  1. No offense, but I think you're getting the two mixed up... Based on 2K2: -Both of them have the Argentina Backbreaker. Clark also has a super version and can follow-through on the regular special, making it more useful for him. -By "That funky kick thing" I can only assume you mean the Frankensteiner, where Clark jumps into the air and kicks forward, grabbing the opponent with his legs if he's close enough. Ralph does have the "Ralph Kick" but it's not a grab move so far as I know (It looks kind of like Cammy's Cannon Drill motion). -Clark has the "tackle and follow up" as the staple of his moveset, while Ralf only has the "Tackle and Punches" as a super move. Aside from the backbreaker (which is kind of the ikari signature throw) and the super grapples (his "super-super" is also a tackle and punch), Ralf has no other special grapples, but he does have 6 other stiker-type moves and a "combo-style" super. By contrast, all five of Clark's specials are throws, all but one of which can be followed up on, and he has an air throw, and at least two grappling supers, I'm not sure on his other two.
  2. I don't think they'd "give up" a trained bear like that. It would take a lot of work to train a bear to dig into coolers and drink only a certain kind of beer, and the cost of basically "throwing away" all that work back into the wild would be crazy. It sure does sound like a marketing stunt though. While we're on conspiracies, there was a pizza hut (chain pizza restauraunt) in this strip mall in my town which was there for years. One day, a little mom and pop type pizza/italian place openned up in the same strip mall. Within the same month, the pizza hut burnt down.
  3. Depends on what kind of popups you're talking about. If you mean web-browser popups while you're browsing the web, then yeah, you need a popup blocker (or you could just use FireFox instead of IE, or get XP service pack 2, which is supposed to add blocking to IE). If you're getting funky popups that look sort of like system messages, you need to disable the windows messaging service (I think that's what it's called). Adaware has a plug in on the lavasoft site that will do this for you. And if you're getting web-browser popups while you're not browsing the web, you've got some mean adware in there. Get behind a firewall or run adaware's "ad-watch" or a similar "aware" type program.
  4. This is only partially true. Defragging only really affects the effective speed of your hard drive(s), and then only if it is heavily fragmented. However, if your hard drive IS heavily fragmented, maybe because you'd been moving and copying and deleting large files all day, defragging could speed it up considerably, effectively speeding up your entire system because it won't have to wait for the slowed-down hard drive. This is especially true when you're installing new programs which frequently access different files on the hard drive, such as many newer games like Doom 3. If they end up all nice and neat in one spot on the disk, they're likely to run a little smoother. That said, any speed "gained" is really just "recovered." You're not going to be any faster than you would be if you hadn't fragmented your drive in the first place. You're not overclocking or anything.
  5. No, the graphics weren't as good as the Saturn versions, but this was a generation behind those games! For 3D graphics on what amounts to an overpowered genesis, this game looked pretty good! Here's my review: They took Virtua Fighter and turned it into a 32X game. It's as true to the arcade experience as they could probably manage on this console. The gameplay, while possibly just a tad slower, is almost perfect. There is an interesting "style" mode as well, kind of a pre-cursor to Kumite mode that ranked you based on your style.. The graphics and sounds are not as good as the arcade's, but are as good as any other 3D game on the 32X. They also added several new (at least, new from VF1 arcade) color variations for each character. You might look at it as a way to make money off the license (which has never been huge in the US), but I think of it almost as a service to us kids who didn't have a Saturn at the time (when they were still new and really expensive). This game meant 32X owners could play the game they loved without shelling out for a pricey next-gen system, and the only real drawbacks were merely aesthetic; limitations of the hardware that were already well known. For a system that barely compares to the power of the real arcade machine, this port came out extremely well.
  6. On the other hand, one more ambiguous character like Ash just might I never really considered Leona a boobie character though..
  7. I'd miss 'em.. They're signature characters at this point, and they have interesting movesets.. Well, Clark and Leona do, I always thought Ralph was kind of boring. Leona, Clark and Whip, now there's a neat team... Oh yeah, and where the heck did you hear this craziness? Or is asking that just taboo?
  8. That's cool! Like Yoshi's Box on a budget, with some "artistic" flair!
  9. Yes, I think Akuma is the ugliest fighting game character ever. Zangief, on the other hand, is easily topping People's next "beautiful" list.
  10. My uncle had a lynx and it rocked! I liked the version of gauntlet it had, some slimeworld-type game, and two of the flight sim games.. One was a modern jet fighter, Blue Lightning maybe? The other was a Red Baron type deal, I don't remember the name. They were simple, but fun, and I seem to remember the sound being excellent for an old school handheld.
  11. Better off reading one indeed. `97 was just the end of the Orochi Arc. Yeah, you're right, but it's the first New Face part of it.. So we'll call it: Plot Arc 1: Orochi -Sub Arc 2 (or 3): The New Face Team
  12. Yeah, this was basically what I got from the FAQs. To me, this boils down to "I'm Ryu, but I'm buff enough to break mountains and I won't hesitate to kill you if you get in the way (of my training)." Contrast this with Bison's unique set of abilities (allowing the cliched goals of ultimate-power and world-domination to cancel each other out) and Gouki just looks bland.. And yeah, if he wasn't a big deal around here I wouldn't care, but every third person has used this guy almost exclusively since he appeared in the Alpha series where I'm at. I can only watch so many shoto vs. shoto matches before I go insane.
