  1. Capcom is 1000x lazier than SNK. Look at how many SNK characters got real makeovers. Kyo is on his third drastic makeover, Terry Bogard's Garou outfit is intact for KOF2003, etc. How many Street Fighter characters got a makeover? Chun Li and....well, I guess that's it. Demitri from Darkstalkers got a makeover (see my avatar) and guess what? It wasn't Capcom to do it! Morrigan is still sporting her original extremely dated sprites to this very day. Maybe SNK will again take the initiative and do what Capcom fails to with every release. Look at how many times Terry Bogard got upgraded from Fatal Fury 1 to KOF2003. Compare that to any single Capcom character. Megaman's sprites get more attention than any fighting game character. As far as the SNK characters not being redrawn in SVC, that's the whole point. Capcom vs SNK was put out by Capcom, which is why Capcom characters were only given minor graphical touches while all the SNK characters resemble the Capcom style. Look at Terry or Kyo and all will be clear. The Capcom characters in CVS had more pallette changes than redraws. You don't need to worry about the game hardware. The next game is on Atomiswave. Maybe it'll look silky smooth like Guilty Gear X. The Guilty Gear visual style with SNK play mechanics would be the #1 fighting game. As long as the music doesn't resemble any of the Jazzpanese music from Capcom cames or has the annoying announcer guy yacking throughout the menus. I like these Capcom and SNK debates though. Other people chime in please.
  2. 2004 will. Anyways, at neogamez, this guy "ovnikey" claims to have the ROM. He gave a link but...of course...the site is a total 404. A few minutes later he offered to share it but only if people mailed him anime as payment. This guy had some credibility until he started with the payment request. He could be for real but nobody will believe him now that he's asking for compensation.
  3. Why not use two Nintendo Power Gloves? You can splice the NES controller connector to a parellel port cable and use it on your PC, so maybe you could interface the Power Glove. I totally think it's possible. But it would take a serious load of work to even attempt it. You'd have to retrofit the gloves though, unless they made versions for both hands.
  4. It's probably to handle bandwidth. Most "free to download" sites will get knocked offline within a half hour of a ROM like this getting released. Some sites have to pay extra if they go past their subscribed bandwidth limit. This could be a way to cover those costs...or scam people.
  5. LINK DELETED This site recently put KOF2003 up at the top of its game list. It used to be at the bottom with mslug5 and samsho5. Both mslug5 and samsho5 were put at the top when the ROMs were released. So possibly this guy's promise of his "friends" giving him the ROM is true? Anyone know if this site is legit?
  6. Silent Hill is easily the better of the two for the genre. Resident Evil has the "one-time shockers" where they give you a good scare the first playthrough but are nowhere near as frightening the second time through. Meanwhile, Silent Hill's scare factor comes from overall ambience (mainly sound) and never a particular scripted moment. That's why playing Silent Hill in your room at night with the lights out is as scary the 10th time as it was the 1st. It's rare when a game's sound defines it, especially in an age where visuals get top dollar. Both series are great, but Silent Hill sorta revolutionized the genre while Resident Evil is still stuck in the same hole. The least Capcom could do is get some decent voice actors to dub the lines. Capcom has the worst reputation for voice acting. Konami would have but were saved by Metal Gear Solid.
  7. I'll would support SNK more if they would sell home ports at an affordable price and on installed consoles, not requiring us to find an old Dreamcast and import titles. Or the NeoGeo which somehow still has the same high cost of ownership that it did upon launching. The new PS2 releases could be starting a trend, but SNK has to keep delivering or they'll end up going under again. Not because of emulation, but because of failing to please consumers. I emulate because there are no arcades around me, the NeoGeo isn't exactly easy to go out and buy, nor are the rediculously priced titles that run almost as much as an entire console off the shelf. I'm definitely getting KOF2000/KOF2001 once the Best Buy near me has one in stock. I'm stuck using Best Buy Reward Zone coupons, otherwise I'd just get it online. I also plan on getting both SVC and KOF2002, possibly KOF2003 towards next Fall when it may be released on the PS2. As far as Metal Slug 3, I hesitate to buy that particular releeas. They really needed to make a compilation pack like they did with KOF2000/KOF2001. Metal Slug 3 all by itself isn't worth the price. They needed to throw in at least one other Slug title. Maybe they will make an MSlug 1, 2 and X pack, then a 4 & 5 later on. As of now, Metal Slug 3 is too short and doesn't provide enough to warrant the asking price. $20 is the most that game should fetch considering what next-gen games offer for full price. All of the games listed above I emulate, and I intend on buying the PS2 ports anyway. Ports are all I've got, since arcades are going under left and right except in big major cities. Though anyone can find Galaga at every laundromat in the country.
