Skythe Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 It might not be an RPG, but it has RPG like elements. Finally someone speaks the truth. Well it's true. RPGs rely on statistics, which Zelda doesn't. You can almost run through the whole game just having your sword and shield and 3-5 hearts. If this ain't proof that you're a load of crap then I don't know what else will.

OverlordMondo Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Zelda has zero RPG elements. Not one. It's action adventure. The game focuses on puzzle solving and killing things in generic action game style. I'm interested in hearing where in this game there is anything similar to an RPG.
Lucandrake Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 You can claim that , Ruppee's = Gil. Talking to Villagers with Chat Boxes for hints = RPG Element. Items and Weapons, etc... But then that would make games like DMC an RPG...which is a HackNSlash. That would also mean that Sonic The Hedgehog (360) is an RPG, but it's an action/adventure... You could go on....

But Virtually all games (bar sports games maybe) have RPG elements, but having these elements doesn't make them RPGs. What makes an RPG is the inclusion of a dedicated character stats system. Zelda doesn't have stats, and neither do a plethora of other games - but they still have some RPG elements.

There's no need to take it to the next level. This is just a simple discussion.
fumanchu Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 neither of them,i just find this genre of game completely boring and pointless.
Skythe Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I'm not saying the LoZ series is a full RPG but they do have aspects of them that everyone refuses to acknowledge because you don't physically see your stats or get experience points from defeating enemies or that it's not turned based. That basing a game if it's an RPG off those criteria is retarded. RPGs rely on statistics This is what I was referring to as being a load of crap.
Samurai Edge Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I would say Final Fantasy. I never really liked Zelda since there are lots of puzzles to solve. I like such games but I seriously suck at them.
Krosigrim Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Final Fantasy, for a few reasons. First and foremost, play time. Final Fantasy games always leave me getting everything there is. which I have put in over 200 hours in FFXII. As for Zelda games, getting everything and finishing it off, takes but a fraction of the time. Which of course is a reflection on the games story... Without an extensive story, your left with no emotional attachment to the characters. When I play FF, I'm all like "O yea biatch? Eat this, and take bosses out with extreme pregidous. But with Zelda games, I just hack away at whatever. The Zelda story lines are TOO similar. Carbon Copies, that practically have the same boss. You get boomerang, you get grappleshot, you get master sword. And on top of this... the thing that bothers me most about Zelda games... is the difficulty level. IT'S TOO EASY!!! Sure, FF games are no prob, but if you blow through it, and are lower than the suggested level, it's more of a challenge. With Zelda, it's too simple... It's a childs game. They need to have some decent AI. You know, enemies that don't do the same routine over and over. Like, if you were to do something, they might try a counter. They need a battle engine, that has something to it. Not this obvious opening, then capitalization BS, where you do it 3 times, then it's dead. Like an Onimusha "Dawn of Dreams" or Devil may cry, meets Zelda. Those games require more involvement in battling. That would be bad ass. And if they made the world bigger, and stopped relying on same 'ole same BS that they always have. flock Gahnon, flock Epona. Twilight Princess was cool, but it too, had the same 'ole same feel. I want a NEW CHAPTER in Zelda. Where Link ant no female organ biatch. And he is out for owning fools. I'm tellin ya, Mix Zelda, with Onimusha Dawn of Dreams, and perhaps enhance on other fundamentals, then you have a game.
Lucandrake Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 RPGs rely on statisticsThis is what I was referring to as being a load of crap. Please name an RPG that doesn't .
OverlordMondo Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 RPGs rely on statisticsThis is what I was referring to as being a load of crap. Please name an RPG that doesn't .Better than that, name what makes a game an RPG.
Wishdokta Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 FF vote. It's more intense within each chapter. Nothing against Link. But always the same thing. We can't speak of 'plot' in it. I'd rather compare Zelda with Mario.
Bambi Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I'd rather compare Zelda with Mario. Not that good of a comparison either. If you say Zelda series of games are RPG's cause you talk to people and collect money you could just as easily say the forum attack system is an RPG cause you talk to people and collect money.
