gavin19 Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Got my 360 (again) earlier with Halo 3 (came with it for free) and I grabbed Oblivion again too. Opted for a Premium as they were brand new stock with an HDMI port. So I can keep my Xbox1 running through component at the same time. The guy in the shop swore it came packaged with an HDMI cable, but there was none supplied, so I'll have to get one tomorrow. Can't wait for GTA now, watched the IGN video review, looked mighty impressive.
fumanchu Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 arcade and premium dont come packed with an hdmi cable, their only £12.99 from game.
BlackKnight Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 BlackKnight: you say the same for Crysis as well, I think you might need to get your eyes check. As for GTA:IV, the game is gorgeous on 720p mode in HDTV. The draw distance is kinda disappointing (a huge step improvement from the GTA:SA, but not by much), it's not as far as you can imagine but it's reasonable to fit such a huge city with so much things in details around. For Crysis I said it didn't look good enough to justify the hardware it required. GTA4 doesn't look good enough for the hardware its running. I absolutely understand its because of how big the city is, all the AI things going on the same time, and all the rendering / memory issues associated with that. Still, they detract from how good it looks in the end. When I look at Niko he is certainly not the best-looking character I've ever seen. When I get in a car its like a toned down version of Burnout Paradise's looks. That said, I don't get how the graphics get praised so unilaterally.
L.S.D Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Did X360 version let you install into the HDD? If they do, I still hjave not found that option. Man, I was driving at 160km/h when I crash into the lamp post. Niko was thrown OUT from the car through the front window. Ouch.
Devia Eleven Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 The game gets a 9.8 from gametrailers. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33327.html

In a vain attempt to stave off GTA 4 can't-wait-til-tuesday blues, I was reading through as many reviews as I could get my hands on. I stumbled on this in one review, related to the HDD queries. When popping the disc into the PS3 for the first time, you’ll have a brief installation. Don’t worry, it only takes ten minutes or so, and there’s a pleasant bit of GTA history trivia to keep you occupied. So, unlike with Devil May Cry, you’ll be able to eat your sandwich prior to playing the game. On the 360, this installation is optional if you have a hard drive. I advise to proceed with installation—it reduces the already minimal frame rate issues on the 360

I have 110GB of HDD space unused.

Try the Clear Cache code : X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, XIt will erase any other game updates too, optional codec update etc, but it may trigger the install? Edited April 28, 2008 by gavin19

Kotaku content states that the X360 version has no HDD install, not even as an option. The PS3 has a 3.4gig mandatory install which apparently reduces pop-in. The review states that although the 360 version looks slightly better and has smoother framerate, the PS3 version is almost entirely devoid of pop-in (assuming due to the HDD install). Strange why it wasn't offered as an option to Xbox users? Comparison feature here
L.S.D Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Wow, nice to know not much difference for both version. I think only trained eyes will notice the difference between the PS3 version and X360 graphically.
Shibathedog Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 pop in is when your playing a game and say your walking foward, and suddenly buildings and things in the distance appear out of nowhere as if they are appearing as they are loading. Not to change the subject back or anything, but about that physics engine, it looks pretty amazing. Remember how terrible it was in saints row? As soon as someone died they instantly became a flimsy....thing. It was just goofy looking. I'm pretty happy it didn't end up like that.
