Well, I'm having a hard time finding a good MP3 player.

I have my eyes set on this and this as my choices but their just too expensive B) I would choose the latter but I don't have USB 2.0 :/

Other choices would be: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetai...d=&newdeptid=19 1.5gb for some of my mp3s :/

Now for the 256MB or less mp3 players, the ones I don't want but might end up getting because their cheaper :/

I'd go with an iPOD. I love those things; a friend of mine has one and I borrow it for when I have to go to a seminar and its awesome. But that's the only one I've used so its a pretty biased opinion.

Get an iRiver. MUCH better, IMO, than an iPod. I have tried both, and the P2P Wise Man picks the iRiver. It costs a hefty penny, about $400 for 40GB, but if you have it, it is WELL worth it.

No, I've tried one of those and I did not like it, not only that, the software was rendered incompatible with my sister's system and would not play my MP3's properly. And 400 bucks US is around 600 CAD (since I live in Quebec and all, french bastard and their taxes). Not to mention their USB 2.0 only, so my computer - nope.

Edit: They play OGG files, which is a plus to me. But yeah 2.0 only. Not going to work on my computer.

If anybody cares. I'm thinking this

because I have firewire(like 3 ports) on my computer. If anyone has any other suggestions that work on Firewire or USB 1.0? Edit and ships to Canada in 1 or 2 business days.

People who recommend the iPod probably only know of maybe two other MP3 players, Creative's Zen and the iRiver.

Rio makes an awesome 20GB player, the Karma. It plays pretty much anything except for songs in AAC format (which means no iTunes compatibility. Apple is reluctant to open that spec to other companies.).

check it out at rioaudio.com They've also got other, smaller players available. have a look.

$550? Thats flocking rediculous rich be'otch! I dont even really listen to music anymore. I just listen to whatevers on the radio, but thats only if im in the car or doing something. I say go for the cheapest one. It may not be much but it's cheap and you can buy good headphones with the extra cash. No body really need to carry around 2000 songs with them, the batteries will run out before you hit the 200th song.

Do conversions next time.

Why in God's name would you pay so much for an mp3 player?! The most I've spent is $150 on a 256psa because I run. Spend $400 on a mp3 keg for your car.

I have a large collection of music, thats why, I want to put full albums on it. So I have a selection on what to play. I get sick of listening to a few songs pretty quick if i'm on a trip, be it 15 minutes or 12 hours.

well I've never had a dedicated mp3 player. but if you want cheap get a discman with mp3 playback. they are as low as 50 bucks USD and a cd holds hella mp3s. I've got 5 full albums on one cd. the only downside is burning cds. instead of on the fly replacement of music. but I find 3 or 4 cds with 4 to 6 albums on each one is more then enough to get you through any trip. oh and my batteries last about 40 hours on average. not bad IMO.

I have an MP3 enabled CD player. I got mine for 49.99 USD when I was in the states last year. And it recently died on me (as in batteries still work, but the player it self only plays for 45 minutes, which is utter crap and now a waste of money. An mp3 player would be a good investment to me because it also doubles as a portable hard drive.

Hands down, the iPod is the best due to the ease of use for it. You don't have to fuddle with a lot of software and converting stuff like the other MP3 players. (you can check out forums of people frustrated with getting songs onto other brands' players on the web) iPod's own interface is better than the rest as well.

What's a good MP3 player I can get for about 50 dollars?

Or a little more, my dad works at Best Buy. (Killer discount!!!)

I recall hearing something of an open-source firmware for Archos Jukebox players. Something to look into if you're an OSS kinda person.

I'm going to once again discourage the purchase of an iPod, primarily because I am vehemently disgusted with people who recommend a product based on how "stylish" it's appearance is. That, and good luck getting more than 6 hours of playback out of the thing using files of reasonable quality.

My Rio Karma plays MP3s, FLACs, OGGs, AIFFs, WAVs (why you'd put WAVs and AIFFs on an MP3 player is something I don't understand. still, the support that is there is good). It's small, fits in one hand, has an incredibly nice display. It sorts files not based on directory heirarchies, but instead by using a database of ID3 tag info. Is this good? Indeed it is! You can select Play Music and then Artist (for a list of artists, and then a list of the selected artists albums) or select Album or Genre or Year. Best of all is the Rio DJ. It'll generate playlists for you based on least-listened to, most-listened to, recently-added, etc.

Did I mention the 5-band graphical Equalizer with several presets, and room for 3 customized settings?

I've handled an iPod before, and it can't touch these features. Big wheel? no thanks, I'll use the clitoral control mechanism on my Karma.

And now, a poem...

I don't like your iPod, Steve Jobs.

Nor do I like you and your trendy snobs.

I would not take your iPods by the box.

I'd rather smash them, with some rocks.

I would not take your iPod along for a jog

For I require a player that supports OGG.

I would not take them with matching earbuds

A short battery life makes them worthless duds.

I would not listen to your iPod here or there

I will not listen your iPod anywhere.

I won't take your iPod-mini as gift for another

Especially with those homoerotic pastel colors.

I loathe your iPod, Steve Jobs;

It, you, and your legion of snobs.
