  1. Regarding Canada being a safe country or not, what about the apparent tensions and conflict between French speakers and English speakers? I heard people are in conflict over the issue of these two languages, more so than race in Canada. Either way, it's still very silly -- if not more. Confirmations K'dash?
  2. Out of curiosity, these arcades which knife-wielding thugs hang out at, are these in the ghettos or something? I'm getting this picture of a badly run, poor lit, smoke filled crummy little room with a few broken down arcade cabinets with drug dealing thugs as its regular customers. I wouldn't be surprised if this is true, considering how the arcades are in America. I got a friend (he's what some of you guys call a "hardcore gamer" lol) in the Navy; he was stationed in Japan for a while. From his report, the arcades there are just everywhere and it's doing great apparently. Competition can be found at any time of the day. Also, apparently there are "speciality arcades" catering to just Sega games, or KOF games, or Guilty Gear, or... you get the picture. From all reports of other gamers who've visited Japan, arcades here in the states are garbage...and apparently much of the attitudes toward arcades from gamers here in America are drastically different than the Japanese -- that is, people here have a negative attitude toward arcade gaming and/or generally video games.
  3. Wonderfully put. P.S. Vagrant Story turned out much better than I expected. Thanks for some of those infos.
  4. I'm a rat. A low-down dirty rat. Description may fit me somewhat, though I don't buy into this sort of crap.
  5. Obviously the word "fun" can be used in different ways for each individual, so I think when answering this it'd help if each person can define what they have in mind when they say "just to have fun." To me, the "fun" in playing fighting games comes from practice, losing matches and learning from them, and overall improving my gaming skills until I'm winning more and more matches consistently -- and of course, in order for any of this to happen, the vital ingredient: large numbers of quality competition needs to be there. (I mean, fighting games ARE competition games at heart.) So I have fun knowing that I am always learning and trying my best to improve; and it's a great feeling when you start winning more matches against quality competition, cuz that is a sign, an outward manifestation of your improvement. So yeah, it really helps to define "fun" for clarity sake.
  6. I know there is a decent amount of gamers here who are into fighting games. But what makes me curious is that it would appear many here (K'dash not included; I know he has written about Evo and tournies and such) are not into competition. In other words, some people for whatever reasons (valid or otherwise) are happy just playing fighting games by themselves or within their small circle of friends -- they don't seem to care about looking to face high level players or improving their gaming skills. Now all this makes me wonder: at its core, fighting games are competition games; without support and interest from gamers, any particular fighting game cannot survive very long. It is not like an RPG or some plateform game where it is a given that gamers play solo. IMO, you can only play against the computer for so long before it quickly becomes lame; and practicing in training mode becomes pointless if you'll never use what you've learned against human competition -- hopefully good ones, at that. (I hope all of this is making some sense so far.) So, excluding valid reasons like the fact that your nearest arcade may be thousands of miles away or you are missing some fingers, to those of you who are happy playing fighting games alone or within your small circle of friends, what enjoyment do you get from this? Wouldn't it be more fun to play some sports, RPG, or whatever solo game instead of a competition game like a fighting game? Personally, I play fighting games to meet and play against other players who share the same interest. That is, improving one's gaming skills, facing competition who are equally interested in improving their skills, hence as players improve, the level of competiton rises and this determines whether a particular fighting game has "support" from players and whether it survives or dies. At the heart of fighting games: number and quality of competition = fun, and without it, it does not survive. For example, I personally like Guilty Gear XX, but there is practically no support for it at my arcade. Everyone is just interested in MvC2 and CvS2. I can not stand MvC2, and CvS2 is bearly tolerable; and dispite my personal interest in Guilty Gear, I am going to abandon it and move on to CvS2 where there is competition. So...yeah, my questions are included in this post.
  7. School has definitely taken a toll on me. Fricking finals had me staying up till 5 in the morning -- and that was on more than one occasion. Glad that's all over. Time to get laid. Um... yeah, my pet peeve is when your folks start nosing in into your business (i.e. eavesdropping; questioning every little crap, etc.). But that's just one pet peeve out of countless.
