Pacifi3d is a proof-of-concept pacman emulator that replaces the original pacman sprites and tiles with OpenGL 3D graphics.

 

Pacifi3d currently runs on Windows and Linux.

 

 

How it works

Pacman draws graphics by requesting the hardware to draw a sprite or tile at a specified position in a certain colour. Pacifi3d replaces the 2D video emulation of a standard pacman emulator with code to draw an equivalent 3D model at that position.

 

Having transformed the graphics output into 3D it is also possible to place the camera at the players position to simulate pacman from a 1st person perspective.

 

Usage

Download and unpack the binaries for your system.

Place the roms for puckman in the provided roms subdirectory unzipped.

Run the pacifi3d executable.

 

 

NOTE:

Pacifi3d requires real arcade roms to function. These are NOT provided on this site. DO NOT REQUEST ROMS.

Pacifi3d currently expects to find the following named roms:

Other romsets may work if renamed to this scheme.

In the future Pacifi3d may support other versions of pacman.

Its new to me, but I'm not gonna try it. Looks cool but there are other games I'd rather play now (Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories).

Don't get me wrong now, I had tons of Pacman as a kid.

Damn I had this same idea! I thought of it back when that DX emu that put new graphics to old games like GNG came out. The one I really wanted to update was Star Wars, and other vector games. I think it would be neat to give those brand new 3D graphics

GeoCities is the shitz nikka!!! O well, this rom update to the older version of pac-man kinda bores me, it's just eye candy toward a good game that came out years ago.

Well I typed this up... and the site went down for hours, so let's try again.

 

I downloaded the emu (they're not on geoshiities any more), got the proper roms, and it's really crappy. Slow, no sound, terrible graphics, in black & white. Can't start a game.

 

F11 switches to full screen

F1-F4 do something??

 

no instructions as usual.

There IS some instructions give on how to start a game.

Yeah.....I missed those. But they do nothing. I'm just going to copy it to my win95 pc and see what happens.

The DLL is not compatible and useless on '95... oh well I can't use this emu.

Win95? I can play it on WinXP. Don't know what's your problem. So, you manage to view it on the screen?

On win95, it straightaway says that the dll cannot start, and that's all.

 

I don't have XP, maybe thats the only OS it works on??

 

This machine is win2000pro. The program tries to run but it goes at a snails pace. In the top left corner is a tiny coloured copy of the game but just dots, not graphics. The rest of the screen shows the game starting up and the demo running, but just black & white, horrible, and 5 key does nothing. I never saw a 3d image.

 

The roms are exactly the ones specified with correct names and CRCs.

 

It could be this machine as MESS doesn't work on it either.

 

This computer is a celeron 500mhz with 512meg of ram.
