Captain FuKu Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 Ah, Hammer, they're definitely classics of the genre. Unfortunately, I've lived a sheltered life and have yet to see very many (possibly any) of there films. On a side note, I really wish Bram Stoker's estate didn't sue the makers of the silent film Nosferatu. Has anybody seen the fictional movie based on the making of the film? It was William Defoe as the vampire and John Malkovich (if I'm not mistaken) as the director. I think it also has the main character from Princess Bride and Robin Hood Men in Tights.I saw that movie. I think it was called "Shadow of the Vampire." Not scary, but still a good movie.
Gryph Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 So, does that mean you're a fan of Full Moon or (possibly) Troma? I don't know about Troma, but Full Moon has a huge library of horror movies. Out of them, I like the Puppet Master series (not all of them since some are hokey like Retro Puppet Master) and the Howling series (I believe that's the name). What's weird is Full Moon ripped itself off with some Puppet Master clone. I can't remeber the name, but it was lame (and funny because of that).I like Troma's Cannibal: The Musical. That was pretty funny.
StriderSkorpion Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 Cheesy humor is another one of Troma's fine points. I didn't think the Shadows of the Vampire movie was scary either, but I did think it was interesting. I especially liked William Defoe's (sp?) character because he was pretty disturbing. Like the scene where he's in the sewer and he starts sucking the blood of a bat or rat (not sure which).
Diso Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 Horror movies are sometimes predictable but they're still fun to watch. I don't watch horror movies that much though
StriderSkorpion Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Yeah, especially movies that have become a series (i.e. Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th series). I still like them even though they no longer scare me. Sometimes I kinda like it when horror movies parody themselves or are just so bad &/or cheesy they're funny.
Smilee Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 My Favorites are the Night of The Living Dead Series. I thought the Thing was pretty cool and action oriented, not scary. The Ring is kinda scary, but Ringu and Ringu 2 were scarier.
StriderSkorpion Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Has any of you who like John Carpenter's The Thing seen The Thing from Outer Space? It's the original black and white movie that The Thing is based on. It's not a bad movie for its time, but I didn't think it was scary (could've been for its time, dunno). I like The Thing a lot better, though. BTW, is the game any good? I'm interested in playing it too see if its any good myself.
Captain FuKu Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 I don't see why a movie should be labeled "horror" if it's humurous and/or cheezy. I have seen very little in terms of true horror movies. I think I get scared more with playing a survival horror than watching most horror movies nowadays. The Thing? I haven't seen it. But as for the game, I'm guessing it's crappy. My recommendation is that you should rent it first -- if possible.
StriderSkorpion Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 (edited) I don't know why it would neccessarily be crappy. It was done by Konami, so I don't think it'd be crappy (not that Konami hasn't done crappy games). Those movies that are funny/cheesy usually TRY to be scary, but sometimes fail miserably. I can't say that any survival horror game has been that scary to me, but they usually get my adrenaline (sp?) if they're any good. Edited April 7, 2004 by StriderSkorpion

It's just that games based on movies have a tendency to be crappy, so...yeah, I could be wrong. But like I said, rent first, if possible. Yeah, survival horrors may not always be scary, but it often has its moments when it gets the adrenaline (sp?...yeah, not sure on the spelling either. lol) going, and most horror movies can't even do that for me. So, I take survival horror over a so-called "horror" movie.
Gryph Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 The scariest movie, hands down, is Plan 9 From Outer Space. My eyes were closed for almost half the movie because it was so "scary."
StriderSkorpion Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 On a side note, K Man, weren't Jerry and George going to see it one episode of Seinfield?
Gryph Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 On a side note, K Man, weren't Jerry and George going to see it one episode of Seinfield?Yes, twice actually. The first time in "The Chinese Restaurant" (Ep. 16) and then in "The Postponement (Ep. 112).
StriderSkorpion Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 (edited) I remember those episodes. I didn't realise in the Chinese restaurant episode that the movie they were seeing was Plan 9. I didn't even know they mentioned the movie's title. You live, you learn a little more about TV. Edited April 7, 2004 by StriderSkorpion

I like some shows too, but that doesn't make me want to memorize every single episode number and synopsis. Edited April 7, 2004 by Agozer
