You guys did get the memo that 'shiro isn't going to work on it any more, right? Like.. he's going to put what he's got together and post it, not so much fix any bugs.

Yes we got the message. He actually asked about this issue in an earlier post after he announced he was done with FBA. I was honoring his request, though I understand that he may compile one last build.

 

Narrowed down the freeze to KOF '95. It freezes every time I go into the in-game menu no matter what.

Kenshiro's leaving?! It's a sad day indeed, cause there's only like two or three guys left actively pursuing the interests of this scene.

I will go try and reproduce the hard freeze when going into the in-game menu. The two times it happened were when I would click the right thumbstick to go into the menu after playing four or five games in a row. I will post back in few minutes with results.

I've had the odd freeze when trying to enter the in-game menu too. Both in the latest build and the one before it. I'm not running in HD though.

 

Edit: Yes, I just said the the odd freeze, I see the funny.

thanks for that guys i do have a lot of skins in each of my emus,think what i will do is make a clean install of one of the versions i have in my e drive and see what happens and might try deleting some of the skins.

but i dont want to delete any of my biulds especially the one with the sega games like altered beast,eswat......

edit/got it fixed the problem was skin related but it wasnt to do with the actaul skins that i put in that people uploaded it was because i didnt have the default skin in the skins folder.i just out it in and all my biulds started up no prolem at all so solved.

When exiting from a NeoGeo game and then selecting another -- this may hard freeze the emu, but it happens only twice after switching from encrypted parent sets to another set. I will test this more.

 

I need more specific infos. Try reproduce it - and tell me exactly which games you launched :D

 

 

For the NeoGeo section, I can confirm that the freeze problem is just for King of Fighters 95. It freezes every time going into the in-game menu. Some CPS2 games will also freeze, but we know that is because of the VMM issue that you already know about.

 

Also, I know that you did not ask about this, but none of the Dipswitches for the Cave games show up when selecting them from the menu. I could see them in your earlier build, but not the May 15th one.

 

I tried to be a good tester, but I understand that you are moving on. :) I will not post anymore about these issues because these were the only ones left. The build can be perfect if you make one more release. It is so close.

Did you see my recent posts? I respond to your questions about the freezes. Everyone should be very excited that you have come through for us one more time.

 

I am so very excited about this and your work, time, and effort is appreciated. The best FBA version ever released on the Xbox is coming. :P

Well... The code is finish, seems all works fine on my side, for CPS1, CPS2 (standard and phoenix sets). All CPS2 games have VMM. What's surprising me it's the fast loading time - can't see the difference with previous code (with no VMM). We'll see what happened with your crappy HDTV lol.

 

As it's late here and i'm lazy lol, i gonna post it tomorrow on Neosource, and compile a fresh build.

It takes about 25 to 30 seconds at the most on 1.28. But your build seems to emulate things more accurately, so that could be why. :P The 1.28 version seems to be skipping some frames of animation. The sprites in 1.29 seem to be more fluid -- I can tell anyway.

 

By the way, I noticed that your build has great sound quality. I have been playing it every chance I get.

 

With the fixes done and the code finished, I am very excited. You deserve a great nights sleep and a few drinks. Please get some rest and have a good night. :P:o:P

Entierely new CPS1 / CPS2 stuff:

 

- CPS2 doesn't use VMM now, which means faster loadings. Moreover, like on PC builds,

decryption algo is supported (Xor are now useless). And of course emulation improvements...

 

New Neogeo code:

 

entierely rewrote, this is exactly the code of latest FBA with Xbox inprovements.

Gogoackman's VMM is still used, but in a different way:

the emu will autodetect if we have enough memory to store the game in RAM, if it's not the case

the sprite data will be stored on HDD. At the second run of a game, sprite data will be load

read directly from the HDD, which produce a hell of loading speedup. For games which doesn't use VMM,

that's mean sometimes a loading time 70% shorter than before.

Data are saved in "savedRoms" directly, take care for the space that's use!!!

 

This was a great idea to make the emulator work this way. Having sprite data on the HDD was a brilliant idea. It's probably why it works so much better than 1.28.

 

Since I have plenty of extra space on my HDD, I can really appreciate this.

Just out of interest, now that HD works for CPS1/2 and NeoGeo, what about games in the others section? Does it work for them?

:) congrat for all those improvements, dealing with so many crabs during this harsh process!

I'm not really sure with extra fast loading time, but it's better for sure, overal , the frame rate is now smoother than ever, no more stuttering or slowdown.
