2 medium ones now
valiant trust Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Heh, it is all about In n out now that is good fries. Yes and excersize would be good, not just loafing around in front of the television all day. Oh well, too much obese people now days.
AntiWinner22 Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Super Size? That doesn't exist at Jack In The Box or at Carl's Jr., so I don't know what you guys are talking about Anon.
Gryph Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Well I guess its about time. But people need to figure out that exercise is possibly the most important part to staying slim and fit. And a proper diet, ofcourse. But now little fat kids are going to start whinning why there isn't any more supersize for their incredible fatty appetites. "It's because you're 30 pounds overweight you little fat sack o' crap!" Oh I wish I could say that... But I think this is a pretty good first step for McDonalds to take. I mean, their food is still fatty as hell. They still haven't gotten rid of trans-fatty acids which is probably the major culprit in the health issues. So they need to figure out something to do about that, but that'll be a while. A long while. Personally, I hate McDonalds and other fast food joints. And if I ever have to eat there if I'm on the road, I only medium fries because they're so damn oily in the first place. The only good fast food restaurant is Popeyes...love that chicken (and biscuits) from Popeyes! Yumm...
AntiWinner22 Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 I don't think you can blame McDonald's wholy for the fat trend in this country. Most of it is the culture, ya know? That is my opinion. Anon.
Gryph Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Yeah that is true. But the culture you're referring to is basically a McDonald's culture. The spread of these fast food places (and all other big corporations) all around the world is also referred to as "McDonaldization." The fast food companies give the public such easy and plentiful choices that people are bound to go for them. Why cook a meal when you can take the McFatty family down to McDonald's for a hearty BigMac and supersize fries. You can go to http://www.mcdonaldization.com/whatisit.shtml. I remember I went to this site to do my economics paper in senior year of high school.
N3oGhost Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 (edited) So now we gotta buy 2 fries and 2 cokes? lolIdiot ass people. If someone wants to eat, theyre going to eat.........supersize or not. Its all about choices we all have them. Taking away OPTIONS aka Supersize wont take away the choice to eat a lot of food. sick of these retards.I'm Lovin It! Edited March 4, 2004 by N3oGhost
