taratata Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 A court in the US has ruled against the teaching of "intelligent design" alongside Darwin's theory of evolution. A group of parents in the Pennsylvania town of Dover had taken the school board to court for demanding biology classes not teach evolution as fact. The authorities wanted to introduce the idea that Earth's life was too complicated to have evolved on its own. Judge John Jones ruled the school board had violated the constitutional ban on teaching religion in public schools.BBC News
NeuronMaster Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 How silly, to think that something as intricate as this could have been created...
NeuronMaster Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Just one question I have about evolution. If things are supposed to improve, or evolve with time, why don't we improve as we get older instead of just keeling over and dying? I don't get it.
Gryph Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Because evolution occurs as a bunch of small steps over a long period of time.
NeuronMaster Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Even if evolution is true, I'm much more content believing the fantasy that I was created by intelligence greater than my own. My opinion.
ken_cinder Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 We have been evolving over the last few centuries.........just in minor ways that don't seem significant. There are some things we are not as susceptible to anymore that we were a thousand years ago, and I don't mean diseases that have been erradicated by the use of drugs.People live longer on average than they did just one hundred years ago, and this is not entirely thanks to medical practices. The average human lifespan is longer period. Plenty of other small insignificant things. You'll never be around to "witness" a major change, they don't occur as a major change.........thats called a mutation lol
OverlordMondo Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 You're entitled to your own opinion. Just remember that if it isn't the same as my opinion, your opinion is wrong.

There's actual proof of that. Anyways, intelligent design is flocking retarded. I'm amazed it was allowed into schools in the first place.

Sybarite Paladin AxL Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 (edited) that's cuz stereotypically speaking a helluva lot of chinese men are short. edit: what exactly is intelligent design about? darwin-god combo? also, I think it's completely retarded people in America are not taught religion in school. Completly retarded. Atheists stfu on this. I mean what harm can it do? Here in Romania, religion is taught in primary school and we also learn about Darwin's theory a bit latter and it's all good. I mean some of my friends went to religion lessons same as me. Yet they are now atheists. But then again, I'm talking about America where everything is retarded. Yes people have been getting taller and the average lifespan has increased as opposed to the Illumination period for example where the human lifespan was around 40 years and they were all midgets(not that there's anything wrong with midgets of course). Robert Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I'm surprised this subject was resurrected considering the inane argument it produced last time, ending with a locked thread. (hint hint). Anyway we were brought here by aliens.

Not really a Darwin-God combo like you say. That's something most people who are able to accept both science and their own faith do, not the people who promote ID. Unfortunately, ID doesn't really have any scientific legs it can stand on so such a thing cannot be discussed scientifically so it is left to faith and not fit to teach in a biology classroom. The reason religion isn't taught in public schools in America is because our consitution states that there must be a separation of church and state and the freedome of religion. "The Establishment Clause has generally come to mean that government cannot authorize a church, cannot pass laws that aid or favor one religion over another, cannot pass laws that favor religious belief over non belief, cannot force a person to profess a belief. In short, government must be neutral toward religion and cannot be entangled with any religion."http://fact.trib.com/1st.religion.htmlBasically that means our tax dollars cannot be used to promote any religious viewpoint. You have to send your child to private school for that. And yes, our public school system is pretty bad. Also, people were generally shorter a long time ago.
Weirdy Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I know I wouldn't like to have been taught religion in public school
