Gryph Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Well it's being posted everywhere else so might as well post it here. # CPU - Xenon's CPU has three 3.0 GHz PowerPC cores. Each core is capable of two instructions per cycle and has an L1 cache with 32 KB for data and 32 KB for instructions. The three cores share 1 MB of L2 cache. Alpha 2 developer kits currently have two cores instead of three.# GPU - Xenon's GPU is a generation beyond the ATI X800. Its clock speed is 500 MHz and it supports Shader 3.0. Developers are currently working with an alpha 2 GPU. Beta GPU units are expected by May and the final GPU is slated for a summer release. The final GPU will be more powerful than anything on the market today; in game terms, it would handle a game like Half-Life 2 with ease.# System Memory - Xenon will have 256 MB of system RAM. Keep in mind that this number should not be equated to typical PC RAM. The Xbox has 64 MB of system RAM and is a very capable machine. http://xbox.gamespy.com/xbox/microsoft-xbox/594331p1.html
Diso Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Well thats pretty cool. But Im sticking with the ps3 on this one
AntiWinner22 Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 *Gets on knees and pray for Jet Set Radio Neo...* XBOX 2... i love you... Anon.
Smilee Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Nice, i heard they were moving the half-life 2 version over to xbox 2. *welcome back antiwinner
AntiWinner22 Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Smilee knows what I'm talking about... Jet Set Radio Neo... I WANT IT!!! But seriously, with these specs, XBOX2 is going to kick some hainous anus. I don't know if I have saliva glands powerful enough to last me till the end of this year. Haha. Anon.
Inky Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 sounds awesome! that will keep sony fan boys on thier toes.
Gryph Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 Actually those specs are less than what was predicted. The rumors were 3x3.5 ghz PowerPC CPUs. Everything else was pretty much correct, the next gen ATI, the 256 RAM. The camera is quite surprising though. However, I think the PS3 will be more powerful. The PS3 will have 9 cores in a single CPU, and is likely to have 2 CPUs which means 18 processing units. But the XBOX2 is coming out this year, PS3 isn't.
Bluestinger X Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 sounds great and Ill be defently getting one.. the only thing i kinda see a downer is the dvd.. why not get a better format? since dvd is on the end of its rope almost.
Thraxen Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 I am a bit surprised they stuck with standard DVDs, but I'm sure it won't matter. The vast majority of XBox games only take up a single layer on a DVD... most range from about 1.5 - 4 GB.
BlackKnight Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 The DVD thing isn't suprising... developers will be hard pressed to generate much more content that a dual layer DVD can store in most cases. However, while that X800 superior GPU is interesting, I can't help but think that it's all going to be whiped out by the Cell...
Wizard Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Jet Set Radio Neo... I WANT IT!!!<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Thats the crappiest title since Future, oh wait, Future sucks too. Xbox2 coming out this year: Head start or failure? YOU CHOOSE! Early bird gets the worm, remember when the PS2 came out? Other then being hyped like hell. It sold by mass of the earth during the first few months. Cell does look interesting though. But it's partly a Sony product, so screw that. You can fit pretty much all content these days on a normal DVD5. Casual gamers want a game thats hyped like hell. Regardless of length, but I bet most of them would go "Damn this is long."
Chaotica Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Xbox2 coming out this year: Head start or failure? YOU CHOOSE! Early bird gets the worm, remember when the PS2 came out? Other then being hyped like hell. It sold by mass of the earth during the first few months. I don't know about early starters...remember the Dreamcast? It got an early start too. I miss Dreamcast.
Agozer Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Nice specs, but I want to see the games. Hardware has little hype value for me.
L.S.D Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Dun put your hope up for the CELL from Sony. 1. This is being developed with really HIGH COST. This is going to a) cost Sony a lot of money to compete with Micro$oft. PS3 will be very very expensive. 2. The capability of CELL is not proven. Period. I am seeing a losing battle from Sony.XBox 2 prospect seems brighter now
