The-Ice-Man Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 You can get a 500GB for around £60 in the UK. Say somewhere under $100 in the US. Usually the pattern is the bigger the drive the better value for money coz you get more GB per £/$.
RedCapsMan Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Check www.pricewatch.com and search for ide drives. Try to find something WD thats not refurbished and you should be good. I only say Western Digital because thats what I've had the best luck with. Pricewatch will find you the best price at whatever given moment.
Neo369 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I just recently upgraded to a WD 320GB brand new for $45. Found a great price on amazon. XBPartitioner automatically formatted all the extra space to the f drive and it was a breeze to set up. I'm now enjoying about 100 games and all the emus and roms i can handle.
ken_cinder Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 You're not going to find decent sized IDE drives anymore, for anywhere near decent prices. A 500GB IDE drive will cost almost you what a 1TB SATA drive will these days. $60 for the 500GB IDE one on average, where you can get a 1TB SATA drive for like $80-$85. Better off getting an SATA drive and an adapter.

Neo369 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) I just recently upgraded to a WD 320GB brand new for $45. Found a great price on amazon. Could you give me a link to that hard drive on amazon?here's the amazon link:http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-WD32...681&sr=8-11right now its $56 with free shipping new from amazon, but independent sellers can sometimes give better prices after shipping costs.not a bad price at all.here is one more link to a very similar model (same stats, also western digital) which costs just a bit more, but if you decide to watch the prices for a while, it might go down, but i doubt it:http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-WD32...8995&sr=1-2 btw, sata drives are definitely cheaper, but i have heard some people have had trouble with adapters, so imo i would just play it safe with pata. hope this helps! Emu Newbie Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 I believe I'm gonna go w/ the 320gb hdd, does anyone have a recommended tutorial on how to put the HDD into my xbox? Thanks! also: does anyone have any ideas when resurrectionX will release his large packs of roms/emulators/pics/previews in torrent form?
The-Ice-Man Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Have you ever opened your Xbox before? If so you just unplug the old one and plug the new one in. If not then I'm guessing you're using a soft mod, and so you'll need to do this: http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/crack_open_that_xbox.htm

PhilExile Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Xbox 1 - 300 gigXbox 2 - 320 gigXbox 3 - 320 gigXbox 4 - 1000 gig (People kept giving me their old XBOXs they didn't want anymore!)
Emu Newbie Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 http://www.techfreaks.org/articles/modxbox2.shtml will this method partition correctly for a much bigger hdd?
Neo369 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 for me, it only gave 120gb on the f drive...not sure if there is a way to set up xboxhdm to increase cluster size and use the full f drive, but all you have to do is use xbpartitioner. you can run it off AID if you have a disk of it, or any disk really, or just ftp to your e drive and run. when its running, scroll down to your f drive (it is not labeled as f, but it will be the largest one) and just hit a. you can keep doing this until you see your desired option for allocating drive space. you can put 120gb on f and the rest on g, equally split f and g, or increase cluster size and put all on f (the one i chose). after this hit start? (not sure if thats it exactly, it should say on screen what to hit) and it will format and partition the drive the way you choose. it works pretty fast, and you'll have your harddrive up and running in no time.let me know if any of that was unclear, i am very tired =P
Emu Newbie Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 I have some AID discs (that's part of what I used to soft mod my xbox currently). So everything you're saying makes sense. I'll let you guys know when I get it all together. So anyone have an idea how much longer the resurrection Xtra stuff is gonna be finished?
