Mega Man X3 - duh. Even if it's just a rehash of Mega Man X, it's a wonderful, beautifully realized rehash. Also as a combo platform/shooter - Gunstar Heroes.

This is cheating a bit but since it was a 'game' then I'd choose Super Mario All Stars

 

Failing that then the equally awesome Super Mario World will do

Wouldn't Battletoads be a beat 'em up and Dragon's Lair be a... umm.. something else? Just curious...

 

The first thing that came to mind when I read the topic was Gunstar Heroes, although I guess it's only sort of a platformer.

 

Super Mario World and Sonic 3 would be next.

Battletoads is a Beat 'em Up. Dragon's Lair is like an interactive something.... anyway, it's enogh something to start pulling your hair one by one.
