BrOkEn ArRoW_29 Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 I am more of a fan boy for video games to succeed so I would like all 3 systems to do good. I guess we will just have to wait for the official pricing on the PS3. And if you are wondering why I think the price of the PS3 is what it is read this article: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20051105-5530.html

I wonder, how realistic are these figures. I was already prepared to spend up to $600 on the PS3 since It would hold every console game I would ever want to own. But $300-400? Wasn't it going to be extremely expensive?
Wizard Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 There is no truth to the price really. But Ken is saying is leading almost everyone to believe that it will only be for the "hardcore" crowd. Like the Neo-Geo.

Pricing wasn't the only thing that made the Neo systems sell poorly. How do you expect to sell a name only known in the arcade world, to home users? That and it was never advertised, I don't remember seeing an ad for the CD or AES, EVER. Not even a flyer/poster anywhere.
Inky Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 I remember being quite aware of the neogeo and wanting one something fierce. so there must have been some kind of ad campain nothing near what sony will thow at us though.
taratata Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 There were ads in newspapers at the time the neogeo AES was sold. Also, any good videogame shop had one on display here. Almost every kid I knew at the time asked his parents to buy him one. And absolutely not one of them was answered "yes". At first it was not as well-known as sega or nintendo, but it was soon known as the graal of gaming systems. So great, so pricey.

Weirdy Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 here's a question I've been pondering for a while ...did emulation help boost neogeo's popularity? do they have a bigger fan-base than they used to now than they had back then?
L.S.D Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Hmmm...hard to tell. Neo Geo games has been really popular at my country and Singapore. You can expect seeinga KOF machine (no matter which year) in every arcade here.Atomiswave kinda slowing it down though (must be the price of the board)
Agozer Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 A long time ago, when we still had arcades over here, Neo-Geo was the shiz. Since I'm not much of an arcade player, I never played in the Arcades. The first time I played a real arcade Neo-Geo was in a small grocery store not far from my house (Metal Slug), and later in Mallorca (Samurai Shodown). I think we had our own Neo-Geo Land back when SNK was marketing it in Europe, but I don't remember ever visiting there. The loading times were only in Neo-Geo CD. The original AES had a strong following, but many kids weren't able to get it thanks to the insane pricetag.
Gryph Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I don't think I'll be able to score one of these today. Damn, there goes my plan.
ken_cinder Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Isn't launch day tomorrow anyway? Midnight tonight for some places?
ken_cinder Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I love how launch is done on a Tuesday though. This means these people have the best chance of getting one. #1: People who work nights (Mind you I'd want to go home and sleep, and if you work midnights......you miss midnight launches) #2: People on the welfare (I'd be willing to bet many of these people will spend their check on a 360 roofles) #3: Stay at home soccer moms buying one for their kids #4: Morons losing a days pay, to take the day off to buy a 360. (Wheres the "YOU ARE AN IDIOT!" website?) For the rest of us who work during the day, it's a big "FLOCK YOU!" Why the hell wouldn't you launch on a Friday?Good thing I'm not stupid enough to ever pay launch prices for a console anyway.
