  1. I'm buying it anyway. The AC adapter, memory card, case, etc... is all stuff I planned to buy anyway. People comparing this to consoles and PC parts... ludicrous. This is a totally different sort of item... apples to oranges in those comparisons. This is why competition is good. You don't like the the PSP or it's price, you can buy the DS or stick to your GBA.
  2. I was looking at the vm.txt file and found that many games were listed twice and one was listed 3 times. I've removed all the duplicates and put everything in alphabetical order (makes it easy to find duplicates). You can get it here: vm.txt Also, I noticed that your version has the Force VMM option on by default. If you do this is the vm.txt ignored completely or are the values for games listed in the vm.txt used instead of the ones used in the Force VMM option? If it's ignored completely then I'm not sure that is the best way to do it since the values in the vm.txt are usually picked because they work the best for each game. Using the Force option, if the vm.txt is ignored, would then force each game to use the same settings whether or not those settings are actually the best settings for any one game. Anyway, for future reference, the easiest way to sort and manage the vm.txt is to copy the list and paste it into Excel. Then you can use the Sort option to have Excel automatically put everything in alphabetical order.
  3. Man, you DC fans never give it a rest. Sorry, but I owned a DC and thought it was over hyped by the hardcore fans. Sega has a knack for making highly rated games that, in reality, most people don't want to play. Soon as it died all the die hards came out of the woodwork and have practically raised it to sainthood. Spare me. Sega killed themselves. Period. It all started back with failures like the SegaCD and 32X. Then came the Saturn (another since over idealized system) with very poor advertising and a ludicrous $400 USD price tag. Yeah, I owned it too. Then along comes the PSX. It revived gaming. You anti-Sony types may claim it's a bad thing that gaming became more mainstream, but it is what funds the increasingly expensive to make games these days. Deal with it. The PSX was a great system and it earned its millions of fans. Meanwhile Sega had shot itself in the foot too many times by the time the DC launched and most people didn't give a damn. Sure, it had a great launch day... all the die-hard Sega fans showed up early, but after that it was downhill because the most gamers were willing to wait for Sony's next system. Again, Sony had earned those fans with a great performance with the PSX. So go ahead and cry all you want about how the Sony hype machine killed the DC, but keep in mind that Sega themselves are as much to blame for what happened and Sony had earned the hype.
  4. Yeah, I did that. I also added KoF2K4 at the same time and it appeared in the list just fine. And I did look down in the "The" and it wasn't there. Now, you say as long the ROMS are named properly, but that is my point! There was no DAT for the Crystal build so I have no idea if they are named correctly.
  5. OK, seriously, can someone post the details for a working crysking ROM? I know someone here must have it working. I just need to know the usual stuff... file names and CRCs. Again, I have a ROM and the BIOS, but it won't appear in my game list and the 10-01-05 Bender version of MAMEoX didn't come with a DAT to check.
  6. I've got that, but I still don't see it in my list. Something must be named incorrectly in my ROM. How many versions of this ROM are out there anyway? MAME can be such a PITA sometimes.
  7. Can someone here post the ROM info for The Crystal of Kings for Bender's version of MAMEoX. The 10-01-05 version didn't come with a DAT. I have the ROM, but it's not showing up in my list. Thanks!
  8. The one labeled "SRC" is the source code. You don't need that... it's for people who want to make additional changes and compile their own versions.
  9. Does the PSP not have any region checks?
  10. I actually use the composite rankings at GameRankings.com when looking into a game I'm unfamiliar with. I then read a couple... usually IGN and Gamespot... to get a feel for what they liked or didn't like. IGN tends to rate games higher than most other review sites, but I'm well aware of this going in. Anyway, the complaint about the lack of an analog stick is a common one and one that has a lot of merit. Read the review and you'll see what I'm talking about.
