  1. And over populated and have wings that don't want foriengers to enter. This sounds just like the America I live in.... Granted, there are a few tracts of unpopulated land in the states, but most of it isn't anyplace anyone would ever want to live. Mostly we just put our native americans there.
  2. Nevermind: K' posted while I was typing this.. I must have missed the train here. It doesn't look like there's going to be a whole lot of new content to enjoy, but I haven't read anything that makes it sound any worse than any of the older KOFs, which I still enjoy a great deal. It's a shame that they didn't make a stonger first attempt on the new hardware, but it's probably more of a tech-demo for them. What did I miss that makes everyone, or at least K', so hard on this game?
  3. Even comics writers complain about this, it's really hard to tell meaningful stories with a hero that's basically invincible. That said, they didn't really think too hard about that years ago, when they made him to stand for everything he's supposed to stand for. For a long time, he did that job really well. Nowadays, when heroes are all tragic, a soap opera, or the underdog, good ol' Superman is old fashioned and hard to work with. I think he's a good character that's served his purpose, but his heyday is almost over without a blasphemous overhaul. DC went a better route and re-created him for modern fans with Smallville. I've never seen it, but I've heard good things from many people who wouldn't be caught dead reading "kiddie comic books," and comic fans alike. That tells me they're doing something good.
  4. Looks like I'm going to totally miss this, as I'm on my way out the door. Anyone recording it?
  5. So did '98 if I remember correctly. But that was a dreammatch, wasn't it? Yeah, Team USA. The football player was Brian Battler or something like that. Heavy D was my favorite fighter from that team. He's gonna be a sight to sore eyes if we ever see him again. I miss him, why wasn't he in SVCC to go against Bison. I think you answered your own question there. It would be cool for us, but you can only sneak so many boxers past marketing.
  6. Basically, yeah. I'll throw in my vote for Firefox, but keep IE handy (and updated!) just incase. I've found a few sites that Firefox choked on, or that needed so many plug-ins that I'd rather just view them in IE real quick. And unless you repartition way too often, I wouldn't worry about Norton Partitioner. As for the firewall, go get a decent router, they're the same price as software firewalls these days.
  7. I was speaking more in terms of content than speed. The "realistic" military shooter is getting worn out, especially after working in a game store and seeing all the crap that gets released that people just eat up. But, I've heard so many good things about this one that I'll give it a shot. Another UT mod I just checked out was Alien Swarm. I'd heard good things about it and they weren't unwarranted. It's a little bit like diablo meets the aliens movies (ok, a LOT like the aliens movies) with a little bit of Space Hulk thrown in, but it's fun. Air Buccaneers scores more points with me for being creative and crafting a unique experience, but Alien Swarm is well put together and worth a shot.
  8. I use a couple of (or even 4, on occasion) gamepad pro USBs and they work fine. Make sure you plug both of them in, one at a time, before you load up the emu. Also, make sure you go into the controls screen and double-check that both players are set to joysticks 1 and 2, some emus will re-set to the default keyboard if you run the program without a joystick plugged in even once. Also, I don't know about other controllers, but with the Gamepad Pros you're better off using the default win XP drivers than the ones from Gravis' site. The ones they had just screwed things all up. Along these lines, the first thing you should do is make sure they're both working in the game controllers section of the control panel.
  9. Sweet! You'll have to post pics of the work in progress too. Oh, and go nab the smallest lego set you can find with a few clear bricks to put your lights behind.
  10. KOF '94 had a football player in it...
  11. Someone just got fired. Edit: Awesome: it "responds instantaneously to touch input."
  12. I haven't tried red orchestra yet, just because it struck me as another counterstrike/action quake clone. They were fun for the first, what? Four years? But I'm hankering for something new. Hehehe... But yeah, Air Buccaneers is fun. It has that "easy to learn, hard to master" feel in about the right proportions. It would be a blast with more people, but most of the servers are empty.
