  1. anyone know if the "hyper neo geo 64" is emulated?
  2. Yeah, if you've got aldo's frontend, just go to "options --- controller setup" Problem solved.
  3. Whoa, that was quick! No problems. Let me know how you get on. Yeah, Toshinden 2 is cool, but "Rival Schools" is cooler!
  4. Just put it in the zinc main directory. The only other thing you need is "firmware.zip". zinc's bios rom. Put that in your "roms" directory. That's it!
  5. Just get a zinc GUI (graphical user interface). I use Aldo's ZincFE. Get it at http://www.aldostools.com. Its a breeze to use with that.
  6. You should have specified - ie instead of arcade had "cps/2/Neo Geo" emulator, or had alot more choices. My favourite arcade emulator is probably Zinc (Sony ZN-1/System 12 games), because it is fast and runs some cool games (like Rival Schools! ...Strider 2...Battle Arena Toshinden 2...)....theres even a chance it will emulate Tekken Tag Tournament on its final release. Also, when I emulate cps/etc... games, I usually use "NeoRageX", but thats only because I've grown used to the startup screen and it looks funky. But I have grown to using Kawaks more, because I can use 2*sai filtering on it on my very average PC without much slowdown, but for Nebula I cant use any filtering at all without it slowing down rediculously. MAME is just too much of a beast for my pc to handle as well. Also, anyone with a decent PC should check out "Nebula Model 2" - it has support for various Sega Model2b games such as Sonic The Hedgehog Championship and The Last Bronx.
  7. Well, it turns out you guys are right - and wrong. I had a look over at http://www.system16.com and it turns out that Tekken 1 and 2 are on Namco System 11 hardware, but Tekken 3 is on System 12 (for the record Tekken Tag Tournament was on the System 12 but Tekken 4 was on the System 246. But the zn-s weren't mentioned at all.
  8. http://www.sidetalkin.com/ Pretty funny, but it gets kind of old quick!
  9. If you do, the best thing to do is to play with a mouse, or better yet if you have an analogue pad do what I do and get a joystick emulator like "joy-2-key" and set up the analogue pad to act like the mouse. Otherwise, you don't get the full experience (Segasonic was originally a trackball game, according to the instructional video at the start)
  10. I just struggled through the first 5 levels of "Segasonic the hedgehog" for the System32...finished the last level, and then it said "to be continued" and "game over". I also notice that Modeler lists this game as a "prototype". Was the full game never made, or is it just emulated yet? Has anyone seen this CRAZY game in the arcades?
  11. Yeah, I'm quite a fan of ZinC... well I'm impressed that it can run faster than my PSX emulators. I know it doesn't have as many features, but when you have a pc like mine, its all about speed! ...and I want to save ZinC!
  12. Seeing as many people here seems to think emulation lived and died with the cps2/Neo Geo, I decided to post a thread containing progress on all new emulators. It is in this format - Name (system emulated) info...< website >. Icarus (DreamCast) seems to be making great progress, there is a page of screenshots here, but I can't access them. Many games are emulated, but current framerate is 5-10fps. They seem to be getting close to a public release < http://boob.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard3/ikonb...fff;act=SF;f=10 > Dolphin (GameCube) everyone should have noticed the release of a public preview of this emu. Bust-a-move is fully playable, others playable with glitches < http://www.dolphin-emu.com > PCSX2 (PlayStation 2) seems to be making good progress, but not upto dolphin's progress. However, a half dozen or so games make it to the gameplay screen < http://www.pcsx2.net > ZinC - (Sony ZN-1) - Okay, I know this one isn't new. In fact, unfortunately, ZinC is nearing the end of its life, however by version 1 new games will be emulated. They seem to have given up on tekken tag though. Hopefully the authors will release the source code so that this emulator can be worked on after the authors stop. < http://www.emuhype.com > Modeler (Sega Sytem 32/ Model 1). This emulator is worked on by the ZinC crew (I think). This emulator is making good progress, however 3D polygons do not as of yet show up. When the Sys32 emulation is done, the authors want to add the whole system 32 code over to MAME then continue work on the Model 1 part. < http://www.emuhype.com >. Nebula Model 2 (Sega Model 2) . This is a nebula port for Sega Model 2 games. At the moment it is quite buggy (it crashes when I try to change to "system memory" but can run a fair number of games. < http://nebula.emulatronia.com >. Supermodel (Sega Model 3) . I'm quite excited about this one, it will emulate some new Sega arcade titles (Virtua fighter 3 was a model 3 game). The authors claim to be not close to a public release, but the screenshots prove otherwise (I hope) ! < http://www.system16.com/model3 > ??? (CPS3) the only people that seem to be working on furthering this cause were those french dudes we pissed off over Kof2k3...so I'm guessing this is on hold for a while. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay that's about it...please note that I have nothing to do with these projects, if you are better connected and have some more concrete news please post here. Also, if you have some news about other emulators I have missed, also feel free to add them to the list.
  13. You got to have a flashback showing how Gamecop was trained to be moderator (you could do it as a "Kung Fu" Rip-off - you know, "You have much to learn, glasshopper".
