We have only once done it back when we were starting the emulation scene. We have done a lot of research and here are the percentages based on opinion... 75% Rom Sites Display a TOP50 Link or Are Affiliated25% Emulator Sites Display a TOP50 Link or Are Affiliated Now of days however TOP50 links are filled with hentai (porno anime ads). People go to these sites and expect some roms or emulators and click through these "TOP50 Stoppers" that you first have to vote for the site then download the rom. Then what? The rom download link is dead. This happened to us about 85% of the time. Why do websites do this? Quite frankly, we can't figure it out. They are not making any money by it, we guess it's just their way of making their site popular. But for what? Broken download links? We think that only the actual sites who do this TOP50 stuff can answer this. Sometimes though, the downloads links did work, however many times the links were leeched off of other sites which you could tell from the address it was coming from in the download box. These sites are disgracing the emulation scene. It makes all emulation sites look illegal or are filled with porno or hentai (anime porn) ads. This substantially decreases the amount of emulation users. The Verdict? TOP50 stuff must go! Emulation sites have to stop using it to gain more users to their site. Instead they can try regular website affiliation by emailing the website owner. ..........1Emulation and it's staff still respect these sites, this article was based on opinion and was not made to insult or disregard sites using TOP50, BestRomSites, or something to that extent to advertise their sites........... Prican25 Posted March 14, 2004 Share Posted March 14, 2004 i agree, most of those sites are getting worse. i was at a site recently just as gamecop described it with hentai ads and the top 50/100 site ads and in order for you to get what you want you need to vote on 3-4 sites and then hope you could get the rom after typing in the numbers or so . others sites want you to pay them for a dump site which will allow you to get roms faster then to wait in a queue and there was one site i ran into which claimed it has roms but you need to make a donation to the site in order to get the roms. i can understand when sites need to pay bills so they throw an ad here and there but this is getting ridiculus. And in walked my mother. It was quite an embarassing scene. And I got in trouble. It sucked. I have a personal hatred towards those things. Amen to ya GameCop. You should arrest those flockers. Since you are a cop and all But if a site ever asks me to vote for something, I exit. I'll wait an extra week or so to locate that file on IRC or P2P but I'm not giving them my support. Inky Posted March 14, 2004 Share Posted March 14, 2004 yeah I never go to any top 50 list for anything. always sucks and usually kills my connections with pop-up, and pop-under ads. and god forbid my wife or son should walk by when some disgusting hentei pop-up loop gets started on my screen. thats something I'll never get, rom sites which are frequented by kids full of porn. it's irrisponsable on the site admins part imho.
