Lucandrake Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 That is sad, my 8th grade science teacher had a thought (she's a big science freak and used to work in marine bioligy) , that everyone that predicts how the world ends it usually end with the world etheir being super cold, or super hot.
Wizard Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I want cold fusion!<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Word Ayyy-geeee. There should be one immortal, to tell stories of what she/he's seen. Immortals make the best story tellers.
Gryph Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I would only like this immortal business if the world became like Highlander.

Skythe Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 To achieve Immortality, you must believe in Mike Patton/g0d.
Agozer Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I sadlky never have seen highlander <.>Christopher Lambert: "There can be only one!"
taratata Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Immortality would probably lead to insanity. Consider all the things a human has to endure during a normal lifetime; a few centuries of these would make anyone crazy. On a genetic level, the shortening of telomeres probably has a purpose. If we were to use telomerases as a way of extending life, we should also find a way to prevent mutations of somatic cells, at least for the critical genes. To put it shortly, I'd hate to be immortal.
Gryph Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 It's impossible to prevent mutations since almost everything is a mutagen. You're right, we'd live forever but we'd be filled with tumors!
Gryph Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 I don't know. I'd like to die sometime. I'd like to live for a while but not forever. Unless my age is frozen in my prime sexual stage, then I want to live forever.

Except if it made you really ugly; being really ugly, stuck in one's prime sexual age and immortal would be the most horrible torture.

To me it means just living forever, not necessarily meaning u can't die or be hurt. But ya, living forever with genital herpes or something doesn't sound too appealing.
