Alpha Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Well, my trial for FlashFXP finally ended the other day. It lasted for about a year before it didn't allow me to use the program anymore. Do you guys know of any good FTP softwares that I can use as a replacement to FlashFXP? I'll tell you .. I've tried SmartFTP and WS_FTP Pro ... and they both suck. I'm disgusted at how poor these programs are for such a simple task as FTP'ing. I'd appreciate the help.
Robert Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 We used to have ws-ftp at work back in the windows for workgroups day, and it seemed ok. Most of my (limited) ftp experience has been on the command line...
Wizard Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 SmartFP and WS_FTP are both the best FTP programs I've ever used and it's FlashFTP is the one that I find trash imo.
BlackKnight Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 My university for some reason endorses and has guides for CuteFTP. It is also installed on all campus machines.
Wizard Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 CuteFTP from my experience is a decent FTP proggy. Like all FTP proggies, just have to get passed the whole setting up phase. Maybe that's why GC doesn't like WS-FTP & SmartFTP. He just wants it up and running without any hassle. In my experience, that's niegh impossible unless you don't have any firewalls or routers.
olaf Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I've always used a really old 16-bit version of WS_FTP LE -- it's so simple and reliable.
Alpha Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 Well, the problem I have with WS_FTP is that it won't let me upload files with long filenames.
ken_cinder Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I use Filezilla, have in the past use FlashFXP and CuteFTP, no comparison.......Filezilla for teh win. I also try to use Free/Open Source anywhere I can. I'm getting sick of cracking things all the time, and not only that, OS stuff seems to be better 90% of the time anyway. Maybe I should sticky a list of Free/Open Source programs in the Computer Stuff forum. You'd be surprised what you can do and better when it comes to things you need.
Alpha Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 I just tried Filezilla and the GUI is terrible IMO. I tried sending a folder with over a 1,000 files to a server and the entire program just hiccuped and wouldn't send it. I think I'm going to have to try something else.
Devia Eleven Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Older versions of FlashFXP do the job. Especially with bundles of small files. You could try AceFTP or SmartFTP.
