GodPigeon Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 I was wondering, alot of other forums have ROM Request topics. Why dont we have one?? Just curious....
Gryph Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 We used to have one but not anymore. We decided to become a legit emulation site. It also brought a lot of people that just asked for ROMs and never stayed. Sure we lost a lot of people and many were upset but I think it's worked out pretty well.

Its true, without it we get more of a close community. But putting one wouldnt be bad like if we did it the way we do for the SPAM forum, only premium members could ask or go to that forum.. EDIT:Wait...nvm, u said legit... Edited October 8, 2006 by GoRDoOnE
Robert Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 I think being a premium member may have had some extra benefit in the old days... not sure though, I wasn't here back then..
Gryph Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Yeah, it used to be open to all then only to premium members. The Spam forum took place of the Rom Request forum as the bonus for being a premium member.

It works out better this because there is a lot less people with 1 post.
Darken Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 yeah... I remeber that time, first the rom requst was free and I was happy, after that I should post 100 post to be premium member, and when i got there,it was allready gone

Devia Eleven Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 (edited) Why aren't we allowed to request roms if the website is called 1emulation? Emulation is illegal. (Correct me if I am wrong) Edited October 13, 2006 by Devia Eleven
Lucandrake Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Emulation is legal, emulation is different from ROMS. Roms are the actuall games!!!
Agozer Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Emulation is not illegal. The main purpose of emulators is not to provide the means for people to play console games on their PC that they illegally downloaded. The ability to play games is a side-effect of accurate (or at the very least, near-accurate) emulation of the target hardware. It just happens that most of those who are using emulators are using them the illegal way. The legal way of emulator use would mean to only play public domain games and/or run test carts to see if the emulator is accurate enough to pass hardware tests and different memory map/RAM/ROM checks. Nothing more, nothing less really. Well ok, if you own the original game cart and dump it yourself, I think it's legal for you to run the ROM image in the emulator. Except that copiers are a gray area. If emulators were illegal you wouldn't be seeing any posts about new emulator versions, links et al. At least not on this board.
