Gryph Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Using a Blow dryer and an exacto knife, you heat the sticker serial with the dryer then take it off delicately with the exacto knife, open up the box, hack away, then carefully place the sticker back on, your "warrenty" isn't voided.Interesting. thx
Devia Eleven Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Can't they somehow identify a modded system once they open it up?
Inky Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Can't they somehow identify a modded system once they open it up?it looks exactly the same, you are just flashing the dvd drive. now opening the case is a whole other matter, sticker or not I damn near destroyed the back of my case trying to get it open the first time
Gryph Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 So if the box Red Rings you're flocked? I wouldn't be so wary but these machines seem to be unreliable pieces of crap.
Inky Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 So if the box Red Rings you're flocked? I wouldn't be so wary but these machines seem to be unreliable pieces of crap.easy fix gryph. a few pennies and some electrical tape and you are back in business.
Gryph Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I see. Can you describe what the pennies and electrical tape do? What's this towel trick I've heard about?
JKKDARK Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 How does this work with bootleggs and stuff? Does it need a mod chip? Is there a way to download games and then transfer them?Don't get a modchip, you can't play online with a modchip.
Devia Eleven Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Some Xboxes get RRoD, because of overheating. This can be fixed one way, with telling the fan to run at 12V, this way the Xbox gets more air, although it will be very noisy.
Inky Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I see. Can you describe what the pennies and electrical tape do? What's this towel trick I've heard about?the motherboard is not supported well, when the box gets hot it causes the motherboard to sag, which damages the solders on the CPU/GPU. over time causing the red rings of death. the towel trick overheats the box and remelts the solders. Not recommended but it will do in a pinch, the penny fix adds support to the board not allowing it to flex. there is another fix called xclamp that does the same thing as well but cost some money getting parts from the hardware store. My system RRoDed almost a year ago now, I did the penny fix and have had zero problems with it since. here's a link to the full tut on X-S: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=606431
Gryph Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I think I'll hold off on getting an XBOX till later once the economy improves. I don't want to make any major purchases now if I can avoid it.
Mag Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 well least I'm one of the lucky ones, my 360 is an old unit model that comes with the first Hitachi drive (Hitachi 47d me thinks) and never had RROD or any problems yet. Had it for moar than a few years.
Wizard Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Word, my 360 is also a launch model that I now I hooked up to the net and actually used it. Other times my friends would use it and log on with their accounts.
Smilee Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Mine just broke down for the second time. Doesn't really matter as I'm almost always busy with class, but it still kinda sucks.

Sybarite Paladin AxL Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 OK, I'm having the same question as Cominus. I want to know how I can play backups both off and online and what how I should go about that without opening it or voiding the warranty.
