  4. The Emulation64 Network reports that Goomba Color, an open source Nintendo GameBoy/GameBoy Color emulator for the Nintendo GameBoy Advance, has been released. This emulator was created for use with the Nintendo GameBoy Micro and DS. Below are the release notes.

    Here it is, an early possibly-buggy alpha version of Goomba Color. Savestates are broken.

    Mario Golf works great!

    Double Speed mode was added, then removed because Double Speed means Double CPU Usage, and ran at Half Speed for most games. Then there's Pokemon Card Game, which runs at normal speed only when Double Speed mode is on.

    Sorry Chishm, Conker's Pocket Tails is not yet supported.

    You can see the official post at Pocket Heaven here, or simply download it here. There is also a Wiki for Goomba Color here.

  5. AEP Emulation Page reports that EightyOne, the Sinclair ZX80/ZX81 and Jupiter ACE systems emulator for Microsoft Windows, has been updated to version 0.42e. This version is a test build only, and below are the changes in this version (quoted from AEP Emulation Page).

    - Preliminary TZX tape format support, still very buggy though.

    - Fun feature - emulated RAM

    - Pack wobble (Press Ctrl-F12 for chuntey on demand).

    - New hardware, DK´Tronics Graphics ROM (Thanks to Simon Holdsworth for dumping this).

    You can visit the official homepage of EightyOne here, or simply download the latest test build here.

  6. Emu#dreams reports that Charles MacDonald has been working on adding hardware support to MAME. Below is what he has posted on his homepage.

    Some information is needed about the M37702 MCUs used in various Namco games. If anyone can help, the following needs to be determined:

    - Which games use the C71, C72, or C73 chips.

    - Which games use the C77 (or higher numbered) chip.

    What we know so far is:

    C69  = World Court Tennis (NA-1)

    C70  = Quiztou (NA-2)

    C73  = Found on a test board, but used in any games?

    C74  = System 22

    C75  = NB-1 and NB-2

    C76  = System 11

    In the interim I've been examining the BIOS and working on a better trojan as well as figuring out how hardware on the MCU side works.

    You can visit Charles MacDonald's homepage here.

  7. AEP Emulation Page reports that DeSemuME, the Nintendo DS emulator for Microsoft Windows, has been updated to version 0.0.2. Below is what yopyop posted on the official DeSemuME message boards.

  10. Emu#dreams reports that development for RockNES is underway now. Fx3 announced last night on the RockNES forums that he's officially started working on RockNES again, after a busy personal schedule. Below is a quotation of the RockNES-related paragraph in his post.

    Restarted my works on RockNES. I'm playing the PPU tests so... debugging is in progress. Actually, 2 of 7 tests are OK. Basically, it's NMI and VBlank timing related. Plus, it seems the PPU rendering can be optimized... o.O but I have no clue (yet) the procedure showed up in NESdev. :);; More to come soon.

    You can see the post for yourself here. Be sure to check the official homepage here in the coming days/weeks.

  11. Emu#dreams reports that recently the topic of Project64 updates came up at EmuTalk.net. Below is what a Project64 team member had to say about it.

    hmmm.. well yes, just do not know when, do not expect it any time soon tho. I am planning to release frequently to the people who have donated for testing. But publicly, I want a lot more done and it a lot better before I would even consider looking at a public release. I think you would be extremely lucky to see a public release before the end of 2007, but you never know. There is a chance that 1.6 will get a couple of little bug fixes.

    You can see the post for yourself here, and the official homepage of Project64 is here.

  12. AEP Emulation Page reports that BeebEm, the multi-platform BBC Micro and Master 128 emulator, has been updated to version 3.1 beta 4. Below are the changes in this version.

    - Added econet emulation. Still a few issues to iron out, it does not work in Master 128 mode yet but the Acorn level 1 file server software works in Model B mode. Note that the default DFS ROM in Model B mode has been changed to the Acorn DNFS ROM. (Note also that TORCHNET works using the Torch Z80 Co-Processor)

    - Added some more command line options. The hardware model and tube support can be specified on the command line. See the notes in readme.txt.

