Inky Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 before my ps 2 died (I doubt it was cuz of the swapdiscs) I used swapmagic and a flip top. worked fine but swapping gets old fast lol. i didn't think the fliptop was ugly I primered and painted mine white. it looked kick a$$. I got mine from www.flip-top.com can't remember the price but it was around 50 bucks. I installed it my self, it's really easy. a friend of mine just took the top off his ps2 and used the swapmagic discs like that. he hasn't had any problems for like a year. you can make your own slidecard if you don't wanna mess with the case. I can't really comment on slidecards cuz I've never used one.
Prican25 Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Theres no difference from using a slide card. My friend destroyed his PS2 from using that little piece of plastic. EDIT: Fliptop covers are cool looking. Mine has a big Z on top of it. well i guess your friend isn't that smart cuz theres no way in hell sony can tell that you jammed a card/plastic knife in there or for them to deny you of service if you haven't broken the seal in the back of the ps2 (pull it off and it says void all over the damn thing). those fliptops come in a bunch of colors and the one that was shown in a pic in this topic is proly the most decent looking one but i don't like that huge Z either
StriderSkorpion Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Yeah, the slide is just the knife trick. The plus to it is that you won't screw up hitting the wrong stuff. I don't know how big of an issue it is. I'm not advocating the slide card, as I'd rather use a mod-chip, but I'm just saying, it's an option for those who don't want to void the warranty. The slide card is for those too afraid they'd screw something up or too lazy to bother with making sure they trigger it right.
Wizard Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 I hear the card is rather sloppy and risk into damaging into the PS2 cdtray.
StriderSkorpion Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 As I said before, I've never tried it. I don't know if it's really all that "sloppy." The pictures of it seem to show that it's pretty well made. You just have to remove the screw for the front, stick the card in, and hook the part you need to pull out. If it sucks, ah well, I'm not advocating as I said earlier. Ultimately, you get choose what you wanna do. Me, I'm gonna get a mod-chip (probably a Magic 3 or 5).
Mi|enko Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 Just thought I'd throw in that to be able to play 80 minute disks utitlizing a swap method, you'll also have to purchase breaker pro. Alot of the DVD games that are shared over the net have the movies cut out and our considered "rips". And most rips nowadays, are around 800 meg bin files, so you won't be able to just use the swap magic disks for these. That's where breaker pro comes in. You're better off just gettin' a DMS3 and havin' somebody else install it for you. Granted, it costs more, but it's so much easier, and backups boot like originals. Screw the swap method. BTW, about the dvds that are ripped to CD size, they'll tear your laser up. You're better off downloading whole DVDr's.
Sybarite Paladin AxL Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 'm new to PS1/2 gaming and emulation, so this is what I don't getI just remembered that there are PlayStations with PAL and with NTSC; here in Eastern Europe there are those with PAL;My friend lend me his PSOne wich is a PAL one, another guy will give me some Final Fantasies but they are NTSC versions; My question: what can I use 2 make them work for the PAL version, a Special Boot Disk or a Mod Chip?Will the Mod Chip damage the small PSOne over time?And after I burn ISOs on normal CDs why can't I play them on a PSOne?Can I play them using a Boot Disk?

But if you have a PS2, you can use the dms chip and the new bios will for a pal game to be played in NTSC mode.
Sybarite Paladin AxL Posted May 5, 2004 Posted May 5, 2004 I have PSOne but I'm planning on a PS2 but dunno where 2 buy the dmschip;
Cominus Posted May 15, 2004 Posted May 15, 2004 Will the PS2 read all kinds of DVDs and CDrs? Is it like the xbox where it has different drives and they only read certain one or they read them all?
