Hard Core Rikki Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Unrelated story? Ruined character backgrounds? Any resemblance to the actual franchise is purely coincidental? Yup, sounds legit to me. And no, I'm not sarcastic - sadly that's the way video games based movies are made nowdays...That. At least it won't be as bad as the upcoming King of Fighter movie. These attempts at pugilist hollywood flicks ought to be reserved for Hongkong studios.
Wizard Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 MK3 film is going to be a reboot. Ed Boon confirmed months ago that MK9 game will also be a reboot to the franchise. Lastly, those actors in the Rebirth short are B-Listers, not just any B-listers, but GOOD b-listers. JERI RYAN!
Inky Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 the chick playing sonya said in an interview somewhere. (i think i read it on joystiq) that it is just a test to try and get funding.
veristic Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Should be funded imo. The unfortunate truth is you can't make modern-day martial arts films that involves characters like this and expect it to be A-list because getting the right actors who can also perform the fight scenes so well are few and far between.
Shoma Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Now, if this was a fan-made joke, it was awesome... like Street Fighter Legacy...NO! Whether this was fna made or not I would not want to see it.Now if StreetFighter legacy became a real movie, based of da trailer, i would go see it! Also just wann forward these quotes: "What's next? Will Raiden simply be a former weatherman gone mad, who straps a beefed-up taser on his back and "lightnings" his opponents to death? Seriously"------------ "In the name of realism, will Sub-Zero be using Mr. Freeze-type equipment or will he just throw ice cubes?"------------ "The entire thing looks tacky, and the grounded approach makes the suspension of disbelief much more difficult. By giving "reasons" behind the characters, more questions are asked instead. How does a person see with eyes that developed "inside out"? How does the only person who manages to survive a massive birth-defect go on to not only be a serial killer, but one with a penchant for eating heads? I can grant the insanity and blade grafting, but what part of the surgeon's psychosis makes him hop about like a wild animal? And how can a human surgeon decapitate anyone with forearm grafted blades? The blades would need to be reinforced or supported all the way up his arm. Or he would need superhuman strength. Like the real Baraka."-------------- Um thats about it, I'm gonna go and watch da first 2, man.... Why is everybody so horny for realism in super hero/videogame movies!?!?!?!?
Shoma Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I'm gonna watch it when it comes out.Guess you watched Street fighter the Chunli movie as well.I hope u enjoy ur disappointment sir.
KyokugenKiss Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 rumor has it the next MK game is going back to its 2d origins? FUCK YEA!!!
O-Fear Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 (edited) ^Uhh.. were you sleeping for the past week?http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6265855/morta...topslot;title;5 Edited June 17, 2010 by O-Fear
Shoma Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Stories dont make sense... That's the problem, I could forgive the crappy new background(barely) but if the story replacing is even more dumber, sigh. Why does being born with defects push you to wanan eat heads? You suck as a doctor, so u just start killing pple and implanting blades on you? THen y are you fighting like Tarzan? OH and the evil Scorpion is now the protagonist? Hopefully not... ANd you can relate back to the previous posts on the possible nonsense that may be developed with the stories of the other characters. Majority of the cool attacks are in fact supernatural moves, so they just made it much harder for themselves and they my fail becuz of the extra load they put on the writers. WE coulda just build upon the little MK(which isnt THAT LITTLE, i mean plz guys..) if you know your full MK history, up until MK3 they had enough story to build a movie on. Did you fall in love with the teleporting, skeleton flaming, spear coming out of his friggin hand, deep voiced iconic phrase, monster? Or..... the blind assassin(not sure if he's blind)? Not flaming but just throwing my gripes. Sigh....I may still watch too-_-..

I think its more enjoyable to see the game's atmosphere put into the movie so of course we should see teleporting, fireballs, freezing. When they try to put the game elements and portray them as realistic, it usually ends up pretty bad. Example of this would be Street fighter: Legend of Chun Li. I mean, the scene where they made her do her spinning bird kick almost prompted me to stopped watching just because of how bad the scene itself was, and they wanted to incorporate her moves into the movie. To be honest, I couldn't really tell realism in the martial arts if they incorporated it into the next mortal kombat. Personally, I would just want to see the fatalities and stuff which is the most likely reason imo people play this game, which is to brutalize/humiliate their opponent after a fight. But hey, if we're going for realism, if someone can perform Guile's upside-down in mid air kick for me, that'll be great.
