The game installed fine from the mounted Install disc? If so, and FF8 refuses to use anything than your "real" CD drive, then one solution might be to go into the Registry Editor, and search for any FF8 related keys (either in HKEY_CURRENT_USER or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) and change all values that point to the CD-ROM drive letter to point to the the Daemon Tools drive letter.

You don't need CDs if you're just going to emulate the game. Mount CD 1 and run the game. Since you said that you have 5 CDs, I assume that you have the PC version; still the wrong forum, but then again, we don't have a subforum for PC games...

Do you mean Final Fantasy III US?

It might be that the image is broken... or alternatively, some games might need patching before they can be run in ePSXe. Have you checked the ePSXe FAQ?

You really can't beat Ruby Weapon even with strong characters. You must have gotten the Mime materia and Knights of the Round summon, otherwise it's nearly impossible to beat him. Starting over with everything unlocked just because Ruby Weapon made short work of your party is no excuse. Besides, you don't even have to beat Ruby Weapon to beat the game.

Do you mean when you try to start ePSXe, the screen blacks out or when you select File --> Load CDROM?

You could download the official 7-Zip archiver from http://www.7-zip.org and see ifit can open those files.

7-Zip archives show as WinRAR archives only if you've associates the 7z file type to use WinRAR (of course). You should just try to open it with WinRAR. As for the 7-Zip contents... you're saying that the archive has more 7z files in it?
