ken_cinder Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Silly Microsoft.......you can circumvent this without even requiring more than what they force you to install! The frickin plugin! Here's what you do..... 1. Open IE2. Click on Tools3. Click on the Manage Add-ons button.4. Select Windows Genuine Advantage (You may need to change the drop-down box to show ALL plugins)5. Click Disable 6. Done, now you can do Windows updates again.

I know there was one where right before you press Download all you had to put was some Javascript in the address bar and it would work.
Agozer Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Where is this Manage Add-Ons thing? I can't find it.
Agozer Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 we don't know about finnish ie here buddyOf course, but the innerworkings are largely the same, so save me the smartass comments.
Weirdy Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 we don't know about finnish ie here buddy<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Of course, but the innerworkings are largely the same, so save me the smartass comments. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>well..ok, on the ie header there should be something that says "help" or something similar to help to the left of "help" should be something similar to "tools" in the "tools" menu there should be something about add-ons go in there and disable the genuine thingie
ken_cinder Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Do I not recall you stating you haven't upgraded to SP2 yet? You won't have this in that case Agozer.......
Robert Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 I seem to recall from my work computer (win2000) that the genuine advantage could be removed through the add/remove programs applet in the control panel. Could be wrong about that tho'
ken_cinder Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 I don't see it on mine in XP, and even if you could......that wouldn't help any, IE would just download it again. Disabling it, it's still there, just not functional.
suvo Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 microsft already make billions of dollar's and lets just say 1 out of every 50 copies of xp is copied i mean geez
Max Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 If I turn off the Windows Updates will that bring any harm to my OS or will it still run fine?
suvo Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 it just means your pc wont have windows updated so i guess it will be fine