  13. What's the canon story? All the canon guides I checked pretty much said "he's trained to be so powerful that he's lost his humanity" in a greater number of words. And what country is "here?" He's easily a fan fav where I'm at. And yeah, I think Ken is the most balanced.
  14. If you're interested in story, '97 is probably the best of the three, as it introduces the New Face Team (or New Band Team) story arc. But really, you're better of just reading a story FAQ. You'd have to beat it with every odd combination of characters to get any real depth out of the story anyway. Now, if you're interested in gameplay, I'd say start with '98. I started with that one and it's still one of my favorites. The character lineup is just about perfect for a new player. It has all of the mainstay characters of the series, the newer ones that you'll want to be familiar with, and even brings back a few characters that oldschool fans of the series will be familiar with (USA Team anyone?). This puts you on pretty solid ground for recognizing 95% of the characters in the series so far. It's important to note that the KOF games move in "story arcs," and that "story" characters seem to come and go from the series. The New Face Team, for example, introduced in '97, is gone in '99, replaced by the Hero Team characters that will be prevalent in the next few games. However, every few games a "Dream Match" game is released where lost or deceased characters return. In 2002, for example, the New Face Team returns. So, it's good to be well-versed in even the older characters. Plus, they're fun.
  15. Is there a way to modify a game's dipswitch type settings in MAME32 like you can in NeoRagex? Such as difficulty, blood, etc? I tried to google for this information and can't find it anywhere.
  16. Oy, she'd be hot if it didn't look like she'd been zombified already. Not exactly at her most flattering I don't think.
  17. I'll see if I can answer these right... There will probably be a KOF2K4, etc, but it now depends on the people that have contorl of the license: SNK/Playmore. I think Sammy Studios (which is now basically Sega) has some kind of rights to it all too, can someone clarify this mess? I want to say I heard a rumor about SVC2, but don't quote me on that. Capcom is currently collaborating (at least, last I heard) with Sammy Studios for a Capcom Vs. Sammy game. If this turns out well, and if the SNK/Playmore properties ARE actually tied to Sammy somehow, we'll probably see some more crossover stuff in the future. And SVC Chaos played differently because it was handled by "the other side." Capcom handled CvS 1 and 2, so those play a little more like capcom games (I'd say). SVC was handled by the SNK/Playmore side, which is why SNK is before Capcom in the name, and they took it in their own direction. How'd I do?
  18. I saw it now. Very wicked and original. I like it. Though one of the sexiest things I've seen is Millia Jovovich in nothing but a towel and a SMG in hand. YES! Is this for the RE2 movie? I must know!
  19. Thraxen is right. In fact, the hardcore fanboys should quit whining because Tekken was never considered the pinnacle of twitch-skill fighters. Tekken is more of a casual fighting game (if such a thing is possible). I could understand the complaints if Street Fighter 3: Quadruple Damage came with a pad, but with Tekken anything that's good for arcades is good in my book. Thraxen does have a good point here. If it turns out to be anything but an especially nerdy oddity, it will probably have a positive effect on arcade business. I'm curious if it will have any effect on home sales, like if would-be home buyers will burn themselves out on it playing it in the arcades or anything. And Tekken 3 got pretty hardcore in my area. When it came out there was always a decent sized crowd of guys who knew all the 10-hit dial-a-combos standing around it. As for the customization stuff.. It's obvious someone at Namco played Virtua Fighter 4 in a Japanese arcade. The feature set is practically identical.
  20. As long as Vega/Bison uses a reasonable sprite, and not Alpha's Stay-Puff Bison, I'm happy.
  21. Wouldn't Battletoads be a beat 'em up and Dragon's Lair be a... umm.. something else? Just curious... The first thing that came to mind when I read the topic was Gunstar Heroes, although I guess it's only sort of a platformer. Super Mario World and Sonic 3 would be next.
  22. Only if it means "Soul-less Fanboy God" in Japanese. Not everyone uses akuma/gouki I would say Ken is the ultimate fanboy A hell of a lot of people use him Meh, it's more like Akuma (or Gouki, if you prefer) has far too large a following for what I see as a poorly designed, unoriginal character. Ken and Ryu are at least signature Street Fighter since day 1. It's just too easy to take their existing popularity, attatch the words "powerful" and "evil" to it along with a rather bland "All I care about is being stronger than you" back story and BANG, instant fan favorite.
  23. Only if it means "Soul-less Fanboy God" in Japanese.
  24. What is this? Did he make sounds for the game and then they weren't used in the final release?
  25. 2nd impact? wow. i always heard that 3rd strike was near perfect. very interesting While we're questioning your choices, why VF3 and not 4 or Evo? I like the whole series, I'm just curious..