  13. I heard about this mod a while ago but just got around to testing it out. It's actually pretty sweet. It's kind of like old-school naval combat, but with flying hot-air-balloon airships instead of seafaring ships. Ideally, you've got multiple teammates on one airship, piloting, manning the cannons, defending against enemy attacks, etc. Manuevering an airship takes some practice, just like it would in a naval ship, but is rewarding, tactically and just for fun, once you get the hang of it. The graphics are all pretty good, but there are still some missing animations in the beta. The ships have a cool "pieced together" look to them. Boarding is a good way to take over an enemy airship, using your sword to hack down enemy crew and "comandeering" their ship. You have a rope that you can use to suspend yourself beneath an airship to assist with this "swashbuckling" or just to save your arse from a fall. You can also leave airmines (kind of like fireworks that stay in the air, and look really cool going up) in the sky to hinder your opponents' progress. Sacks of gunpowder can be thrown onto enemy ships, blasting away vessel and crew. You also have a musket, which is best used as a kind of flak, to blast away airmines and incoming cannonballs. Oh yeah, and you have cannonballs, which are loaded into your ships guns and are the main way of taking down opponents. For fun, try loading a gunpowder sachtel or an airmine into a cannon instead of a ball. There aren't a ton of people playing this online at the moment, but considering it's still in beta (the first full release is due out this month), it's doing pretty good. I would recommend getting the pre-release and playing it on the official test server. You'll want to download the beta 4.1 UMOD off the main site and install that first, then download the 1.0 pre-release and unzip it into your UT2004 directory, using "yes to all" when asked about overwriting. It will only write to the AirBuccaneers directory, so you won't lose keybindings or anything. Website (get Beta 4.1 here): http://ludocraft.oulu.fi/airbuccaneers/ You can get the 1.0 pre-release here (also a list of known bugs): http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~reactor4/phpB...topic.php?t=505 If you have any problems, check this thread at their forum: http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~reactor4/phpB...topic.php?t=261 Or you can ask me, but I can't gaurauntee I can help. Download it and come join the 1.0 server from the server browser. It's more fun than playing with bots!
  14. It's a matter of stolen intellectual property. You can't just go and make a Street Fighter game and include Ken and Ryu and a slightly modified logo and expect it to be "legal" without Capcom's backing, even if you aren't commercializing it. At least not in the states. It's not like a total conversion because those use the mod-author's intellectual property. It's been a while since an ambitious mod based on someone else's property has been released. Something with a few minor "borrowed" elements might get through, because that typically isn't going to hurt the property owner any. That said, those screens piqued my interest, and I didn't even like Chrono Trigger particularly. A "cease and desist" doesn't mean that Square hasn't taken an interest in the project. Potentially, this could mean a product nearing completion with a minimal production cycle for Sqenix, and a chance for the developers to have their names attached to a Sqenix game. Not a bad deal either way. It's just guesswork, but it could happen.
  15. Try this Agoz: mms://wm2.streaming.ne.jp/namco/sequenceacop_04-1.wmv Nice find.. But, what's tekken w..? Just watch it...
  16. I thought the tekken series was infamous for time-based unlocks?
  17. I've never had a real use for the Universe BIOS, what practical application does it have that I'm missing?
  18. These are all tough, but here goes: Favourite Superhero: Spidey, possibly Vertigo's Sandman if he counts, Story or Rags from The Foot Soldiers (AIT/Planetlar) Favourite Villian: Venom (before Larsen's fangs and drool got out of hand), or The Joker Favourite Superhero Movie: The recent Spider Man 1 for being as true to the books as Hollywood would allow, and doing it well ('cept maybe for GG). Worst Superhero Movie: Daredevil, for turning decent characters into drivel. Worst Character: The mess they've made of Venom. Lots of bad DC characters from the early 90's. Upcoming Hopefull Movie: Any of the Marvel stuff I guess. I'm hoping DD was a fluke and they've finally got the idea. Update: Favorite Superhero Website: http://www.samruby.com/
  19. Meh, the bouncer probably would have been boring as heck with a "story" more than 10 pages long. As it is, it is an interesting twist on what is more or less a dead genre. I don't know what was planned for it, but the RPG elements come in the form of character move ugprades. You can basically "buy" special moves, which vary between the three (I think?) characters, with points earned through the game. I'm pretty sure the "story" also branches depending on who you pick for different portions of the game, as it will let you switch at certain junctions. It was pretty neat, but I thought the character progression was pretty static and boring. They could have made the upgrades much more interesting just by including multiple "branches" of each character's tree, and it wouldn't have detracted from the old-school beat 'em up feel.
  20. I'm pretty sure EGCG runs the one with the larger gfx file just fine
  21. K`anon man do not approve of stories within dream matchs. Yes yes, I understand.
  22. Oooh, forgot about that one.. I'll call it a close second.
  23. If they've already established that it's a dream match, who really cares if there's a story or not? Any story they come up with will still fall under the "dream" category of things that are entertaining, but don't "really" happen. Heck, at this point, anything that has any chance of keeping anyone entertained with 2D fighters, and doesn't affect the character designs or gameplay, is ok by me.
