  1. that could be true. im sure its very specific to your setup. i could give it a try as well. most overclockers recommend blowing air onto the heatsink, so that is what i did. also, almost every cpu cooler does this as well. but ill try it out on my setup. anything to cool down my box sounds good to me. what are your temps at btw? mine are around 120. do you have the stock case? b/c im using a slim. every detail can change it i guess. keep me updated. im satisfied with 120 idle, but i bet it could be better.

  3. hey guys, im back, and so far, everything is working again. i believe i have found the culprit to the booting problem. i had already reseated the cpu once, but after i did it again, i put the heatsink on very lightly this time and it works now. i think i had tightened it too much before, and with that pcb from trusty, it caused the cpu to come out a little bit, making it not boot. so phil, make sure you dont tighten it too much. also, my best advice for your temps, even though it sounds like you have it pretty good already, is have a fan blowing directly down onto that heatsink. the closer it is the better. if you have already done that, cool, but that is what i did and it works very well so far. hey nextel, i want to reflash my tsop, but i have one little problem. my bios right now resets every time i hit eject. how can i reflash now? because i think the eurasia flash disc requires you to put in another cd part of the way through... any ideas are appreciated.
  4. mine was about that hot too. and yes it is crazy. first i changed the thermal compound to arctic silver 5. -10 degrees to 170. then i put some fans from a ram cooler on the heatsink. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...5-002-_-Product those were the ones i used. modified them a bit and with a few zipties, got them nicely in place. two of the three fans blow straight down onto the heatsink, and the third is at the front side blowing toward the back of the case to my main case fan. down to 120 degrees now. much better. and those fans are nearly silent. also, it may be a good idea to get a copper heatsink instead of the aluminum one he gives you. of you can find one that will fit with a reasonable amount of effort to modify, let me know. good luck!
  5. no luck guys. i tried disconnecting my extra fans to make sure i wasnt taking too much power at startup and also switched the power supply with one that i know works also from a 1.4 xbox. the problem was not resolved. reseated the cpu...no dice. idk what to do now... waiting for a response from trusty as well
  6. hopefully ill get some time to look at this in the morning. im tired and frustrated lol. life is getting busy again...but hobbies are so much more fun. trusty also recommended reseating the cpu, so i will try that. and he advised not to try to reflash my tsop. ill post updates...hopefully this works out.
  7. could reflashing the bios possibly fix this?
  8. well i hope its not your worst case, cuz then im sh*t out of luck, seeing as i just spend $xxx on this thing from trusty, plus every custom part that is in there.
  9. That sometimes happens on a box im working on that has a faulty dvd drive. Maybe check all the cables are plugged in correctly (ide cable and dvd power) Try turning it on with the eject button and leaving the tray open until it boots, if it works every time then it might be the dvd drive playing up? its a slim box, so it has no dvd drive. tsop is flashed to skip dvd check.
  10. hey guys, need a bit of help...so i have been having a problem making my box boot lately. sometimes it works fine no problems, but sometimes it takes many tries just to start it up. when i turn it on, it starts for about 2 seconds, nothing comes up on my tv yet, then it turns right back off. it turns on again on its own, then same thing. the third time it turns on, it stays on, but will not boot...the leds at the front just flash, but no on screen errors... anybody know what is going on here? power supply maybe? when i finally do get it up and running, i have absolutely no problems. just when i try to start it...
  11. i sent out my board on april 12, and got it back with all the modifications on april 30. so less than 3 weeks total. part of the delay was the volcano stopping flights...trusty sent out my board april 25, only 3 days after he received it on the 22nd. his service was very quick. also, with retail xbox games (nonpatched), many work, but many do not. they run too fast overall, or only some aspects will go too fast (timers, etc). after patching them, they all work perfect.
  12. ok guys, a quick update. i have patched mameox.xbe and default.xbe as advised and everything works awesome! i have no idea how the patch works but it does. all of my games play full speed with sound and i have ram to spare =] this is on 720p with the hq sound setting and video enhancing effects all on. mortal kombat with sound = amazing haha. back to my childhood lol.
  13. do you think it makes enough difference to use it? also, i have 128mb or ram so would i even have problems with it?
  14. what are the "WARNING!!! Video Enhancing Effects"? and why are they warning?
  15. email him at trustyty (AT) hotmail.com and check out the hdd compatibility list here: http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list
  16. thats not a bad idea. pretty much hack together a cpu cooler. that or someone on xbox-scene had suggested an air vent from the heatsink to the fan to direct the air better. i dont think i would need to cut the case with these new fans though. just cut the EM shield a bit and zip-tie them on the inside. they are pretty thin.