    - Fixed default read value for IO pages FRED and JIM. Fixes graphics corruption in tape version of Alien 8.

    - Fixed bug in video emulation where it was attempting to display one too many lines causing visual artifacts (thanks to Phil Sainty for highlighting this one).

    - Added SCSI ADFS Hard Disc support

    - Added SASI Torch Z80 Hard Disc support

    - Removed IDE support as no longer needed

    - Added Acorn ADFS 1.3 ROM to Model B and B Plus modes so SCSI hard disks can be used.

    You can visit the official homepage here, or simply download it here.

  13. Emu#dreams reports that MSieve has been publicly released. Below is a quotation of information about MSieve taken from its official homepage.

    MSieve is a little application which loads a MAME-style XML file (in other words, the output of "MAME -listxml") and allows you to filter out games based on a configurable filter. Then you can save the resulting list in various formats.

    Features

    - Easy usage (less than 150 lines of documentation, if you wanna read).

    - Fast XML parsing (2-3mb per second in my ghetto PC) and hyperfast filtering.

    - Filtering by screen type, orientation, number of buttons or players, and type of controls.

    - Special support for filtering by cocktail (incomplete due to MAME limitations).

    - Four saving formats: MAME32 ini folder, Raw list, Title list, and Tab-delimited text file.

    Although the application is not polished, I'm releasing it now as a 'public testing version'. Maybe in a near future, I'll add a couple more features and some polishment. Until then, MSieve works and can be used without problem.

    You can visit the official homepage here, or simply download it here.

  14. retroguru.com reports that Gens32, the multiple Sega console emulator for Microsoft Windows, has been updated to "Surreal" v1.49 Beta 2. Below are the changes in this version.

    - Can play back CDDA stuff with Direct Show. (I leave an opion to switch between MPG123 and Direct Show).

    - Auto speed up when loading SEGA CD. Still some problems when playing movies or caused a crash.

    - Added tow sound playback mode.

    - Rewind the menu to the old mode. akm1989 sent me 2 backgrounds, it's very nice, thanks.

  15. retroguru.com reports that DSEmu, the open source Nintendo DS and Nintendo GameBoy Advance emulator for Microsoft Windows, was updated yesterday. Only the source code was released however for this version. Below are the release notes.

    Happy new year and that. I decided that with the new year should come a new burst of working on this 'ere emulator, so I decided to delve back into the code. I've stopped progress on the dynarec project, it being too massively large to handle at this time. Instead, I've pushed on with the other major missing part of the emulator; DS graphics.

    The first task, of course, is to handle that strange VRAM banking business. I believe that, with a set of hacks implemented today, most of that is up and running; there are likely to be rather a few bugs in that implementation, of course, as with most parts of this emulator, but the substance of the mapping is there. There are a few things missing, like the WRAMCNT register, but they should be along in short order.

    With the current codebase, you still won't see any output on the screen, since there is no renderer of any kind in the GPU code at the moment. However, I've confirmed that at least the one demo I have to test does indeed write to VRAM, and in the right place, so something must be working correctly. I guess the next step is to actually render something, to get some output from the DS side of the emulator.

    As ever, you can grab the latest source, and possibly vomit over the hackery of the GPU, at the URL below.

    Oh, yeah. First release of '06! Let's hope that heralds a period of productivity on this thing.

  16. Emu#dreams reports that MAME CENTER, the brand new graphical MAME32 Plus! front-end (Japanese/English), has been updated to version 0.01. Below are the changes in this version (quoted from Emu#dreams).

    - If it is going to go to the left of the top stage and is going to go to the left further, it will correct that an error comes out.

    - It is except the right-hand side bottom, and if it is going to go to the right further, it will correct that a character sits down.

    - After pushing [Z] or one button of a joy pad in front of a money-changing machine and displaying a message, if [Z] or one button of a joy pad is pushed further, it will correct that an error comes out.

    You can visit the official homepage of MAME CENTER here, or simply download it here.
