Mag Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 The people, among the media has made a big fuss about the 9/11 attack (about 5000 died) compare to the Tsunami that just occured recently (more than 140,000+ died), just because those 140,000 victims isn't americans doesn't mean we wouldn't care as much.
L.S.D Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 I wonder what tight control America will introduce due to this tsunami
taratata Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 9/11 was far worse, because it happened on US land.
OverlordMondo Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 The thing is, 9/11 was a "terrorist" attack, not a work of nature. Nature can't be stopped, but when a country is under attack, the citizens want someone to fix it.
Mag Posted January 5, 2005 Author Posted January 5, 2005 I say the U.S should go beyond the limits and bomb God for the cause of this.
taratata Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 I say the U.S should go beyond the limits and bomb God for the cause of this.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Or bomb Iran, as it is well-known that Iran and God design evil schemes together.
OverlordMondo Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 I say the U.S should go beyond the limits and bomb God for the cause of this.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I fully support that. I'm sick of God oppressing us humans just because he's omnipotent. Who made HIM God anyway? I didn't vote for him.
Gryph Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Huh? About 3000 people died at WTC I think. I think the media is doing quite a bit coverage of the tsunami and I remember hearing some journalists say "there is a parallel to the sorrow seen here and 9/11" multiple times. Hell, American citizens have donated somewhere around $200 million so that shows they care.
sf2_ryu Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 yeah i think that the 9/11 attacks where worse then the tsunami. I mean they were both very horrible. but i think that the plane crashes was kinda worse tho
Junior Chillage Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 The people, among the media has made a big fuss about the 9/11 attack (about 5000 died) compare to the Tsunami that just occured recently (more than 140,000+ died), just because those 140,000 victims isn't americans doesn't mean we wouldn't care as much.Every Dutch channel was raising money on television today, and supporting found raising events. I believe those actions have already paid off, literaly.
Gryph Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Well since some are saying which one they feel is worse, I'll chime in too. I think this tsunami is worse since it has done much more damage both physically and emotionally. Many of the people hit had little or nothing besides their families and that was taken away too. Also, about a 1/3 of the victims (or so I read sometime last week) were children so that's terrible. Also, worldwide tsunami relief has reached $3 billion which is awesome.
Inky Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 to compare or contrast both events is sickining, both were horrible, both will leave scars for years to come.
BoomBa_GoosE Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 both events are of course very tragic. but just bc 9/11 was an American thing doesnt mean it gets more coverage and more attention. i can be anti-american sometime, and i live in LA, but this isnt a matter of American or not. 9/11 was a mass murder to those in the planes, the buidlings, and to the familes state of mind. it was pushed by politics and it drove people to the point where they had to do sumthin drastic. the tsunami was a natural disaster and man it is a sad thing. no one is at fault for what happend. an act of nature is the one thing we all cant help im glad that the money given to the relief has been so great...though we all kno its not enough, A LOT of money has been given. ive yet to open my check book, but i will...
Elazul Yagami Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 1- relief efforts have been made EVERYWHERE. 2- it's not getting the same emotion cause it's not a human attack (could be if you like conspiracy theories) 3- i don't mean to be skeptical and crap, but considering the number is NO WHERE near the 500,000 deaths caused in iraq by the sanctions, i wonder who's surprised.
Sultan Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Sure, you could say this disaster is getting less coverage in the US than 9/11, and that's understandable. But is it true for the rest of the world? I'd say its probably even, or getting more coverage because the effects of the tsunami are more long-lasting. Also, if you just want to compare by how many people died, then this event's coverage should be dwarfed by worldwide epidemics such as malaria and AIDS, both of which kill far more people in the world every month than have died in the tsunami and 9/11 combined.
