Elazul Yagami Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 flock that. when vista becomes norm, i'm moving permanently to linux. is halo even worth it? i played it on the xbox and it was an ok multiplay game... is it worth downloading on the pc?does it have good lan play?
Weirdy Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 (edited) I myself am thinking of trying Ubuntu once my media arrives (I know I can download free, but don't feel like it atm). If I like it, I wouldn't consider a permanent switch until linux has hardware support for 2D and 3D. I downloaded Knoppix but I get some stupid module error when it's trying to detect my hardware. Wizard Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 I don't care really. Windows is windows, and games are on Windows. Does that mean I'll be getting Windows Vista? Yes, but am I paying for it? No, is it going to be legit? Most likely.

ken_cinder Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I won't touch Vista with a 10 foot pole. Any OS that requires the latest and greatest in hardware, is bloatware. An Operating System is there to provide an interface to the hardware and some general useability. Additional software is where higher requirements should play in.Screw Windows Vista.
death_entry Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 yeh doesn't it need like 512 minimum ram to run or something?
ken_cinder Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Yes and a newer video card is a requirement for it's visual aspects. You shouldn't need a hardware accellerated video card of mid-high range capability to run your OS.Vista is going to eat up so much resources even on the latest hardware when it ships, that Halo 2 will barely run at it's full potential FFS. I guarantee it. Then throw in it's sandboxing DRM and Secure-HD bullshit.........They better change their tune drastically, or the crowd of users they have that is capable of using other OS' (Linux, BSD etc) will just say screw it and ditch Windows as much as they possibly can. Me for instance, I'll keep XP for what I need and thats it. Linux will take over as my primary OS, in contrast to it being my secondary OS atm.
Gryph Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Will Vista require DX10 cards? I know it's going to ship with that but I'm sure it won't be required to upgrade. However, what's this buisness about having a protected monitor to view DRM videos? That sucks.

So pretty much, to use Vista.....you'll need new EVERYTHING.

I am waiting until the latest beta ( RC1, RC2 ) to test then it should be known what GFX cards it will work with.
Darken Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I think this one should move to Computer Speak fourm
Wizard Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 The conversation wandered off from Halo 2 and just went straight into the Vista portion.
Wizard Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 K`dash is very excited about halo 2.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Of course, personally, I love the Halo games. It's just the rep it has recieved over the past 5 years it's gained as an "XBOX LOLOLOLOLO GMAE NOT ON PC!" Then theres people like Cinder who constantly bash Windows operating systems, yes sure, people are like him too, but that doesn't bother me alot. What's down is, Windows is a major player, and I like playing games on a PC that doesn't require EMULATING THE WINDOWS OS ITSELF (HEED TO LINUX USERS). Linux is as powerful and as useless as you can make it. Which is why I don't use it. While I love tweaking the shiet out of my computer, I can't sit down and take the time tweaking Linux for my own personal needs. Unless it's for a server. Because those are easy to set up. And this IS gaming news. Because we rarely get stuff like. Everything between now and various game trade shows is the only thing gunning for "gaming" news.
