I've just received a couple of cd in foreign lenguage, japanese, i was wondering if there is any software that can translate the jap audio to english or at least if it can add subtitles in english.

I really really really doubt it. Unless there is some uber expensive program that does that, I don't think speech and sound recognition is that advanced yet.

Not exactly per se. But people to make srt(subtitle files) files for video medias.

Thatn would be cool...they should make one that translates all different kinds of profanity. Pinchy Baboso!!!

I'm glad that speech regocnition and text-2-speech programs/software exist (makes life easier even for one of my friends anyway...but a direct speech translator program? You're asking way too much at this point in time.

The closest thing you can get is possibly entering speech as text, let some program translate it and then another program does the Text-2-Speech.

And you would end up with some really funky English translation.

Yeah, whatever you do, don't translate with Babelfish.

What software for the texts?

that is not much likely to happen, the only waywould be to use a program to transform voice into text and then translate that text into english but even that way, with the errors in each step the final text will be near to senseless

if it's a video game or something you can probably go to gamefaqs and find translations there, no?

Actually, you can BUY voice translation software, but I've never seen a free version and besides I doubt it would be accurate enough to sit through a whole movie

You're sounding more and more like Hannibal Lecter from the Silence of The Lambs series every day now...it's starting to freak me out.

"It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again"

Edit: I just remembered, that quote wasn't by Hanibal Lecter, but from Buffalow Bill or whatever they called him (the one making a woman-suit)
