Weirdy Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Did Miskie transfer all sites on the same server to this new server?
someboddy Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 So.... if the all the sites were moved, does it mean that there won't be any more downtimes?

Superman Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 it seems faster then miskies server,<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm pretty sure that this still is miskie's server just a new one.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> yeah, and he didn't close all the sites properly right Ryder?
miskie Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 okay -- to answer some questions -- Yes, everything that was on the old server is getting moved to this one. In terms of hardware, the new server is about the same as the old one -- its the software changes that matter the most. the old server was based on RedHat9 -- this new one is CentOS4 (redhat enterprise linux 4) and is Sooo much better -- For example, I havent even optimised anything for high traffic use yet.. its all set at default, yet its not even close to overloading. Since there are now too many sites and running forums on this server, I pulled down DNS first, making it impossible for anyone to connect to any of the sites or services, except by IP number. -- I cant run around putting everyones stuff into offline mode anymore, there is just too many of them nowadays. After that I backed up all the sites and databaases, and moved them.
Superman Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 (edited) I was still able to connect, browse, post and attack at a few forums when others couldn't. Good job though. Edited May 20, 2006 by Superman
Lucandrake Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I had to use a proxy to get on 1emu, and after loging in I couldn't view the forums
miskie Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 well, thats the thing with DNS -- after I took down both of my servers, other DNS servers acting as relays needed to learn that something was wrong, so, some people lost connectivity sooner than others, and thats also why a proxy 'sort of' worked.. after about 10 hours all sites were down for everyone, and thats when the backup began.
CJ Jackson Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 (edited) I'm pretty sure that this still is miskie's server just a new one.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> You caught me out, I won't forget the American English between you and Superman with the Jelly and Jello you also got caught out with the spam thing with bills or biitz or whatever his name is. Robert Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 my DNS takes about a week to catch up, all the old forums just kept working except for Anarchy. I had to ask around for the IP addresses of the new servers and add to my hosts file. Otherwise I wouldn't have got back here till next weekend.
Agozer Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Excellent work guys. From what I gathered from miskie's post, everything much better than before.