  8. This thread has become a train wreck. As in repeatedly derailed to become a casual KOF conversation thread. Please only post things related to the ROM and it's status/release. Everytime someone responds, the thread gets shown on the forum hub as having a new post. A lot of us get our hopes up thinking the latest response is the public release. See what I mean? Here's some on-topic news: http://newdump.wwwpuntocom.com/
  9. Here's two ZD links that should help you out: http://www.zophar.net/zsnes/spc/ http://www.zophar.net/utilities/spc.html One is a FAQ for the format, one is a list of players.
  10. I thought they ran on Atomiswave. The same hardware SNK is reportedly releasing KOF2004 on to eliminate the possiblity of early emulation.
  11. I think he means it gets freqeuently derailed into another general KOF2003 conversation thread instead of its purpose: news about the ROM release.
  12. makru, I'm exactly like you. Longtime lurker, new participant, old Capcom fan who was seduced by SNK. Emulation got me into NeoGeo and SNK, because the arcade (yes, arcade singular) around me only carried old Sega and Capcom games before SF3 was released. Personally, to get back on topic, I'm also on the hunt for the Progear ROM. I've become a new Cave shooter fanatic since someone suggested I try Guwange.
  13. Hokutomaru from Garou is the one who is ill. Andy's disappearance is supposed to be because he's taking care of the little ninja kid.
  14. There's nothing wrong with the characters in any of these games. Especially GGXX. That's the whole point of GGXX: wild creativity. It sure as hell beats putting a new head on Ken or Ryu's body...or another Kyo clone.
  15. No, it's not a new Garou. They just mean it'll be garou.zip, not garoup.zip or garoun.zip (the other two versions). There are plenty of perfectly working Garou variations already, so this isn't a major accomplishment. They might as well be dumping Galaga. Garou is even supported by default in MAME. SNK is supposedly coming out with Garou 2 fairly soon though. Now that's some good news. I read that SNK is almost ready to announce a new non-KOF fighting game for 2004, and it's gotta be either Garou 2 or Last Blade 3. It'll probably be LB3 since it's been in development since 2000, while I've hear nothing regarding Garou 2.
  16. I think it's just a list of hit results. I remember stumbling there when looking for Metal Slug 5 last week. Half the links were on private FTP's anyway. And the kof2003 ones are either gameplay videos or the CTHD 2003 hack of KOF2001.
  17. it was there before ...it looks like it has been removed and i think that is wise as many will copy the driver and make compiles and then saying they have added the games when someone else did it in the first place . Actually, a hundred people could write their own drivers and they would be identical. There isn't much room for variation. Almost every driver comes through editing old drivers anyway, especially in the case of NeoGeo games. Personally, I write my own, but I did resort to a web search for that little bit of the init section for Metal Slug 5. That was the only game I've ever had trouble adding support for. Samurai Showdown 5 was a cakewalk in comparison. Literally an edit of the samsho4 driver.
  18. You can find mslug5 for Kawaks quite easily. Look for mslug5nd.zip with Google or Filemirrors.
  19. For me it was Castlevania III on Nesticle. I initially got into emulation to replace all the games I got ripped off trading in at Funcoland. I felt bad getting $3-5 for a game my parents bought me for $50 as a Christmas gift. Like Jungle Hunt for the Atari 7800. It's shocking that a game like Jungle Hunt went for the same price as today's average XBox game.
  20. [opinion] I think Street Fighter Alpha 3, although dated, had perfectly decent visuals. Sort of an anime twist instead of SF2's awkward semi-realistic sprites that SNK managed to perfect. That's why the new Street Fighter character graphics impress me less than the others. Capcom never cared to update sprites unless it was for a totally new series (or subseries in the case of SFA). While SNK would update little by little throughout a single series (Fatal Fury 1 --> Garou, KOF94 --> KOF2002, AOF1 --> AOF3, etc.) To Capcom's credit, they did update very little through the SF2 series, but it seemed like they just wanted to justify yet another SF2 semi-sequel instead of geniunely wanting to better the look of the game. Still, you've got character like Demitri from Darkstalkers who was pimping the same pixelated sprites for ages and now looks absolutely fantastic now. The menacing new art makes him look like a real vampire, while the old look is now like a bad K-Mart Halloween costume. It's a shame Morrigan and/or Lilith didn't make the cut, as they (specifically Morrigan) badly need a makeover. Just fire up a Morrigan vs. Whoever match in MVC2 and the sheer contrast is painful and, frankly, embarassing for Capcom. I hope Capcom gets enough feedback or complaints to warrant a totally new Darkstalkers or Street Fighter, not a crossover game but a dedicated one. As of now, SNK is looking to wipe them off the face of the earth, while Capcom rehashes games and creates mediocre 3D homages to games that were flawless in 2D (such as Maximo versus Ghouls and Ghosts). [/opinion]
  21. .bin 40.0 MB (42,042,009 bytes) for svc.zip 40.1 MB (42,064,112 bytes) for svcplus.zip The svcplus.zip I'm referring to is one with the boss unlock hack and PLUS removal.
