Mag Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 http://www.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/diet.fitnes...y.ap/index.html Within the future, I think we had a chance at it, I don't say it's impossible, looks like it can be done, but not for zany years.
Jjangthekid Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I think hes crazy >.> Thats just way over the limit. With immortality what'll happen to the population? Without any decrease, earth would be overpopulated.
Gryph Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 It actually may be possible to extend human life for a while if the telomere theory theory turns out to be correct. Studies have shown that scientists have been able to keep cells alive indefinitely by adding telomerases to DNA.

Mag Posted February 19, 2005 Author Posted February 19, 2005 at least this is better than Alex Chiu's immortality device
Megaman Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I've learned not to click links posted on forums regardless if they are meaningful or not...
Bluestinger X Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 the idea is stupid.. ofcourse population would get to high and such. The only people who would be able to do this would be extremely rich.. most likely world leaders and such and that would be hell.. some damn world leader living forever... they live long enough as it is lol. so anyways why even tease the thought? you will never be able to use it.
OverlordMondo Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Immortality is something that is probobly attainable, but shouldn't be attained. Except for me.
Gryph Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I've learned not to click links posted on forums regardless if they are meaningful or not... <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yes! Staying ignorant is a great thing! No need to broaden your horizons! the idea is stupid.. ofcourse population would get to high and such. The only people who would be able to do this would be extremely rich.. most likely world leaders and such and that would be hell.. some damn world leader living forever... they live long enough as it is lol. so anyways why even tease the thought? you will never be able to use it.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Some people are so chauvanistic about this kind of stuff. Why does everyone just automatically assume that immortality stuff will be used on humans? Why not plants? What about having an apple tree that lives forever and bears good fruit always? There are more applications than just human immortality. But yes, if people lived forever, Thomas Malthus' idea of geometric population growth would be true, we would use all the world's resources and die out. Even though that's probably going to happen anyway because we live longer have significantly less infant mortality rates than his time.
Agozer Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Why does everyone just automatically assume that immortality stuff will be used on humans? Most likely because people humans are the ones who are so desperately reaching for immortality throughout history.
Gryph Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 humans don't deserve immortality <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yeah. Humans need to get off our high horse as a species and stop thinking that we are somehow seperate from the rest of the organisms on this planet. And now to quote someone very special to me.Here's another question I have. How come when it's us, it's an abortion, and when it's a chicken, it's an omelette? Are we so much better than chickens all of a sudden? When did this happen, that we passed chickens in goodness. Name 6 ways we're better than chickens. (SILENCE) See, nobody can do it! You know why? 'Cause chickens are decent people. You don't see chickens hanging around in drug gangs, do you? No, you don't see a chicken strapping some guy into a chair and hooking up his nuts to a car battery, do you? When's the last chicken you heard about come home from work and beat the crap out of his hen, huh? Doesn't happen, 'cause chickens are decent people.
Lucandrake Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 lol chickens gryph come oN!! I get the story tho , humans really don't desserve immortality, and if were going to achieve it, I suggest we find ways of fixing our ozone layer (greenhouse effect) , finding a decent energy supply (by the time we ran out of fossi fuel all the immortal people will begin there imoortal lives) , and a new planet to move to because I know that us loosing the human die rate will increase the population by....alot...well this is how I see it, and this problems are true, and gryph, my science teacher tought me all that, so you can't say I don't know what im talking about.
Gryph Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Neither of those things are going to happen for a while. The only one that might is the alternate energy and we definitely need one.
