TCPA: does anyone believe this

Ever heard of the TCPA? An organisation with the top computer software and hardware companies whose aim is to control what software will work on your computer.

This plans that every computer will have a TPM (Trusted Platform Module), also known as Fritz-Chip, built-in. At later development stages, these functions will be directly included into CPUs, graphiccards, harddisks, soundcards, bios and so on. This secures that the TCPA can prevent any unwanted software and hardware. The long term result will be that it will be impossible to use hardware and software that's not approved by the TCPA. Therefore open-source and freeware would be condemned to die, because without such a certification the software will simply not work. In the long term only the big companies would survive and could control the market as they would like.

This could be considered old as it's been around since 1999.

Should it ever happen it would be a great threat to our freedom.

What do you think?

Maybe those old computers will have some extra life in them after all.

i don't think so, cuz then there'll be no open-source, freeware and other homebrew softwares and anything having to do with taking away our freedom people will protest so i doubt it's gonna happen

Let's see now... We've had to deal with Jack Thompson, the DMCA, record companies, DRM schemes, the analog hole bill, the RIAA, the MPAA, and now the TCPA (albeit the TCPA is old)...

They honestly won't stop at nothing while lobbying their own interests.

It won't ever happen simply because it violates laws of freedom and privacy in EVERY country where freedom is a RIGHT, and that includes the US.

Why do you think it still hasn't been put into place? They can't find a legal way to do so.

This is a pretty dumb idea. A lot of the programs out there won't be allowed on one's computer. (And if this was implemented, how many damn groups will try to get them to prevent violence or w/e. Lame.)