  17. I have used XBtool, and have the bios I want to flash on there ready. I'll look at the raincoat thing, thanks. Fan speed is at full since I am running from the HDD power in the first place, so yea, its loud, but if it will keep my box alive, its worth it. Plus with my surround speakers, the whine of a fan gets drowned out pretty easily. If temps don't go down at all, I'm gonna add some intake fans on the left side of the box. That should take care of it. And those I'll put to the motherboard power so I can turn them down if they get too loud when I'm watching movies and stuff.
  18. yea, i was a bit afraid how it would look after, but it came out nice. a little cloudy, but after a bit of sanding and enough toothpaste i had the cuts looking fairly clear again too. i used my old case to practice cut first so i could get an idea what i was doing. thanks dude. just touching on the other topic you were helping me with Nextel, my CPU gets up to 170F or 77C. do you think this is a problem? i used arctic silver 5, but the normal heatsink that trusty sent me. also, my gpu has an iceberq, and is pretty good temperature-wise. last thing, i wanted to make a couple changes to my bios (boot order, logo colors, random stuff), how many times can that tsop be flashed without screwing it up? trusty sent it to me flashed already, so i think he only did it once, but idk for sure. also, since he did it the first time, idk what to use. should i just do the 007 installer or is there a different way to do it if your bios is already flashed?
  19. @ PhilExile - Yes, I can test it for you. PM me a link with what you would like tested, emu and all. I will do it within the next week. @ ace9094 - Thanks! @ sbpaabck - I bought the case here. It also came with a small ring of 4 leds that i put in there to add some light. Yes, I got rid of the DVD drive, and my new HDD is 320GB =]. There are many lights. The ones that came with the case obviously plus controller port lights and custom power board lights. Finally, the fan is a blue led fan, and i have an iceberq 4 pro that has blue leds. The main fan is running from the HDD power so is at full power, and the iceberq is running from the motherboard in the space where the old GPU cooler used to plug in so it is also at full power. Trusty installed the extra fan connector for me (very nice surprise, its a 1.4 XBOX, so it wouldn't normally have one there). The original fan connector sits unused currently. The dvd power is also untapped. The connector is very specific, and i didn't feel like messing with it, so I'm not using it. @ Nextel - Thanks for the patch. I think that's the same as the one I have, I will be trying it out as soon as I get a bit more free time again. Did you patch every .xbe file or just default.xbe's? And you are correct, it is a slim =]. Do you approve? @ ace9094 - He had it ready when I paid him, so it took only a few days to arrive. I actually sent my board to him to get modified, and I think the total time was only three weeks. Plus, my package was on hold for a while because of the volcano in Iceland, so take off a few days at least. It was very quick service, and he is trustworthy for sure (it's his name lol).
  20. i was jealous of everyone else who had them so i shelled out the money and got it. now my friends are jealous :) btw if you want pics...
  21. well, it all works...it just works too good haha. xbmc is blazing fast. my box starts in less than 10 seconds. ftp is at least twice as fast as it seems the low system specs were throttling it before. also, i have had some success with playing h264 720p videos from my network. i think people have made it all work at correct speeds, so once i do to it will all be worth it. still looking for some advice on what to do though. Well I do hope you get it all working mate plus hi def films is a real bonus if using the machine as a media centre like I do. I got my pc hooked up to my tv tho so I can get round that problem.... the xbox is quieter than my pc tho... once you figure it out maybe you could tell us how its done, might be useful for future reference i will keep you updated. right now, im testing a new version of surreal that should support 128mb. will update later today hopefully.
  22. o ok for some reason i thought that was just for original xbox games... do you know what the patch does exactly? because it seems like it would just limit the processor speed or something, and if it does that, it would not be useful any more as it has power, but is being throttled, so why even have an upgraded cpu. if however, it allows the game/emulator to make use of the speed when needed, that would be awesome.

  24. b5.3 does not work with our xboxs at the moment. the 128mb of ram is what is breaking it im pretty sure. it is being worked on right now. you can use b5 temporarily if you still want to play as it should work well. i played only two games on b5 to test it, but i did super smash with 1964 which worked before, and still worked. i also ran it with pj64, which used to lag incredibly. now it works perfectly. mario kart 64 however runs much too fast... and dont worry, your english is doing great, keep at it! try "Can you play surreal64..." next time
  25. for anyone interested, i have just put together an upgraded xbox motherboard from trusty. runs everything blazing fast, but some things too fast lol. i will be posting more results as i go on since i have literally just started, but the very first thing i noticed was that coinops runs way to fast. i am running reignite x, and i can play umk3 with sound but unfortunately the entire game is on fast forward, as are all the other games on mame... xbox games are also going too fast, but i know there is a patch for those. i will try that soon to see how it works. anyone have ideas to slow down coinops to normal speed but still have mortal kombat and other games run properly? bp said that it would run all of the games perfectly, which is one of the main reasons i got this all in the first place... thanks!