  11. I'm getting a PSP just because I'm sick of Nintendo owning the handheld market. The handheld market is boring and it's because one company has dominated for so long. Most of the games are total crap and the hardware has seen very slow improvement. Look how long it took Nintendo to get a f**king clue and add a light for the screen. Damn. And don't buy that battery life BS. All they would have to do is make an on/off switch for the lighting thus giving the user the option of using it and shortening battery life. It's not that hard to figure out. Most of the best games for the GBA are just NES and SNES rehashes. I don't give a sh*t about all those damned Pokemon games. But look what has happened now that Sony is trying to enter the market. Nintendo was finally forced to make a big leap in improving their hardware. But I still think they have managed to screw it up. The touch screen is just too gimicky. Now developers are being forced to try and use the touch screen as a replacement for a true analog stick (e.g. read the IGN review of Mario DS). That's just silly. I for one also can't stand fingerprints and scratches on screens of any kind, so there is no way in hell I could put up with touching the DS screen all the time. I'd just spend half my time wiping it down. So I plan to support the PSP if for no other reason than I want some serious competition for Nintendo in the market so that maybe the market will actually be exciting again.
  12. Are you sure you have all the game files arranged correctly on the HDD? Copying the files from several CDs just seems like it would increase the likelyhood a mistake was made. Have you done it that way before?
  13. Hey, that is a really nice looking skin. MAMEoX really could use a new skin. The old yellow and white skin is rather tired now. Also, what XBMC center skin is that? Is that one you have modified yourself?
  14. I think they may be talking about that "BenderMAMEBox" version of MAMEoX posted over at XBox-Sky. Sammaz referred to Sky a few posts back.
  15. The only reason any of this gets attention is because it's MS. Other developers have crashes during shows but no one bothers to mention those. It's to be expected from what is essentially beta software.
  16. I just put in 4 16 65535 and it seemed to be working fine. But I didn't try any other settings so it might not be the most optimized setting.
  17. I don't really consider MAMEoX to be an active project. XPort has worked on it fairly recently (enabled VM), but the original devs haven't touched it in a long time as far as I know. And I seriously doubt Xport cares if there is a patch to add "banned" games floating around. In the various debates about FBAX and KawaX and banned ROMS on XBox-Scene he usually doesn't comment or doesn't seem to care much. [edit] That's just my opinion. I don't know Xport and I could very well be wrong. That's just the impression I've gotten from him. But other than Xport MAMEoX is essentially dead and he really doesn't seem to be keeping up with most of his emulator ports these days. There are a few (like FCE) that have been updated on the PC side and people have been begging him to update the XBox versions for a while but he has yet to do so. So any update for MAMEoX will likely have to come from someone like djohng.
  18. Nice! Works great! I'm guessing dantesinferno didn't rename the resulting "mameoxcps.xbe" file back to "mameox.xbe". One question, I have both the progear.zip and progearj.zip clone. Will your patch find both? I didn't put the progearj in to try yet. Now I just need to find the correct settings to enter into the vm.txt file so that I can turn the "Force VM" option back off. Anyway, thanks again djohng for your great work
  19. [edit] Nevermind... I see you already found it.
  20. Ummm... I seriously doubt anything was meant by the comment. If you went to another country I'm sure their news organizations would point how many dead were known to be from their country. If the other 75,000 didn't matter then you wouldn't even know it was 75,000+ because that number wouldn't have been mentioned.
  21. I have an older Thomson and it still works just fine... BUT since I have a 250 GB HDD it rarely gets any use since I run all my games/software off the HDD. I use it to rip games from time to time, but never for actually playing a game. I've worked on some friends XBoxs that had Philips drives and haven't had any issues getting them to read DVD-R. I was using Ritek DVD-Rs at the time. I've since switched to Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs, but haven't had the opportunity to try them on a Phillips drive yet.
  22. wow thanks..i forgot about bestbuy..and it near my house too.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They should be fairly easy to find. Look on the first picture and you can see that the packages are normally labeled with "Crossover" in big lettering.
  23. Crossover Cable Crossover Cable Crossover cables look like normal network cables except they are usually some sort of odd color. Many are yellow or orange. These two are orange, I have a yellow cable myself. Both standard and crossover cables have RJ45 connectors on the end.
  24. Anyone know a good place to buy a soldering iron with a nice fine tip? Preferrably online.