  8. It's simply called X. http://www.animeacademy.com/library/xtv/xtv.html Edit: Damn! Agozer beat me to it! I think we were posting around the same time.
  9. I'll be the first one to unlock it. Mankind must be destroyed.
  10. Until there is some solid (and I mean SOLID) evidence that they do exist, I am indifferent as to whether they do exist or not. They may exist or they may not and until there is solid proof, everything is speculation IMO.
  11. It just seems that in most 3D fighters, the characters seem to lack creativity. Maybe they're just trying to make everything seem realistic, but much of the characters in 3D fighters just seem bland. :/ (Goh is pretty cool though.)
  12. I still haven't finished Vice City -- I'll get to it....someday. Edit: minor grammer error cuz I'm an editor in training.
  13. I know. I am trying to hook him up with her but when we talk all she wants to do is talk about me. Yes, and most likely you're flattered by this. Let's just be honest here. Anyhow, do what you want. If the consequences turn out favorable, then good. If not, then learn from it. (And I hope this thread doesn't go up to another 40+ pages.)
  14. I already know that. As far as I know #Reload is only being released for the X-box, while PS2 owners get a piece of garbage called: Guilty Gear Isuka. I'd like to know if there'd be a #Reload release for the PS2 WITHOUT having to import.
  15. You might be right ;D Fileplanet has 2 gameplay videos. The Xbox version and the PS2 version of it. Do you mean #Reload or Isuka?
  16. If it's really my last meal, I'd like to get stoned like hell before facing execution. So for my last "meal" I'd order some ice and maybe some coke -- but seeing as this is a prison... Yeah, basically, if I'm about to get executed, I'd like to go stoned.
  17. Violence in all forms produce more violence. What did people expect? I know many of us want to get away from all the brutalities and violence in the world, but unless we're willing to live as hermits in some deserted island, it'll have to be a part of life. People contribute and help perpetuate violence in all manners, so it escape from that, you'd have to get away from people.
  18. This game's crap. I wish PS2 was getting GG#reload and not X-box. X-box can take this garbage.
  19. I wish I can get excited about this game. I know it's still in development and all but from the screenshots so far, it just reminds me of CvS2 (just with DS characters and a few new characters thrown in). reused sprites = Capcom trademark (as much as people accuse SNK of the same) Meh... I think I'll stick with SF:TS, unless something drastically changes as this game develops. P.S. And why is it that there're still no screens of Sammy vs. Capcom? I know it's still in production but there's just like no news of it.
  20. You gotta look up the one with the guy on the home shopping network selling these cheap Katanas -- I think it's called "Knives" or something. He starts testing out the katana blade on the table and a tip of it breaks off hitting the guy in the arm or something like that. His reaction and comments are pure comedy, and since it was LIVE...
  21. Timeline. Yup, that's the one. Horrible movie, with one very lame yet funny scene. (Can't comment on the book though.) There was actually a videogame based on this worthless film?
  22. We may be on to something here. Maybe 1) avoid watching Fast and the Furious and 2) avoid seeing any movies in which any actors from Fast and the Furious is also in. P.S. Not trying to offend any fans of The Fast and the Furious -- I know there are tons of teens who just love this movie. It's just that I happen to not have the intellectual capacity to appreciate a movie so intricate, so deep. Yeah...
  23. It doesn't annoy me. I'm not bothered if I "missed out at the time." If I missed out, then I don't know I missed out, right? And if I find out I missed out, then I can always see for myself what the big deal is, so no problem there -- at least not for me. Yeah, I'm not bothered by it.
  24. In a way, you are in prison. Basically, if you depend on them for rent, support, whatever, then you are under their authority, and hence you may not have as much -- or any -- personal freedom as you'd want. As long as you live under their roof, you can't do much to stop them from meddling into your personal life, or verbally abusing you (as in my case LOL).
  25. Well if you've never seen it, then it's new to you, right? Anyhow, this is getting interesting.
