Unknown 8080 based Space Invaders clone (Shuttle Invader by Omori?)
I was able to get a good read of the ROMs from the PCB shown below with a little creative heating from my heatgun. We still don't know the game name though, there's no title on screen. Anyway, Dox says it's now fully playable

You can find out more information here.

  3. Emu#dreams reports Dave Widel has posted on his homepage about his work on MAME. With the year ending, everyone is taking time to acknowledge just how much progress was made in MAME. Below is what Dave Widel had to say about this year's work.

Well everyone's putting up lists of what they accomplished this year. I spent most of my time babysitting but still managed to accomplish a couple of things. High score kits for Pacman, Bootleg Ms Pac, Jr Pacman, Galaxian, Make Trax, and Black Tiger. All of them 100% legal no copyrighted original code included. The Mad Pac and Exidy 440 kits are finished. On the unreleased side I have a working, nearly completed system 1 kit which I've shelved until some interest turns up and I have serveral more projects designed waiting for me to order prototypes.

As far as mame goes I still did a little coding, but not much. Added drivers for Noah's Ark, Super Missle Attack, Wonderboy System 2, and definately the most exciting thing this year was talking to the original programmer of Star Fire and adding support for Star Fire II. A game that he says made it into production at the very end of the sales of Star Fire I, possibly they went overseas, but no one had even heard of a sequel being made.

As you may know my specialty is decryption, but it was pretty quiet in that area. I helped a couple of devs on a few things but I don't think I really did anything this year. Those days are pretty much over, I think there's only a few 8 bit games left to be decrypted. No one seems to be able to locate boards for them so it's possible it's too late and the batteries have already died.

You can visit Dave Widel's homepage here.

    December 26th, 2005 - Semicom Baseball Game

I’ve added support for another Korea only game, this time it’s a Baseball game from SemiCom.

SemiCom are IMO the best of the Korean developers.

  13. The people over at SDLEmu have released WIP source of version 0.2 of Handy/SDL (the SDL port of the Atari Lynx emulator: Handy). You can visit the official homepage here, or simply download it here.

Handy/SDL version 0.1 has also been ported to the GP2x, calling it: HandySDL2x. This port was done by XTale, and reportedly because of speed issues, the source code was altered to render directly to the GP2x's frame buffer. You can visit the official homepage of HandySDL2x here, or simply download it here.

  15. Emu#dreams reports that an AGEMAME source patch for version 0.102u5 of MAME is now available here. There is also a new post on the AGEMAME32 homepage, seen below.

You may be aware that AGEMAME has a little system in place to try to visualise what’s going on inside the machine. What we do at present is draw the VFD readouts and the stepper motor positions onto the screen. What may not have been clear is that, in order to express the values correctly, we hacked into the MAME UI, and used the font data as if it was a regular set of graphics tiles.

This was a very bad thing to do - particularly in terms of system stability.

In version 0.30, however, we’ve received a submission that goes some way to correcting this, by telling me how it’s actually supposed to be done.

This is fairly different from how it is now, but hopefully it should fix a few issues people have on a multi-session basis.

Although I haven’t done much work on using this engine with the other titles as yet, by the time you’ll see it, you probably won’t be able to tell the difference.

You can visit the official homepage of AGEMAME32 here for more news and patches.
