Rag Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Its sad that in the US it seems to be the final era of arcades. There is little left and even the ones that are left seem to only have broken machines in them. If I want to play Time Crisis, I gotta travel so far to one arcade, then if I want to play HOTD, the same for another. I can't even find one with old classics like D&D or SF games. As far as I know, theres no big arcades like there used to be. Does anyone have a lot of arcades still near them? Especially you guys in other countries.
Robert Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 The nearest arcade to me is about 10km away but I haven't visited for some time and it might not be there anymore. It had lots of neogeo games, sfiii, and so on.
GodPigeon Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Hard question since we all live in different places. But it isnt too hard for me to find an arcade, i can go to coney island or the pool hall around my way. Its pretty sad but it doesnt really bother me since im not a big fan of wasting SOO MUCH MONEY on a game that sometimes intentionally gets extremely difficult just to make you pay(thats what it does in MAME)
Alpha Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 The last two arcades I went to didn't even have a single fighting game! Let's just say it was a very depressing moment.
Lucandrake Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 There are still a few arcades around this area, but the majority of them are either 1.Cheap and only have 1-2 classics (that actually work) or 2.Are like Dave&Busters/Gameworks where you end up wasting more money then on christmas present buying day.
Alpha Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Time to rant: I don't see why games like Time Crisis require so many quarters. Last time, I remember paying $2.00 in quarters just to play the latest version.

iq_132 Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 No problem with arcades here, I've got a couple here (Kalamazoo), and a nice [dirty] one back home in Jackson.
Agozer Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 The last arcade over here is about to get shut down by the end of the year, or so I've heard. All the other arcades have simply died over the course of 7 or so years. It's sad because there are so many arcade lovers in this country, yet at the same time it's abysmally expensive to maintain and run an arcade center.
Lucandrake Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 I'm sorry but anybody willing to buy a bunch of high priced machines only to get quarters back in return is taking a big risk.
Diso Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 There are three family fun centers where Rag and I live. One is a total piece of crap. Nothing worked at all. The other two usually have birthday parties and stuff so we sometimes have to wait for people to play the game. There's also chuck e cheeses and stuff, but yuck? Sadly, the era of arcade gaming is being replaced due to the fact people have the convience of a console in their own home :/ I hope Guncon Arcades never die though; those are classic.
Ghosty Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Chuck E Cheese =/= Arcade? Fix'd!!! The Chuck e Cheeses I've been to has never, ever, EVER! Had 1 SF game. The most they EVER had was the ninja turtle arcade game. And the only ones I know of here in Santa Ana are laundrymats.
Rag Posted October 22, 2006 Author Posted October 22, 2006 Time to rant: I don't see why games like Time Crisis require so many quarters. Last time, I remember paying $2.00 in quarters just to play the latest version. I don't understand this either. The Time Crisis 4 that I found was $1, along with the House of the Dead 4. I could only really "try" TC4 because it was so expensive for one round.
2eyez Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I have to travel at least 1hr to a flee market to play an orginal Street Fighter 2 arcade. Even thought it's old, it still works fine. Other than that, I haven't seen any Capcom or Neo-Geo arcades in years. I see a bunch of Initial D arcades but come on now, a buck for a card and another buck for every play. I remember when the max cost was only two quarters. Also, Tekken Dark Resurrection is a buck to play. Even though I have most of the fighting games on my ps2, it doesn't beats the feeling of playing on a arcade. I sure miss playing Marvel vs Capcom 2. The only thing I play is those toy vending machnes. I'm starting my own collection of Sugar Loafs.
