do you think it would be really beneficial to put one on the GPU, or did you do yours just to save space? are temps significantly lower than before on the gpu? also, are both heatsinks being powered from the psu cable to the hdd?

Thanks for the pics. That is pretty much the exact height that I am aiming for in my slim, so going by what you say, this should work out well. I see you have an Iceberq on the GPU. How does that work for you? I was thinking about putting one on both GPU and CPU each, but Trusty never responded when I asked him if those would give sufficient cooling.

Hey Cospefogo or Retroplay, from what I have read, you had created wide icons packs for games and emulators for XBMC. All links that I could find for them are currently down. Is there any way you could re-release these packs? I have been trying to get all wide icons for my games, but its very time consuming to do each one at a time from Xbox.com... Thanks!

thank you. very good info. i have heard that the 1.4ghz gets hotter than the 1ghz, but by how much idk. i will hold off on purchasing the 40mm fans for now then. after i test my box for a while with just one, i will see how the temps are. then if i need more i will buy more. i thought that since temps in regular xbox's were already high with the 1.4ghz, that with a slimbox they would be really high. hopefully this will not be the case then.

how many things did you have hooked up to the hdd power? because a case fan takes relatively little power (around 0.1-0.2 A) in comparison to a HDD (around 0.5A). however, i dont know a lot about the current coming from the psu, so what you described seems entirely possible. thanks for the info though. i guess i could use the dvd power too, as i think it is 12V and will be unoccupied if im taking out the drive.

Hi everybody, I am currently in the process of doing several mods to my XBOX. I am upgrading the RAM and CPU, placing new heatsinks on CPU and GPU, slimming down the box by removing the DVD drive through flashing my TSOP, getting a clear case and clearing my jewel, adding some LED's, putting in a larger HDD, switching the ATA cable to a round ATA 100, adding an MPCX heatsink, etc. With the new CPU and RAM, not to mention having less space in the case, I expect my XBOX will run quite a bit hotter than before. To combat this, I am planning to add some new fans. I will have one 60mm at the back like normal (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835119021) and am planning to put this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product) on the left side of the case, taking off the clips and just using the three fans. Installation for the fans on the left side of the case will be similar to this. There will be four fans total, so I am wondering, what is the best way to set these up? By this, I mean power-wise and whether to intake or remove air from the case with each. I was thinking that I would have the three small fans on the left pull air in, and the rear fan would push out the hot air. As far as powering them goes, I planned to use a 3-4 pin connector on the rear fan to power it from the PSU and piggyback with the HDD power. For the side fans I am still undecided, but would it be ok to run them from the motherboard connection? They are 12V, but would the motherboard supply enough power for them to run effectively? One reason I wanted to put those to the motherboard was so that I could turn down the speed when watching movies to cut down on what I expect to be an anything but silent XBOX. Any suggestions for a better way to set these up? This is my first real mod, so I want everything to turn out nice! Btw, sorry for the long post. Edit: Links fixed.

i would really hope so, because this is very impressive. actually this is pretty much huge news (imao). this might be the motivation the scene needs to gain some support and find new workarounds for running this program, allowing more 360's to be able to do it. everything takes time though, so ill just sit here and be patient (actually, ill keep modding my original while i wait ). thanks for the update!

it would be great to have "tabs" at the top of the screen for each system. then when a tab is selected, it only shows a list of the games for that system instead of a huge list of everything. there could be an "All Games" tab as well. i think this would really help to clear up sorting games and finding games you want. controls would be simple. d-pad left and right select tabs, d-pad up and down scroll games, as well as ltrigger and rtrigger for fast scrolling. let me know what you think, or if anybody else would like this.

to get full performance with 1.4ghz cpu and 128mb of ram, are there any special settings we need to do? as you stated earlier this will make games such as umk3 run at full speed with sound.

ok, so i will be getting a 1.4ghz xbox with 128mb of ram. is there anything special i need to do in coinops to have it recognize the extra speed of my cpu? and for those of you using n64 with an upgraded box, do you need to do anything special with surreal64 settings to get increased speed? i am currently using monkeys ini for game configs, will this still give the best results for my roms?

actually, besides demos, panzer dragoon was one of only a few that had xbe's for old games included. there are definitely no direct xbe's for mortal kombat (trust me it was the first thing i checked when i got the midway game). but i thought doom did have some xbes (dont hold me to that). only other i know of is house of the dead 3 (has an xbe for hotd2 which must be unlocked otherwise).

Nah, didn't bother. Since the fan isn't running from the motherboard anymore, there is no speed control. From XBMC or BIOS. It's just constant 12V all the time.

Ok for anyone who is curious, I have the fan hooked up to 12V and it runs great now. Seems to be a bit cooler than before, and is not as quiet as on 6V, but is still quieter than the stock fan was. The problem with putting any other fan to the mb with 6V is that most fans are 1 milliamp. The stock fan is 2.5 mA, so other fans will run, but will be underpowered and go very slowly. This will likely cause the XBOX to overheat. Going with what CBA said, do not do the 12V mod. It will likely kill your XBOX. Instead what I have done, with a 3 to 4 pin connector (also can be done simply by joining some wires) is powered my fan directly from the power source, which has a 12V source currently going to the harddrive. This can be tapped, to power the fan and the harddrive. This will cause no damage to the harddrive as 1 mA is a very small amount of current. A pretty simple fix for anyone wanting to switch fans.

Hey guys looking for a bit of advice. I recently upgaded my XBOX fan to this silent fan from Vantec. Works great, and is super-quiet, my only question has to do with power. I was thinking about doing the 12V mod, but it did not seem like a very good idea to pull 12V from a 6V source (don't really want to fry my mb). So instead I am just upping the fan speed override in XBMC. The question is that when I use this override, will the fan still run at a higher speed while playing games/emulators, or only when XBMC is running, because I thought I heard it quiet down when I started up a game. If this only applies to XBMC, is there a way to set the default fan speed on my bios to keep it going faster when playing games? Thanks to anybody who knows, also, if you have had success with the 12V mod, or want to kindly explain to me why it won't mess anything up, that would be awesome.

for me, it only gave 120gb on the f drive...not sure if there is a way to set up xboxhdm to increase cluster size and use the full f drive, but all you have to do is use xbpartitioner. you can run it off AID if you have a disk of it, or any disk really, or just ftp to your e drive and run. when its running, scroll down to your f drive (it is not labeled as f, but it will be the largest one) and just hit a. you can keep doing this until you see your desired option for allocating drive space. you can put 120gb on f and the rest on g, equally split f and g, or increase cluster size and put all on f (the one i chose). after this hit start? (not sure if thats it exactly, it should say on screen what to hit) and it will format and partition the drive the way you choose. it works pretty fast, and you'll have your harddrive up and running in no time. let me know if any of that was unclear, i am very tired =P
