veristic Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 Whats so funny about button mashing....its stupid and anyone who just mashes away at the buttons doesn't deserve to play fighting games Because Tekken 4 isn't button mashing, but then again u can button mash in ANY 3D fighter n do damage. Well most of the people who I have seen play Tekken keep on mashing the punch button then the kick button and they call that a combo...That's cuz they suck.
Chaotica Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 I would play it, don't know if I would like it, I have always liked 2d fighters much better. Yes, I think Tekken games are susceptible to button mashing, and that is their major, major weakness. I also thought Tekken 4 was crap. Very pretty, but crap. I think Tekken Tag Tournament was by far the best. It was fast, the fights took a while to fight out (because of the tag team structure), and really cool combos were possible. It's a great game, as long as you don't button mash, or play against a button masher!!! Tekken 4, on the other hand, has really boring fighting mechanics - where have all the lovely combos gone? The game is more poke n' prod, which sucks. Also, it is hard to do combos on some levels because of the obstructions. I never got into VF...because the game just wasn't visceral enough. Lame excuse I know, but when you land a punch on your opponent, it doesn't look visceral enough, or heavy enough...instead of hitting a flesh and blood opponent, it feels like you are hitting a plastic dummy. It just doesn't feel *intense.* Other fighting games feel intense. You can really feel the pain when you hit someone in Tekken, or (uber example), Mortal Kombat. VF doesn't have that. Neither does DOA. DOA just has attractive floppies. Soul Calibur is really cool. All this is just my twisted opinion, BTW.
Wizard Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 Virutal Fighter 4 is not a button masher as I thought. It actually need skill. DoA 3 are just too damn technical, so just mash. Tekken, well, its Tekken. I never button mashed in that game. Never did. Just looked at the controls.
Agozer Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 (edited) Virtua Fighter has always been a very technical fighting game. There are even SOECIAL VF FAQs for Tekken players on GameFAQs. Edited March 2, 2004 by Agozer
ForceX Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 Virtua Fighter 4 Evo is my favourite fighting game ever....well its behind SF2
Fatal Rose Posted March 3, 2004 Author Posted March 3, 2004 And I'm not into real worlds martial arts because I can't do any of it in real life. So I don't feel any reason to play a fighting game that features it. And quite frankly, while one of those characters is doing some kata, I'll just burn them with a Power Geyser or electrocute them with a Raijin Ken. But hey, that's just me and I'm a moron so what can you really say about my opinions? Nothing much...except that they're stupid. Ok, back to jerking off (writing a Physics lab report about Wheatstone bridges and Kirchoff's law.)why can't you do any real martial arts in real life?

Because I'm mildly anemic so I lack some iron in my hemoglobin. Any strenous activity drains me very quickly. Well I used to be anemic, but I think it was because I was just iron deficient so after taking iron pills for a while, I got back to normal. But by then I stopped caring about martial arts. I had to quit karate because of that. The only sport I play now is tennis and I never run on the court

Perhaps. Tai Chi just looks so damn boring. As I said earlier, I'd rather be jerking off. And right now I don't have any time to invest in martial arts classes; too much damn school work. The only exercise I ever get now is that 1 hour of tennis I play over the weekend. I always wanted to learn Ninjitsu. I even have the Stephen F. Hayes book but it's useless.
Fatal Rose Posted March 3, 2004 Author Posted March 3, 2004 If you ever have a chance to start training again you should train in a mixed martial art school. Traditional martial arts are just so out dated and just not as useful anymore. Innless of course you train in traditional martial arts and learn how to use you techniques against other arts by sparring with them.
arjay Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 virtua fighter vs. 'takken'huh? thats the name of the rom, the people who made the game decided to call it 'takken'. in my experience, its much harder to beat experts at virtua fighter. even the best tekken players will get beat by button mashers. ive wasted many quarters cause some kid decided to just press kicks while using eddy gordo. not fair.

Shibathedog Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 Tekken 4 you mean? or Tekken 1? Im assuming you mean the newest Tekken vs the newest Virua Fighter, Im going to say Virtua fighter, why? because Tekken is SOOOOO SLOW it drives me nuts, slowest fighting game ive ever played Tekken 3 was sweet though, better than 4 i think, it wasnt as slow.
