It's a bunch of files for each CPS-2 game released by CPS2Shock. All in all, without those, CPS-2 games wouldn't be playable. btw, don't bother looking for XOR files on CPS2Shock's homepage, since they stopped distributing the files there.

You don't have the needed XOR file to decrypt the game. Not decrypted = no gameplay.

Either click on the Public Hubs button (the first one and double click a hub on the list to correct to that hub. Alternatively, ifyou already know a hub address that you would like to connect to, press CTRL+Q and type the address there. This is called quick connecting. Yo can also create a list of your favorite hubs by adding them to the favorite hubs list (Yellow Star). Some hubs might require you to set a specific description or something else, to even get into the hub, so adding a hub to Favorites makes that easier as well. Make sure you set your nickname and shared folders in the preferences before connecting to any hubs though. One more thing: Once you get into a hub and try to search for files, but nothing comes up, set your connection settings to Passive in Preferences and reconnect to the hub.

Scanlines do have a purpose: to simulate the TV effect and lower the requirements to run something at full speed. Scanlining simulates interlacing but it really isn't the same on a monitor than on a TV screen, that's why it looks "crappier" in emulators

I get the error too, but it most likely has to do with the fact that the SRAM hasn't been written yet. Once you go to the test menu and adjust the settings, the message will go away.