  14. Ah, okay, thanks. That makes sense. Yeah, I like Zinc, but the authors say its going to be discontinued (have a look at this thread.
  15. Assuming you are alive and kicking, I think you shall be fine. After all, the icarus emulator is nearing a public release, and apparently DreamEMU (or is it Dreamer?) is snapping on its heels. I reckon once an open-source Dreamcast emulator is released, Naomi emulation is not far behind. After all, I've been hanging around the Zinc forums waiting for the final release, and from reading those posts it seems that the Zinc emulator (which emulates the ZN-1, a Sony arcade system based on the playstation) was "easier" to code etc... because of the success of the PS1 emulators. Especially as psemu plugins only had to be altered a little so that they could work on zinc. HOWEVER, this is from the guru's website: . So even when the naomi does get emulated, don't think you are going to be able to download as many games as you could for the Neo Geo! As for the cps3, if (as I am assuming) the board is anything like the cps2 (which I am guessing it is), the only problem is the encryption. And once that is cracked, we should see successful cps3 emulators. No, what I am waiting for (and it looks closer than both of these projects) is a "model 3" emulator. Once this is released, we will be able to play games like "virtua fighter 3" and "sega rally 2" on our pcs. There is a work in progress page with screenshots at http://www.system16.com/model3/
  16. Actually, I have been looking into these things, and Zinc supports 3-5 times the games the Impact does. Unfortunately, it is going to be discontinued after a final release . Which is a shame as it seems that if they kept working on it, it would one day be able to emulate Tekken Tag Tournament, and some other cool games which have been dumped by "The Guru". Apparently, TTT can already be emulated in MAME (although how well I have yet to see as my PC sucks by today's standards), and it sounds as if the protection is being cracked as we speak. If only Zinc weren't going to die, I could see it doing good things. Hopefully they'll release the source code when they have finished with it, so that fans can continue working on it!
  17. Well, first you have to get the games - there is a website linked to somewhere on the forum which has all the kof games (apart from 2k3). Go to http://www.snkx.com/emulation-roms2.php and you should be able to get them. Next, put the WHOLE ZIP file (do not decompress it) into your roms directory. Then, click on "import roms" in your emulator and - presto... they should all work as long as your emulator supports them all. If it doesn't look for another emulator, or a hacked version of the one you have. That's really all you need to know as long as everything runs smoothly. Except, if you are going to get your roms from the above site, make sure you remove the number from the start of the roms' filenames (ie rename 241_kof2002.zip to kof2002.zip).
  18. Has anyone actually managed to run a zn1 game on MAME yet (ie tekken, Rival Schools etc...)? cos everytime I try I just get a green screen. I know the message comes up saying "this game doesn't work properly"...but that would imply that it sometimes worked AT ALL.
  19. I don't really know how to use MAME properly, so I stick to Kawaks and NeorageX for neo-geo & cps1+2 games, BUT MAME plays alot more than just these games and "old obsolete games". Go to http://www.system16.com... I am sure that many of you know about this site (this site is affiliated with the dude who is dumping SFIII, etc... probably the most famous guy in the emulation world), it is an arcade museum. It lists dozens and dozens of arcade machines and, something you will notice is mame plays games for most of the systems up until 1996-7...this includes games like "dead or alive", "lethal enforcers 2" the "tekken" games (or some of them), etc.. etc... you don't see the "user friendly emulators" doing THAT (although to be fair there is a "nebula model 2" emulator which emulates Sega Model 2 arcade games). I have respect for the things MAME can do, I just steer clear of it when I can!
  20. The only reason I prefer Kawaks is that you can do HEAPS more with the graphics (ie super2xSai blitters, etc...). Also, Kawaks seems to be faster than Nebula doing the same thing - I can run my games on super2xsai on Kawaks with very little slowdown, yet Nebula slows down heaps. I know Nebula wasn't an option, but hey...its probably the 3rd most used non-mame emulator if you count WinKawaks and NeorageX to be 1st and 2nd.
  21. I tried playing my rom of "last blade" (called lastblad) in both NeorageX version ECGC final, and all the graphics look corrupted. I can play it in mame but it looks fine, but id prefer to play it on neoragex. I tried it on another version of neorage i have (which is hacked to play ms5)...and it said "Bank error". Any idea what this means, and how to fix it?
  22. Actually, the game was called Knuckles Chaotix, and Sonic wasn't even a character, although there are 5 or 6 of them! It's a pretty cool game, you always have two characters joined by a magic pair of rings, and you can use the other character to speed up, kill enemies etc..etc...
  23. I found one which CKY did, where a chick called this dude up to sell him a newspaper subscription, and he pretended he had just been perscribed inhalation anthrax, and tried to get the girl to write up his obituary for him.
  24. Do you guys remember the ads they had on TV for the "game glove" or something - the controller for the NES which let you use a glove to control the playable character? ie I remember in the ad he would punch the screen for a boxing game, and make steering motions for a driving game, and even make lifting motions to jump Mario, etc.. etc... Anyone ever have one of these things? Were they cool? And if we had the technology to do them back when the ORIGINAL ghost busters cartoon was on the air, shouldn't we have (much better) versions for the next-gen consoles?
