i l l m a t i c Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 (edited) Within the last hour, CNET News.com has revealed that Microsoft will release a beta of Internet Explorer 7 this Summer. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates announced the new browser version at the RSA Conference 2005 in San Francisco. The beta will be available to users with Windows XP Service Pack 2. Previously Microsoft has said that Internet Explorer updates would only be delivered with Windows upgrades, leading many to anticipate that there would be no IE7 until the release of Longhorn next year. Therefore, Microsoft's announcement of a new IE release decoupled from a Windows revision can be seen as a policy reversal. Analysts suggest that competition from rivals such as Mozilla Firefox may have acted as the catalyst for this change. A Reuters article on eWeek says that IE7 will have "new anti-spyware features". http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=6079 IE would have to do a lot of stuff to make switch back... BlackKnight Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 Yeh I'm not of a mind to ditch Firefox atm. They'd have to pull something pretty cool outa the bag on this one..
L.S.D Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 IE = Internet Explorer <{POST_SNAPBACK}>you didn't get my sarcasm
montpics Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 How should I know what you are talking about.
Agozer Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 Why do I have the feeling that I won't bother... being a Firefox user after all.,
Gryph Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 I'm going to keep my eye on this just to see what they do include. Even if they do include everything Firefox has, I probably won't switch back because I prefer having my webbrowser on top of the Windows, not embedded within.
wacko_jacko Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 I'll never switch back to IE. Long live Firefox!
Samurai Edge Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 When IE 7 comes out, I'll try to make it read Chinese, Japanese and Korean codings.
